It seems Lauda is sorta a hired gun in F1 team management. AFAIK, Todt/Brawn/Bryne/Schumacher didn't use his input much.

I remember that bit but still, he should be at Ferrari. Oh well. At least no refueling in 2017:

So we have Mercedes - Mercedes - Williams - Williams. Lets see how Hamilton's launch control behaves... Pole position is on the left side, first turn is to the right. If that clutch isn't to his liking from 1st to 2nd gear, most likely Rosberg is going to get ahead, again. After that its all about tire changes and fuel management.

Honda/Mclaren... what a mess.

Hamilton has the older clutch while rosberg has the newer one. should be interesting. I see side by side racing in the first 3 corners

OK, nobody was expecting that start. Where did Massa find the grip? Took off almost like AWD.

Imagine Hamilton's shock seeing a Williams car fly by him during the start. Camera first on-board Lewis's car and then a shot from the Valtteri's car:

Of course you don't need to invite Lewis and Nico twice to a good party, once was enough!

great footage. I was shocked and saddened Williams didn't turn that into a podium position today, at least 1 if not 2 of them in the top 3.

Definitely was disappointed they couldn't pull it off. I think they should have let Bottas pass Massa as well cause he could have pulled out a lead.

Boltas was very unflappable in post race interview when directly asked that question. He kind of shrugged it off.

You can tell that Williams is still a tier 2 team at this moment. Both their race strategy and their pit stops are not at the level of Mercedes/Ferrari/Red Bull.

For those saying Williams should have had Massa move over...I think Massa would have ignored any team orders.

Judging by the huge grin on Lauda's face after the race (during a very short interview with SkySports), I think Mercedes is getting their money's worth having him around advising them on race strategy. The man has the talent and experience to change things on-the-fly and win races regardless how bad things may get.

Well, not all was lost for Mclaren/Honda with a P10 finish for Alonso. In my humble opinion... Alonso and Jenson can only go that long saying "politically correct" things during interviews before they totally blow up and speak up.

Agreed on 2nd tier bit and also on Massa bit. That would have just devastated him morally as that was all he did was move over for Schu while at Ferrari. Alonso at McLaren is such a colossal waste of talent.

Not 100% certain but I don't think Lauda does any race strategy at MB, even Paddy Lowe and Toto Wolff are fairly reserved to what their input is. Louis and Nico's race engineers (as per most teams) have final say with the driver inputs and race conditions.

Just witness the aftermath of the Monaco late pit debacle by Hamilton. Never once did Lauda's name come up.

Sad to see it be like that. If only he would have stayed at Ferrari one more year and had the car they have now.

Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey is working on a road car project with Aston Martin, amid discussions about a possible Formula 1 tie-up between the two companies. Autocar has revealed Newey started working on the project with Aston Martin at the beginning of 2015.

This follows last Saturday's revelation that talks between Aston Martin and Red Bull could lead to the F1 team bringing the Aston Martin name back into F1 for the first time since 1960 as a brand partner in a deal that would allow the team to use the dominant Mercedes engine.
The road car deal is a part of partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Technologies. Sources close to the deal stress the partnership does not automatically mean they will work together in F1, as Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technologies are separate entities.

Insiders describe the embryonic project as "ongoing, with no certainty of reaching fruition" but as well as using Aston Martin's road car engineering resources, Newey is understood to have worked with the firm's design team. The intention would be for the Aston to rival high-performance road cars such as the McLaren P1 GTR and Ferrari FXX K.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told Autocar last month that Newey was keen to pursue a road car project and that Red Bull involvement in the sector was highly likely.
"It's something that Adrian is keen to do as a legacy project," said Horner. "At the moment our focus is on being a Formula 1 constructor, but as we see more technology crossover with the road car market, it's something that will organically grow."

Horner refused to rule out the Aston/Mercedes link when questioned over the British Grand Prix weekend, while Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff said "the door is open" to such a deal. Mercedes customer F1 teams Force India and Williams have also emerged as potential candidates for an Aston deal.
Red Bull X1 becoming a reality?

James Vowles is the chief strategist of the team.

I did not know that. I'm guessing he learned from probably the F1 strategist ever Ross Brawn while he was at Honda/Brawn

^ fishing and travelling, never say never but I doubt he'll come back. He made a huge fortune selling the team to MB.

Yes he did, even after Honda bankrolled the new team through development of its 2009 car in March of that year. I read something like 100M pound profit when he sold his shares to MBZ.

and speaking of Honda, a thought occurred to me when I read the following article: even Renault was at a better point by this time last year with their power unit than Honda is. At least a Renault powered car had been on the podium and even won a race by now (Ricciardo-Canada).

Honda promises progress as McLaren tension mounts

I wonder how much of an effect the tightly wrapped body/space requirements has had on their development. I've read/or heard that mentioned more than once about making things difficult for Honda to cram everything in there etc.

Williams didn't flinch when MBZ pulled that in British GP and in fact, there was a little ribbing by Toto with Susie. FIA is fucking up F1 too much.

Don't know if this is a repost, Road to 2015 by UBS, an inside look at AMG. The size of the operation is overwhelming. The quote by Paddy Lowe their technical director, sums it up: "you are in a technology race against an unknown requirement".

Loved the picture his wife Susie tweeted after the race when they were going into a Indian restaurant after the race hand in hand showing no hard feelings.

+1, couldn't agree more about FIA f'ing up F1. Their turning it into a nanny motorsport with so much regulation and PC.

^ He studies the mistakes of the guy in front of him at the corners and exploits these mistakes at the right moment. Thats what a pro would do. I guess the rest of that field are amateurs?
