I am hereby a devoted Lotus fan !

Carmen Jorda. Lotus designated development driver. She has never won a race in her career, but seriously who cares?

They cause high blood pressure and irregular heart rhythms in kids. The point being that in my opinion, your high and mighty stance on a former cigarette executive is rather ridiculous in light of Red Bull's presence as a team vs. Arrivabene as a principal.

that's not the tone of the interview I read from a different site: he said he was happy to be in Haas, that Renault in effect, waited too long to decide to buy Lotus and that having the Haas-Ferrari connection which may open the door to a ride in the Red cars was very enticing. He'd best not start trash-talking Haas at this stage, WTF!

That article doesn't sound like having second thoughts. It's simply Grosjean saying things as he exits to not burn any bridges.

So, Mercedes F1 lost $117 million for the privilege of dominating the championship. I'm sure it's just a drop in Daimler's overall budget, but how can this be sustainable in the long run?

further explanation:
Mercedes lost millions as it dominantly won last year’s world championships.

Writing in the Swiss newspaper Blick, the veteran F1 journalist Roger Benoit says the German carmaker spent $360 million on its grand prix venture in 2014. But Bild am Sonntag, the major German Sunday newspaper, says that when Mercedes secures the 2015 constructors’ cup – perhaps as soon as this weekend – it will unlock as much as $157 million in official ‘Bernie’ prize money.

A further $100 million is reportedly raised by Mercedes each season through sponsorship, including deals with Petronas, Hugo Boss and Blackberry. Mercedes’ actual annual cost of being in F1 is therefore “only” $86 million, Bild am Sonntag reported. Blick’s Benoit, meanwhile, says the team’s 2014 loss totalled $117m, which is “about the budget of Sauber or Force India, who have filed a complaint with the EU” about the unfair distribution of income.

According to Bild, experts calculate the true value of Mercedes’ loss at the equivalent of a $2.6 billion spend in global advertising. So after revealing Mercedes’ accounts last month and showing further bonus payments, F1 business journalist Christian Sylt concludes in Forbes: “It often seems like everything has a price in F1 but when it comes to the benefit Mercedes gains from success on-track it really is priceless.”

Yeah ok, 117 million loss... but the advertising works. One of my local dealers here can't keep the CLA, C and E class in their lot. As soon as they unload from the truck they are sold! And these aren't $30k cars! More like $50k and a lot higher.

It is news. Reason is, it is as bullshit as F1 itself. F1 use to be a motor sport. Now I don't know what it is. The closest I can think of is: Festival of Insecurities.

OK, sorry. But c'mon now, its funny.

The real news is Bernie selling out to Qatar big money. I have serious doubts that this move will add any credibility to F1. Its not like they are big on business ethics in that part of the world... But money is hard to find these days and they appear to have lots of it. I can only hope the US partner in the deal (Stephen Ross and his money) puts some sense and practicality back into F1.

I can't imagine being an engine manufacturer in F1. Year 1-we are going to have a new engine formula in 2 years, get on it; Year 3-now that you have engines built, you can only test them on a limited basis; Year 4-your engine sucks but too bad, the architecture was set in stone last year so you'll have to spend tokens; Year 5-we are thinking of going to N/A V-8's or V-10's.

I doubt anyone would go back to N/A, even though that would be welcomed by real car fans.

Most, if not all, have invested heavily in kinetic energy recovery systems. Not for the sport but for some major defense contracts up for grabs! Some, like Williams, have bet the farm on that tech. Sadly the investments are so high... there is no turning back. So the best they can do is to tune the exhausts to make the F1 cars loud again!

James Allen wrote a nice piece about the power plant manufacturers' power nowadays: What the current engine stand off tells us about the power of manufacturers in F1 // F1 News // James Allen on F1 ? The official James Allen website on F1

You have to admit RBR could not have done things more spectacularly wrong than they did by divorcing Renault and then looking for a new (necessary) partner. Ferrari have even denied they would supply RBR with a year old PU due to expected competition from such a strong team. Mateschitz needs to take his head out of his ass.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! that was close!

BTW, the Force India team should go buy some lottery tickets LOL. But then again, seriously, Kimi had nothing to lose. I am sure he spent half the race pissed off after they told him on the radio to let Seb pass him.

I've built 1/43 scale metal models of 2 Williams (FW14B, FW13) and one MP4-7. I've always been partial to the Williams liveries over the years, except for the Winfield years.

I would really like to see this happen just for the fact of getting the extra data for next year in hopes Ferrari could really take it to Mercedes.

Put it in Kimi's car, then again, I don't think there are any races left where starting position is crucial.

Pretty cool website with side view pics of many F1 cars and teams, throughout the years. Have to go through a bunch of them but really neat someone organized this.

The changes from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's are really interesting.

^ He must be a big older Volvo fan, like yours truly. Some nice pics. Thanks!

Now, get this... the proposal for Red Bull is to go back to the 2013 v8 with some modifications to level the field. Roll your eyes here.

Also, Bernie the big hassler, says he wants 21 races and FIA says 20. Oh well, they are setting someone up to pay more to make it to the 20, and make the old geezer look good too Wonder what city they are pimping now? LOL!!

^^ I saw that this morning which of course negates Ferrari's ability to provide engines to RBR now because it doesn't have the dedicated manpower. Besides, Marchionne hasn't said "do it" yet.
