TV on the fritz!

Stopped watching TV for about a week, TV decided to punish me. Turned it on and at some point it developed this thin black line along the width of the screen.

Anyone ever experienced this before? Hoping this could be something I could fix myself...

Duh, a line of dead pixels it is. I should have just asked if dead pixels are something I can fix myself. Anyone have any experience with it?

Does it have a built in screen wipe function. Otherwise it looks like a new TV is in order unless it is under warranty.

Nah, bought it about 5 years ago.

It does have a screen wipe.. but does that usually work with this stuff? I've also read up about the pressure technique. That seems too risky, though

Screen wipe is a function inside the TV not like a cloth

No I know what he meant. I was assuming that thing was only meant for like image burn or stuck pixels or something.

why too risky?

Looks like you have two options:

1. try fixing it. If it doesn't work or you screw it up, buy a new tv. Or,

2. buy a new tv

Well from what I've read the pressure technique mostly applies to stuck pixels, which seems to be a different thing. Also apparently you literally have to put pressure on a pixel-perfect spot on the screen. If you press too hard on any of the neighboring pixels it will just make it worse

Unless I'm mistaken..? As it stands right now I can live with it... until a good deal on a new TV comes along. But is there no actual component to replace that would fix this?

Try putting a frozen steak on it. If it doesn't work toss the tv in the trash thaw/cook steak and enjoy with beer.
