Formula One: 2016 Season News and Discussion Thread

Already with news out of Haas F1. Rumors of yellow livery coming.

Report: Haas F1 Team to have yellow livery
Haas F1 Team looks set to use a yellow livery in Formula One next year.

In recent days, the new American team has been practicing pit stops at its factory with a black-liveried show car.

But La Gazzetta dello Sport, the authoritative Italian source, says the actual race livery next year will be yellow, like the Ferrari logo.

Owner Gene Haas, however, rejected claims the team is little more than a Ferrari 'B team'.

No caution here: Gallery of yellow F1 cars

"I keep getting asked that and my answer is unequivocal: no," Haas said. "Haas has an unique image and we will have our own way of working, even if Ferrari is an important technical partner."

Team boss Guenther Steiner played down suggestions Haas is skirting too close to the regulations, after Mercedes recently queried the close relationship between the new team and Ferrari.

"We are only doing what is permitted by the regulations," Steiner insisted.

...AND I SCREWED UP THE TITLE. AGAIN

Rumours abound that Alfra Romeo is looking at returning in 2017. Apparently Chrysler has 52 billion set aside for brand development and F1 is thought to be an avenue they will pursue.

Of all the FCA brands, Alfa is certainly the most appropriate for F1, but I can't imagine FCA doing this.

They need to not tease us with the thought of 24 cars on the grid in 2017. It is cruel.

I sort of lost momentum on the last 5 or 6 races of 2015 - still have 4 to watch on my DVR. I'm looking forward to 2016 though.

I'm hoping that McLaren Honda can start seeing some improvements and I'm really rooting for the new plucky underdog from Haas. Especially with my underdog favorite Grosjean on board.

So I'm ghetto-subbed for 2016 chatter...

Source: F1 may need new venue after COTA suffers storm damage | KXAN.com

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN/AP) — More doubts about whether or not Formula 1 will take place in Austin next year. The future of the struggling U.S. Grand Prix was thrown into further doubt Wednesday when the 2016 Formula One calendar listed the race as “subject to agreement” with the promoter.

Officials at the Circuit of the Americas have said they are financially strapped after storms wiped out much of the 2015 race weekend and by news the Texas governor’s office is cutting public funding by about 20 percent.

The 2016 race calendar released by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council still has the race scheduled for Oct. 23 but with an asterisk.

“The USA’s slot remains provisional,” the FIA said.

Track officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The impression here is it's still happening. If it does happen in 2016, the attendance will be telling.

And it only took Renault 6 months to negotiate to that price.

Just imagine if he had another 6 months. It was still a good deal for Genii at the end though, as having a small % of Renault F1 is better than having 100% of bankrupt F1.

Short version, Prost bought Ligier team from Flavio, hired John Barnard, got heavy unreliable Peugeot motors, always searching for sponsorship, never could sort out the chassis's due to lack of funds, no success, alot of bills and unpaid employees, end of team.

Maldonado's place at Renault at risk due to oil money drying up? He will be missed if he's not on the grid next year.

Who will be the new favorite target of complaints?

Red Bull irrelevant marketing at its finest. I recall them doing something similar on a frozen pond a few years ago.

Apparently, Red Bull never got permission to blast its Formula 1 car up the Austrian ski slope. Oops.

$32,000 fine? Red Bull most likely knew about that and figured it was probably easier to just pay the fine than get bogged down in the red tape.

At least the car didn't trigger an avalanche.

Agree. $32K to the Red Bull team is almost like nothing to them, when compared to the hundreds of million dollar in annual operation budget.

$32,000 is a cheap price for some advertising. Not to mention now that it has made the news because of the fine even more people than before are probably going to see the video. Honestly, wonder if they wanted the fine for some more publicity.
