Update, no table yet. It's cold as fvck outside and I can't spend enough time out there to make something.

On another note, bids are coming in for kitchen remodel. Going to outsource a lot of it because of time constraints. I could DIY all of it but it would take far longer than it would take some pros to do it and the wife doesn't want to be out a kitchen for 4 months...

Alright so due to the abnormally awesome weather we had here over the weekend, I decided that it was time to make that table that I talked about before. I found some plans online so this isn't entirely my doing though I think I went a bit overboard on the table top...but it looks cool in the end.

Anyway, here's the build process (didn't document the cutting but I'm sure you all don't care about that part anyway...):

I did get the top finished and trimmed but forgot to take a pic yesterday, will do it this afternoon. Next steps are to finish the side runners on the table top this weekend and then finishing...which will come much later because we're back to normal February weather by Thursday.

Word of advice on the shelves, cut the 2x4 brackets down to 2x3 or 2x2 if you can. Makes the shelves much slimmer and better looking. I'm going to redo my basement shelves in this way over the summer. They are way too thick right now.

It's an excuse to buy more tools.

How do you like your C3 drill Sam?

For the price of it, the thing is pretty good. Battery lasts a while and it has a good amount of power. I've used it everywhere from normal average drilling to hang up pictures to pocket holes to driving lag screws into pressure treated lumber (in low range) and it has done it all without any issues. The battery life is more than adequate and the recharge times are quite low. It's not as good as a DeWalt or Milwaukee but at half the price, I'm ok with that. I'd recommend one to someone who wants a decent product at a good price. It's not exceptional but if your expectations are in check, it's quite good.

After a metric fuck ton of sanding, I finally got the top stained and edge routed last weekend. Had to buy a belt sander to knock down the material faster so that definitely helped. Then had to go back and fix the shit that the belt sander left behind, that thing is definitely a weapon of mass destruction. So overall I spent a good 3 hours sanding this thing from 60 grit all the way to 220 grit. Now it's as smooth as a baby's bottom.



I have to work on this in small bits while the temperature outside is managable. The temp last weekend was in the 50's and 60's while this past weekend was 20 so I didn't get sh1t done. I got the bottom partially painted but ran out of paint. Now I have paint but it's too fucking cold outside to do anything with it. Temps are back up (supposedly) this weekend so I'll finish it then and poly the top. Already planning my next project now!

4-gang outlet looks lonely up there; any reason it's placed there?

The bar in our basement used to be there so there was a countertop right in front of it. The outlets were live and we thought we'd put the TV there and cover up those outlets with that but it made more sense to go the other way so it was left there... Not really sure what to do with it at this point so they'll just stay there.

The plan all along was to keep the bar there so I didn't do anything with those outlets but we decided to change it last minute and move it to the other side of the basement. I might get something to hang on the wall that plugs into those outlets so they don't look so awkward though...

I don't really want to cover them up since the cover plate will still look a little out of place there but we'll see. Bigger fish to fry at this point lol. We're working on replacing all the sh1tty flat hollow core doors in our house with the solid oak ones and some of them are putting up a fight. Nothing ever quite fits properly when you do something like this so it's taking a lot of time with chisels and routers to make things happen.

To follow up on post 102, I had a bunch of scrap 3/4 plywood left over so I decided I'd use it rather than throw/burn it. Always thought the edge view of the ply looked interesting so I decided to make some coasters out of the scraps left over to go along with the table. Just going through the final steps of finishing them now.



Also got some shelving set up in the crawlspace under the stairs to make that space more efficient and useful.

After dicking around with a router plane jig and belt sander with terrible results, I decided to finally pony up for a used thickness planer. I accomplished what I spent 4 hours on Sunday in about 5-10 minutes last night...



I'm also working on making an end grain cutting board for my mom's 60th bday present hence the need for the planer. Just did the final glue up last night. Making this out of hard maple, walnut, and paduk. Should look pretty boss when I'm done.
