Thanks for the info 2001AudiS4.

I agree with you on having a TV higher being better. My couch will be about 10ft away from the wall so I should be fine. Plus I already have my 42" on a TV stand with adjustable hight and I have it on the highest setting so I'm used to it being higher than on a normal TV stand. I'll probably be investing in a larger TV for this particular room though, thinking 50"+.

I've never really tackled anything like this before but I think I might give it a shot. There's a huge mirror above the fireplace now so since that has to come down and might take some of the sheet rock with it I might have to redo that anyway, which would give me the advantage of seeing where the wiring has to go. Similar to your installation you showed above there are built in cabinets on both sides of the fireplace perfect for putting a cable box and modem.

Very nice, I just picked up the 32" 1080P version to replace the 27" LG in my TV stand in the living room, also got a brand new Pioneer receiver and JBL speaker system, and a power recliner with upper and lower heat and massage. I love sitting in my living room now

Just picked this up for the man cave downstairs to go with the 80" screen, to replace the Panasonic 2.1 system that was down there

This is the system that I picked up for the upstairs living room (stock photo)

The man cave is way too small for the Pioneer system, so I went with the smaller Panasonic 1000w system for down there because it had a smaller foot print.

I'll post pics of all the new stuff soon

A couple of updates...

I inherited a JLB PowerBass PB12 sub from work (it was either I took it home or it was going to be recycled) which has proven to be a decent upgrade from the KLH sub I have...especially for being free.

I also bought new batteries for an APC Back-UPS XS 800VA UPS that I had sitting in the closet, so I connected my home theater setup to it. It's more for AVR than battery backup. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I figured why not.

need to get some better pictures

Unfortunately, I had a strict budget I had to stick to with this build, but I was able to get it all for what I needed (all I added was a new TV, Speakers, and Receiver), did it all for under $1,500

LG 60" 60PA6500 Plasma
Denon AVR-1712
Polk RM705 5.1
PS3
Apple TV 2.0 (one for downstairs and upstairs)
Apple TV v1.0 - 160GB HD to store movies on

I also don't like the speaker placement, but the house was pre-wired and I didn't want to mess with it at the time. Unfortunately I had to mount the surround speakers upside down, but they still sound good. Still need to move them around a bit to find the right angle but am waiting for some new furniture to come.

Just wondering how you route the power/HDMI cables through the wall to be hidden?
I already had an outlet back there which was nice. My mistake was buying a cheetah mount on amazon that had great reviews and was cheap. It didn't allow the TV to angle enough so I had to have my installer supply a mount later.

With my mount, he charged me $100 to mount it. I then had to have him come back with a supplied mount from him and he charged me $100 for the mount and $50 to put it back up. My wires run up a wire hider up the side of the fireplace, you can see the hider, but it's fine for me now since we are renting.

Looks nice and clean Scott, definitely interesting the way that the speaker mounts are hung though, but it looks nice

FINALLY GETTING BACK INTO THIS!!! So after a little bit of research I decided to get the Pioneer Elite Sc-55 receiver. I was gonna get the 2012 model the sc-65 but it has weaker build quality a few less inputs and while it does have some new features like 4k passthrough and the ability to shut off the builtin amps when acting as a preamp they weren't worth the extra $400.

This receiver will be paired with my Klipsch RF-7s (most likely bi-amped) and Velodyne HGS-10. The DLNA, Airplay and iPad apps are what kept me with Pioneer Elite.

This will be replacing my Pioneer Elite VSX-49TX that died on me a few years ago

I'll post pics when it arrives next week

No - TV installed in Pre built custom Bookshelf with wires behind up and over through fireplace to R Speaker. Nice Job. Still took 2 guys 2 - 3 hours. $120 first hour $80 for additional hour + cable and parts = $450 from custom audio shop.
Wireless Sub to be added .. but SR and rear speakers are too difficult in my great open room design. Its good as is and Home Theater planned upstairs.

Not exactly a home theater system but can act like one. I decided to try some new things while i'm in college but i basically built this set up out of car audio parts right down to the deck. Okay I lied the sub in the picture is actually a home theater sub but my new setup has a boss audio sub. Can't really get a nice pic of the new setup since the sub is under my bed(can never have enough room in college dorms) but yeah. I love it.Friends love it, great for video games.Creates a whole new experience. Am lacking the tv department but that doesn't really bother me

Last year I upgraded to a Viewsonic Pro8200 1080P Projector, ran 25 ft HDMI's from my DVR and Blu-Ray. Love this thing, makes my 80" screen look like a true 1080P HD TV.

These are some pics of a not yet completed project we worked on recently. It consists of a Screen Innovations Slate 100" motorized screen, Epson 6030u projector, Yamaha RX-A2030 AVR, KEF 8" IW and IC speakers, KEF Q600 Center, URC MX1200 remote along with iOS app mimicking the remote, and URC by Lutron lighting.

The center will be housed in a custom bench that has yet to be built. The projector is going to be encased is a ventilated box with fans with temp control. Equipment is housed in a closet. Automated Blackout shades will be added as well in the next phase. Budget forced us to do it in phases. This is basically a cottage, so space was an issue and this was the only room it was possible to install this in. It is NOT the ideal room, but so far is working out pretty well. The client is much more focused on music so the theater is an after thought. This is actually his first and only TV in the house. Sorry, these are all the pics I have at this time. Figured I post even though it isn't technically MY system since not much has been posted and so many of you seem to be interested in this stuff.

I had a recent change in living accommodations which resulted in having to combine my 2-channel and HT systems. I wasn't willing to compromise 2-channel fidelity so here's my set-up:

55" Sanyo Aquos
Oppo BDP105
Pass Labs X150 (FR, FL)
Acurus A100x3 (C, RR, RL)
Martin Logan SL3 (FR,FL)
Martin Logan Encore (C)
Pinnacle Baby Boomer (fr sub)
Def Tech BP2000TL (RR, RL, rr subs)

The Oppo has the capability to connect via XLR direct to the Pass Labs power amp and act as a 'pre-amp' in so far as volume control is concerned. The Oppo is a very high fidelity CD/digital player/DAC (it credibly replaced a Wadia CDP). In addition to audiophile-level 2-channel DAC performance and first class blu-ray capability, the Oppo has the functionality to act as an entertainment server (wifi, USB's, apps. etc.) Yeah, it's stupidly expensive for a BDP but, in fact, you'd need to spend nearly the same amount just to get the level of DAC quality alone, then you add the transport, CPU, video processor, etc. and it's actually a steal.

This thread makes me feel inferior.

Here's mine:

-Panasonic P60GT50 60" plasma
-Klipsch Icon SB 1 soundbar

I've had the TV for almost two years now. I absolutely plasmas and wish they weren't fading away. The soundbar is pretty good for what it is; it does a decent job at mimicking full surround. I'd much rather have an actual surround system, but being in an apartment, I'd never really be able to use it to it's fullest. As it is, I only have the sub up to about 20%. Any further and I think I'd start to piss off neighbors.

Sometimes I wish I didn't live in an apartment

Kam.. looks like you could have fit a 75" there..

That's a good setup civic.. even for a home. A kickass soundbar and sub are more than up-to-par with a full audio setup. Plasmas couldn't scale with LED LCDs. Much better PQ in general which sucks. Plus if they could scale, we'd be seeing some good price competition. Sucks.. it is a good time to buy a 1080p LED LCD since they're pushing 4K pretty hard.

I used to have a Vietnamese neighbors (moved to a better neighborhood).. they'd get drunk every tues / wed night.. fucking karaoke until 1AM. They weren't bad neighbors otherwise. Those days, I'm glad I had something to tune them out.

i was VERY tempted... you should have seen me at Costco standing in the middle of the aisle in a state of awe at the 75" model looking up at it like a little kid... i was very close to pulling the trigger, but the price difference didn't make sense to me... i managed to get the 65 on sale for under 1500, and the 75 was close to 3k...

sizewise, it would have just fit, but then there would have only been 2" on top and bottom vs the 'recommended'' 4" clearance... i'm assuming its for venting and would have probably been find with the airflow on both sides...

if the 75 goes on sale, i may pick it up after xmas, move this 65 to my office/study, and move the 46 to the basement... lol... even though the basement isn't even finished yet.. ahahah... maybe i just need to focus on a receiver first... any deals on Pioneer Elites???

The new 4K Vizio P series hits the market this week I think.

4k 60" full LED array smart tv for $1600? Yes please.

Edit: Hell even the remote looks awesome...

Working on rebuilding my home theater PC to add another level of entertainment with the projector
Realized I never posted any pics in this thread, but here's a couple random ones of the new projector and the home theater PC all hooked up.

Here's the new projector, I absolutely love this thing, dual HDMI inputs, Full 1080P HD projecting on an 80" drop down screen.

I threw together a quad core 4.20 GHZ machine with a 2 GB HDMI video card, and ran the HDMI sound and video through my 5.1 surround sound and out to the projector.
