Looking For A New TV

I am looking at replacing the TV in our family room. We have a 7 year old Samsung DLP now and it works great but we're going to put it in the basement.

I am looking at one of the following to replace it:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007BG4U70

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0077SBPPM

Amazon.com: LG Electronics 50LN5700 50-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV: Electronics

Amazon.com: LG Electronics 50LA6200 50-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV and Four Pairs of 3D Glasses: Electronics

I am a fan of the Samsung because of the performance of the DLP we have now. I am trying to keep it around $1000 if not less.

Thanks

Get the first one. Samsung makes a great TV. Not a fan of 3D, but that's personal preference.

My parents have an LG, 55" I think...it's nice, but I prefer my older Sammy (much better picture).

I know you want to keep it at $1000 but I don't know if you looked but the 60in of the first link you posted is on super sale right now and under $1500 which is a steal.

Our family room is not that big. 60 inch would look odd in there. The 50 inch already looks too large. Between the TV stand and speakers and plant we list one entire wall.

And the basement is Elliott's right now. I'm not getting a 60 inch for the basement.

Plus 1500 is a bit much. Can't afford that.

the 50" F6400 is $1,200 and is this year's model:

Amazon.com: Samsung UN50F6400 50-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Slim Smart LED HDTV: Televisions & Video Amazon.com: Samsung UN50F6400 50-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Slim Smart LED HDTV: Televisions & Video

The other ones you posted were last year's models. It looks like this F6400 series has all the features as last year's ES6500 series.

Any feedback on how the 3D works on these? Is it worth it?

I have the ES8000 (one of the 2012 models). The 3-D is pretty cool. Of course, proper 3-D material looks great, but the TV can convert anything to "3-D". It isn't as pronounced as proper 3-D content, but it does it's job. It seems to work well on things like sports where there is a lot of difference in depth. However, with regular shows I prefer watching in 2-D.

I have 3D and I've used it zero times.

Get a Samsung or Sony, both great brands for tv's IMO

Not sure what the deal is but anyone I know who has had an LG didn't have it long.

sammy, I've had nothing but great luck with the last 3. My dad grabbed an LG cheap and the picture doesn't stack up to any or the sammies.

My Sony rear projection blew a blub last night. Not going to buy a new one. Have been wanting to buy LED LCD TV. The 50LN5700, is one that I've been looking at online. I think I'm going to get it. But I'm very torn to get their new 55LA7400 line. Wife is telling to go for the one I want, vs. the one I want to settle for.

Rav, pick what you my want, and read the reviews at amazon.com , you get real feedback from those who own the set you're looking for, not just one's that have a bias for a brand.

I've been doing that. I'm pretty much sold on the Samsung based on the reviews and based on the performance of the DLP we have now. I've been looking at the LG as well because they are in all the hotel rooms I stay in and I like the picture.

Any other ones I should be considering? Sharp, Panasonic?

I've not liked the pictures that I've seen from Sharp in person at people homes. Panasonic is great, if you're looking at Plasma's.

But it's Sony, Samsung and LG, IMO. I've ruled out ever buying another Sony TV product. Because of the BS they were trying to pull when they were number one. Plus Yummy is a Sony drone,

I have a 2012 Panasonic 47" LED also, and the picture quality is really nice on that too! But the Samsung takes it to another level. I don't know about this year, but for the series that my Panasonic is, they only offered it in 47" or 55".

One other bit of advice. I don't know if you were considering getting an extended warranty, but if you are, buy the 3-year Squaretrade warranty through Costco. You don't have to buy the TV from them, and it's only $60 for TVs up to $1,000, or $100 for TVs over $1,000. That's crazy cheap, especially compared to what other retail stores (and even Amazon) charges.

I have a 55" Samsung LCD from 2010, in 2012 the power supply started acting up and the backlight was flashing. Long story short I called them to complain and even though it was out of warranty they sent a tech and fixed it free of charge, so Samsung has kinda won me over on customer service. I don't think you can go wrong with them.

I would also skip on the 3D. And go bigger lol.

So as I mentioned my 27" LG LCD completely died, so I picked up a Vizio 47" LED to replace it. It is way too big for my bedroom and takes up the entire wall, but I absolutely love it so far.

Here's the old LG getting ready to come down.

Here's the new beast

And there she is all installed on the wall.

Thanks guys, I'm still trying to get used to walking in and seeing that giant beast on the wall. Gonna take some getting used to, it's sad, it's bigger than the 34" I have in my living room

Love my Samsung too. They also won me over when it would randomly turn off and despite being out of warranty, they sent someone out to fix it.

Highly recommend their products and service!

Samsung service is more or less an oxymoron IMHO. Their tech support is a joke. I called them with a simple question, what bolt pattern did a new model use. Had to order a motorized mount and had to make sure I had the right one as it was a special order. Their website and manuals no longer state what bolt patter then TV's use. Called up and the person didn't even know what I was talking about, let alone being able to find the info for me.

Recently had a Samsung tech tell me that the reason a new F7000 series LED does not support any more than 720p via component is because the cable itself is not capable of passing 1080i/p. Ugh.

As to them fixing your issue, they had two issues with TV's turning off and back on randomly. One was with recent sets, and all it required was a firmware update to fix. The other was an issue with bad capacitors in which a myriad of complaints came in and a class action lawsuit. My guess is your TV fell into one of these two

Get the sammy. I have two at my house, a 58" in the living room that's about 4 years and a 51" in the bedroom that's almost 2 years old. Both working flawlessly.

I had this issue with the Sammy I bought for my dad years ago. Called up sammy and they came out and repaired the TV free of charge well outside of warranty. At the time I was not aware of the class action so their service may have already been affected by the judgement, not sure. But I'm happy with them. I have 2 in my condo and they have been great tv's.
