What TV should I buy?

I'm shopping for a TV, I haven't been keeping up with any technology, I hardly know anything about TV's.

What would you buy right now? Where should I shop?

Preferences:
  • 55-65"
  • Reliable
  • Great picture quality
  • High value, no more than $2500

No need for 3D or Wifi. I currently have a 5 year old Samsung DLP which is dying. I wouldn't buy another DLP again because it doesn't show well in bright rooms.

Only things I plan on connecting to it are a Cable Box and PS4, but it would be nice to have an extra HDMI port or two.

I have a 40" Samsung that I love, it's a few years old, not a smart or 3D TV but it's LED and has been excellent for my gaming uses.

My brother recently purchased a TV similar to what you want, a 60" Vizio, smart TV, not sure if it's 3D or not...but it is also LED, excellent picture, Netflix is fast and easy to access, and I believe has 4 HDMI ports. Just under $1400 last Black Friday at Wal-Mart.

I suggest waiting for Black Friday since it's only a few months away, otherwise, search, search, search!! Amazon, Wal-Mart, Best-Buy, Brandsmart USA, ect.

Also...for any TV nowadays, I suggest a sound system or sound bar to pair it with...the speakers suck on these new TV's. Along with my brother's TV he added a Vizio soundbar with a wireless sub and it sounds on par with my old Pioneer 5.1 I use for gaming.

A Samsung or a Sony at Costco.

You can compare the picture quality of various versions & brands at Costco or Best Buy to see if you like the Sharp, Panasonic, Vizio, etc., although the lighting won't be anything like your living room.

What key features should I note of when shopping?

Example, 240hz, 1080p, etc.

I'm not looking for the latest cutting edge technology, but I want to get a TV that is near the top of the range at the moment.

Most features are marketing.....

the only thing you need in a TV is 1080p.
EVERYTHING ELSE is marketing.

One thing I will tell you now...look in the menus for a "Game Mode", some of the larger TV's have a lag to them when playing games and it makes it unbearable to play. My 40" didn't have this issue but my parent's and brother's did being a 60".
