Paint defect
Hi all,
My 2014 ILX in Bellanova White has a color mismatch between the front bumper and hood of the car. Completely unacceptable. The bumper is several shades darker. The car is still under comprehensive warranty.
Has anyone gone back to the dealer to have this kind of problem corrected?
Please don't post messages stating it's "normal". I'm looking for solutions to have the bumper color corrected to match the hood under warranty and by the dealer.
Thanks!

What you're seeing is the difference in what paint looks like on plastic vs paint on metal. This is most notable on lighter paint like . . . . . ..Bellanova White

Go to a quality paint shop to get the entire car repainted

I understand that you don't want to hear that its normal. Unfortunately it's pretty common for white (IMO especially pearls) to show this mismatch from metal fender to plastic bumper. You may also notice this on some Silver cars too.
I have a 2011 WDP TL and while I can tell the paint is slightly off it's not as noticeable as you described your ILX to be.
Did you just recently get the car or have you had it since new? I'm asking because if you just got it, and it's a CPO you should go back to the dealer and tell them you're unhappy with the mismatch. Tell them you just noticed it when the vehicle was in direct sunlight.
If you've had the ILX for several years, I think you will have a much tougher time trying to explain why you waited several years to bring it to the dealers attention.. Good luck.

Have the same on our White Suede Flex. Slight mismatch in shade between metal & plastic between body/bumpers.
And, the dealer is likely to tell you the same, that it's 'normal'.

I know that this is a "normal" thing that would be noticable because when I took my old Civic into a body shop when a lady ran into me, they said that no matter how well they would try to match the color, it will always reflect differently on different materials. Even if they would repaint the whole car it would most likely be ever so slightly different in shades due to the material under it. Unfortunately, some colors show it more than others.

back in the good ol' days, people listened and learned from the manufacturer what is normal (they are the ones making the cars arent they?)
nowadays, people have their own definition of normal and expect cars to be made catered to their wants

It's hard to believe that people pay good money for cars only to accept that a paint mismatch is "normal". I have seen endless white cars on the road that are very well matched, not 3 shades off. Maybe if the manufacturers had more complaints they'd do a better job. Food for thought.
To those who've asked, I've had this car for about a month. I noticed the paint mismatch the day I picked it up from the dealer and clearly stated that I wasn't happy with it. They had just removed the 3M film from the hood so I couldn't see the difference before. I had to take it home because I had no other means of getting home.
I have now escalated the matter to Acura Canada. The front bumper is way off.

So then if the color is that far off ask them if they repainted the bumper. My guess is yes as you said they removed the film from the hood and not rest so likely was removed from front bumper etc to repaint. Id verify why it was repainted and by whom.
There will always be a difference some colors show more than others due to the adhesion properties of plastic vs metal. I had front bumper on an RL CGP repainted and it matches perfectly on my KBP it was also repainted and its a shade darker and it was done by same shop but its not obnoxiously different as you describe for yours.
I think they had some bumper jockey prep it on their lot before resale if so I'd be more concerned about the quality of the repaint it will not last if its not done in a controlled environment.
Good luck in your fight.

Absolutely nothing
There is nothing that can be done to make the paint uniform in color. Wait, let me rephrase that- there's nothing that the factory will do to make the paint uniform in color.
If you're expecting acura to rethink its entire paint process, I wouldn't be holding my breath. All you're going to end up with is a resprayed bumper and I can assure you- oem paint, 99 times out of 100, is much better than a repaint in terms of adhesion and longevity.
Don't take my word for it. But ask anyone who's been around hondas and Acuras for years and they will tell you that it's completely normal.

Reading these posts, I don't understand what the material being painted has to do with the appearance of the color coat since both plastic and metal are sprayed with or dipped in primer first. I guess if the primers were different the color might also appear different. Could someone in the know shed some light on this?
#23
Actually YES. You don't generally use the same type of primer paint for a metal vs a plastic vs wood vs stone vs other material. there are obviously some that are general purpose primers, but even those will be recommended for only a couple materials, like plastic or metal... because both materials will still adhere differently. I'm sure Honda/ Acura uses some kind of general purpose industrial grade paint primer. This is a real first world problem. I say its pretty annoying but, not a huge issue.
The bigger issue is you SEEING a "huge issue" and BUYING IT ANYWAY!! What a crybaby. Lets be honest. The dealer Honda /Acura isn't gonna do squat about this, unless it was a badly repainted bumper. The only reason the threadstarter said that they ARE, is because he felt butthurt when he got hit by the truth.
"GUYS - I don't want to heare the truth! PLEASE tell my in my safe space where I can stop the EVIL injustice from the patriarchal dealer! PLEASE GUYS! they took advantage of me! I HAD to get home somehow! I have NEVER heard of a taxi, UBER, LYFT, a bus, A train, or walking like grown man! EVIL DEALERSHIP SCREWED ME!".....even tho you clearly saw it at time of purchase...? RIIIIIGHT....
...and if you say you had somewhere to be... then WHY the fuck would you buy a car or pickup a car ON A TIME LIMIT?! this is not a drive-thru run to McDonalds, man. Most people spend half a day to ALL DAY at the dealer to get what they want.
