Then you'd jizz at some of our systems. We typically tie in a URC Total Control home automation system with an outdoor zone. Can control the outdoor music from a keypad ranging from a single gang push button keypad, to a 2" color touch screen or a 7" touchscreen with haptic feedback. Also can control from any remote control in the system, an iOS device or Android device. Can get any source to play outside, full metadata from any streaming source, or music stored on a network hard drive, and of course control volume from any of the mentioned interfaces.

To those saying outdoor speakers are not necessary have not experienced a real outdoor system. In Connecticut, we only get to use the outdoor systems for 6 months and they get plenty of use. I wish some of you lived closer that are considering what to do outdoor. I put together a demo landscape audio system to bring to clients houses to demo for them before they decide to put a pair of speakers on the house.

The demo system consists of 6 4" satellite speakers that mimick the look of landscape lighting, and 1 12" in ground subwoofer (obviously not buried for demo). I am powering it with a Crown CDi1000 70 volt amp. Souce is a Nuvo P200 which can stream music right from a iPhone or Android. I have a Ubiquiti airrouter in the kit as well to provide wireless so the system is self contained and wireless so no need to plug anything in. I do have an aux input so a potential client and plug in their own phone if they wish to play some of their own music. Its all housed in a gator case.

Once you experience this system, you will better understand what good outdoor audio is. These are not the cheapest systems but clients are happy to pay once they hear it. Typically we are placing them around pools. The other advantage is that you have more balanced sound over a large or louder area. We try to place a satellite speaker every 20 feet and when possible 2 in ground subs located in opposite corners of the yard. With this setup, you do not have to turn up the sound and tick off the neighbors while creating smooth sound at lower volumes across the yard. The problem with speakers mounted on the house is once you start walking away from that area, you have to turn them up louder. This can annoy neighbors as well as make it uncomfortable for anyone still sitting or stand on the deck. I'll try to remember to dig up some pictures of one or two we set up.

With Total Control you can do a lot more. Instead of getting up and turning on your music, you can have certain zones not only start playing your music automatically at a specific time, but you can have it turn on your lights and open your shades or turn on the tv and tune to a specific station. Don't get up at the same time every day? You can use a motion sensor to trigger these events so when you get up or go in the bathroom between specific times of the day it will trigger these events.

I have garage door control with feedback so I know when the door is open or closed as well as front door locks. I have the lock set so when my fiancee uses her pin code to unlock the door, it will fire up the TV in the family room and change the channel to playboy ;-)
There are many possibilities for the system. I also have a motion sense in my porch that triggers a light out there and emails me when the motion is triggered. The light is obviously nice for nighttime, but the email is nice so I know when I get packages since FedEx leaves all our packages in the porch.

I looked at a C63 last week.. head bolt issue has me worried though. Seats are ultra uncomfortable although it's quite spacious for it's size. Four full-sized adults could ride comfortably in it.. well.. back seat anyways (those bolsters).. lol.

I'm also looking at a CTS-V2.. both the caddy and benz are priced lower than the '08 IS-Fs in my area with similar mileage.

What is a ball park price for one of those wireless systems with in ground and 4 speakers? I want to do something nice in the backyard and that also sounds like something that would not be that hard to take with me if I move too.

The home automation stuff is awesome but every time I start researching it the costs I start coming up with usually start to out weight the benefits of them.

The C63 is nice but it isn't as good in the twisties in my opinion and you hardly ever have a chance to use all that power anyways.

That is surprising that the second gen CTS-V is cheaper than an 08 IS-F. It is not that way over around this area. The Vs are still a good 5-8k more for similar mileage. I would try and stay away from the 09-09 ISF as the suspension was pretty garbage. They fixed in in 2010 with a different spring and shock rate that were better balanced.

I think you misunderstood. The outdoor system is not wireless. It is based on a 70v system with wiring being fed from the amp to the first speaker, and then they daisy chain from one speaker to the next. The version of the system we use utilizes an 8 ohm subwoofer rather than 70v, which produces better bass. The downside is you have to run a second wire out for the sub.

Whether the system is worth the cost depends on the individual. We have clients who are spending no more than a month or two of salary to pay for the system. To them it's worth it just to make their life easier.

If you do not have any lighting control, I'd start there. Once you have it you see the huge benefits. Not just with being able to be lazy and turn lights off from your seat, or turn lights off anywhere in the house, but to be able to easily program scenes and especially automated scenes.

Im bringing this back up since im in the market for one. Something thats not too pricey.. i found a yamaha rx v573 for 100 but im sure thats an older model. Currently there are polk speakers inside and bose outside i may replace those though..

i will be running my samsung soundbar and sub upstairs in our spare room.

I'm in the process of upgrading my basement system. Its an unfinished basement but since we have a small cape, only around 1450 sq ft, there is no other place for it. Gonna look for a house that has space for a dedicated room when we start looking again. Have a cheap motorized 100" screen and Epson projector. Those will be upgraded when we move. Just upgraded the speakers, KEF Q900's in front, KEF Q600c Center, and KEF Q300's in the rear. Still have a Onkyo Sub that will be replaced either with two KEF subs or Sunfire subs, not sure which or which models yet. Powring them with a URC DMS-AV receiver which streams music from the rest of the automation system. This area will double as our work out area, so the music will be nice to have down there finally. It's really kind ghetto with the unfinished space. The ceilings are just too low to finish off.

If anything, I'd push the sectional a little further in and away from the wall. I don't know about those polk rears, but they appear to be positioned correctly (toward the listener). The fronts.. I'd go with some decent bookshelf speakers and a kickass center. Stereo subs might be overboard for the space, especially with the pack n play in the corner.

I'd put the sub in that area though.. loving my F12. Be careful with loose picture frames on the mantle.. it'll shake them off. I say mounted component / bookshelf speakers because of the space and likelihood of one of the little ones knocking a tower on them.

I'd do a pair of klipsch surrounds or reference speakers.. Maybe B20s / KB15s or reference series. Maybe KC25 or RC62 center.. or do 3 centers if you can find a good deal. I'm sure you'll figure out what works for you. If you replace those polks, see if you can reuse the mounts. I think dual horn surrounds like S10s would be nice in those corners.
