I'm not surprised by the outcome, but I was surprised by how it happened. I really didn't expect Nico to have those issues.

I was hoping Massa could steal first though. Hopefully McLaren and Williams are even more competitive next season.

Interesting fact made in the race, this is the first time since 1967 that Ferrari, Williams or a McLaren have not won a GP in the season.

Great race, changes my perspective about the crown being passed at it
+1, also thought Nico was a sportsman in his title loss than some of the other non-sporting things he did during the season (Monaco and Belgium)

that's what was being said 2 days ago-guess it came to fruition after all. Alonso gets the last laugh on a guy who knows next to nothing about F1 and has the balls to criticize him.

EDIT: upon further thought, Marchione must've wanted Montezemolo out so bad he would put a guy like Mattiacci in for the interim. That is incredible given Montezemolo's results with Ferrari. At least Mattiacci's replacement is on the F1 Commission and has a long-standing history of working in F1. Mattiacci on the other hand, goes from hero to zero as the Scuderia wishes him "success in his future endeavors" obviously meaning he has no future with Ferrari. Ciao!

I think Vettel's legacy will be made or broken with Ferrari, time will tell. Everything I've read about him and Alonso, show them to be proficient technocrat drivers. Why it didn't work with Alonso? I think comes down to the season testing ban and restricted testing schedule during the rest to develop the car.

Schumacher used to test 15-20Km a year at Ferrari, where they converted Enzo's old office into living quarters so he could walk back there and get a nights rest before starting up the next morning.

Vettel at Ferrari will be a interesting challenge for both parties. Ferrari has had so many come to Jesus events this year, they have to start looking inward to realize they F'ed up the great organization that Todt/Brawn/Bryne/Schumacher created and was very successful from 1997-2008.

Buttons result in the GP kept Mclaren ahead of Force India in the constructors title, meaning that they will get a larger share or the tv money payouts, something the bosses over there best be considering. Here's hoping we get to see JB in that Mclaren-Honda

More Ferrari/Mattiacci thoughts

1. Did Alonso lose his seat because of Mattiacci?

2. Vettel signed to drive for Ferrari under Mattiacci and will answer to Arrivabene.

3. Arrivabene knows a lot of the F1 politicos but he knows very little about F1.

4. Ferrari has 1 new driver; new team principal and a car that was a minute behind P1 at the last 2 race finishes.

5. Vettel coming to Ferrari isn't going to change a thing IMO until the Scuderia gets a chassis that works and an engine that gains 40+ hp without any development, i.e.-ain't gonna happen in 2015

I've been following Ferrari for a very long time and this is the worst I've seen it in my memory.

Probably not, I think it was mutual for Alonso and Luca both.

2. Vettel signed to drive for Ferrari under Mattiacci and will answer to Arrivabene.

Shouldn't matter much

3. Arrivabene knows a lot of the F1 politicos but he knows very little about F1.

Very true, Briatore is a classic example of succeeding without F1 knowledge by being a type-A brutish manager but leaving all technical stuff to Brawn/Bryne at Benneton.

4. Ferrari has 1 new driver; new team principal and a car that was a minute behind P1 at the last 2 race finishes.

Bryne is back at Ferrari, but perhaps he needs more time. He probably also needs a Brawn type to isolate him and his team from meddling Ferrari management and Italian press.

5. Vettel coming to Ferrari isn't going to change a thing IMO until the Scuderia gets a chassis that works and an engine that gains 40+ hp without any development, i.e.-ain't gonna happen in 2015

I was surprised how bad the Ferrari motor performance was, especially with a long legacy of successful motors. The chassis is also a surprise since I woulda thought with more mechanical grip that the new Bryne assisted chassis would have been better. Kimi complained that the chassis never felt comfortable to him not matter what settings he changed.

I've been following Ferrari for a very long time and this is the worst I've seen it in my memory.
Chef, I'm with you. Vettel to Ferrari 2015 is similar to Schumacher to Ferrari 1996. My comments above in blue.

BTW, MBZ did a special S/W program for Lewis's steering wheel multi-function display. When he won the race and championship, they triggered a message that caused this on his display.

No matter what happens at McLaren next year, I'll be disappointed. It would be great to see Button have one more year racing, especially with Alonso as his teammate, but Magnussen really earned his seat this year IMO. He deserves a career with McLaren, not just one year at F1.

I don't really see how Kmag earned anything this year. He secured 4 fewer points then Perez, who finished 3 fewer GP's in an arguably similarly paced car.

Here's another way to think about it;
2013 2014
JB 73 126
Perez 49 59
Kmag - 55

If anything Kmag is in a worse position then Perez was in 2013, he's way behind his team mate. I get that Jense is getting old and doesn't have a lot of years left, but Kmag sure isn't ready to be the #2 in a Mclaren.

Button's car set-up prowess and experience cannot be matched by a rookie and that is what McLaren need to succeed. He beat his team mate handily over the course of this year and should be given at least another year.

Britain's Financial Times reports that Paul Walsh, former CEO of consumer goods conglomerate Diageo, is being lined up to become chairman of the Formula 1 board, which the newspaper says "could signal the beginning of the end of Bernie Ecclestone's control of the sport."

A board meeting is being scheduled for early next week to discuss Walsh replacing Nestlé chairman Peter Brabeck, who is undergoing medical treatment for an undisclosed illness, as F1 board chairman for two years, the FT reports.
Although Ecclestone's position as F1's chief executive would not necessarily change, the FT report says that CVC Capital Partners, the private equity group which owns 35.5 percent of F1, "is thought to want Mr. Walsh to take on some executive duties in addition to chairing the board."

The 84-year-old Ecclestone's grip on F1 was shaken earlier this year when he stood trial in Germany on bribery charges. The charges were dropped when Ecclestone agreed to settle the case for $100m, but it is believed that advisors to CVC regard Ecclestone as an obstacle to the equity group's long-delayed plans to float F1 on the stock market.
Good move. Someone needs to be ready to go if...you know...someone croaks.

Let's see....

Ferrari CEO - Fired
Ferrari Team Director - Fired Twice!
Ferrari Engine Designer - Fired
Ferrari #1 driver - Fired or Quit (take your pick)
Ferrari Aerodynamics Head - Fired

Rory Bryne must be nervous but I doubt he needs the money (supposedly pulling in $2M/year from Ferrari a decade ago when they were winning WDC and WCC like it was a formality)

Sebastian, it's gonna be a looooooooooooong 2015
