DIY: ILX G1 Brake Light Swap. AFspec edition.

Hello everyone.

Back with a DIY on changing your brakelights. The first DIY for the fogs can be found here: https://acurazine.com/forums/ilx-per...t-swap-944402/

This time I get to use some lighting from Thmanx/AFspec himself. You can find these lights and more at https://af-lighting.net/

These specific lights (red 280 30w) can be found here https://af-lighting.net/products/il4...ybrid-led-pair

Now on with the DIY.

Album DIY: ILX G1 Brakelight Swap - Album on Imgur

Use flat head screw driver to open small door to reach screws.

Two screws hold brake light in.

Pull brake light toward you. I put on hand on the left side and pull by putting two fingers behind the tab that had the screws holding it in.

That small white tab is why the brake light will only slide toward the back. Use that to secure the brake light back into place at the end.

Top (left) socket is the brake light while the bottom (right) socket is for the turn signal. Easiest to pop the bottom socket out first since there is no bulb attached. Then undo the top brake light which does have a real bulb.

OE brake light bulb.

OE bulb left. AFspec 280 30w red cone in the middle. That is what we are using. The two LEDs on the right are another style brake light offered by AFspec in red 20w.

Aftermarket AFspec 280 30w output.

Attachment 101794
Left OE. Right AFspec 280 30w LEDs

Left OE. Right the 20w LEDs from AFspec.

AFSpec 280 30w

Attachment 101799
AFspec 280 30w

Attachment 101800
Left AFspec 20w LEDs. Right AFspec 280 30w

Attachment 101801
Left AFspec 20w LEDs & Right AFspec 280 30w on ground.

P.S. All unedited shots standing at the same spot for each comparison shot. These 30w projectors are truly brilliant. So damn bright. And they really light up the entire red housing while the OE bulbs can only really light up the small rectangle.

The 20w were great as well. In comparison to OE they still blow them away. In the comparison to the 30w projectors they look much dimmer. Those 30w LEDs are just nuts. Love it. And now I also have a back up set of 20w for the day these 30w go out.

Are you asking in regards to the turn signal?

Our signal uses the lower half while the brake light uses the top half. As for your specific question I frankly dont know. The top bulb is used for braking only while the bottom one is signaling only so I assume the brake light is a single filament.

lol Good! They shouldnt be that close to me. hahahaha

My neighbor is a cop. He saw me taking a pic with them on and asked me for the site I bought them from. His quote was "I bet that has stopping power." I think he approved.

Not sure if serious... That stuff was literally just for that pic as a joke because everyone else in the world puts alcohol on their tray and i dont drink so i put a dab rig and torch on it instead but i wouldnt be caught dead with that shit on my tray daily driving.

But the tray itself he has seen and didnt comment either way on. He used to own a civic with slight mods then got a truck to haul his kids. His wife has a little fusion he has lowered and thrown plastidip on the wheels since seeing my plastidip forever ago amd my suggestion on springs for a nice inch drop.

Only people here hate on the tray. But people here also love vossens, other shit wheels, ruin their cars with floor jacks, and cant install spacers themselves so frankly i could give a fuck less what 98% of these idiots think. If making fun of me makes them feel better at night when their wife goes to bed without giving them a reach around then by all means im not going to stop them.

In those specials they are typically being roasted by someone they consider a friend. That's the difference here crab boy.

For sure man. It's hard to take something as a joke when it is used against you by people who are genuinely being malicious. It's a fine line here.

I thought our brake light bulb have one filament for the running tail light and the second filament for when you hit the brakes. Ive been wanting to change my rear turn signal and brake lights to led. im good as long as the bulbs brightens up when i hit the brakes. and do i need to get a resistor to use these bulbs?

Everything is in the DIY man. No resistors i showed everything in the pics. I had to use a block of wood to hold my brakes on to show what they look like on so yes they get brighter when you press the brake.

Any questions like that if direct toward thamnx.
