new house time, one year later
First, I would like to thank Ravi for putting some time aside to help me move last year. It was very generous to do so on a July 4th weekend. It was greatly appreciated.
We moved from a 1200 sqft to a 2300 sqft house plus a huge basement. We lived on a .2 acre lot and now have over a full acre. We have the type of neighbors where you can wave to them without having to spend 20 minutes talking to them since they live so far apart. Before, we were all on top of each other and we hated that. There was no privacy.
It's 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bath, office, formal dining , living room, and an extra kitchen space for our second kitchen table. We have laundry upstairs, but i don't always like that since the washer and dryer are louder and i can't do laundry when Mrs. Dallison is sleeping. But, that is only a minor issue. We can do laundry whenever without having to go downstairs.
Before we moved in we installed a 600' fence int he backyard to keep the pups in and other pups out. the neighbors were pretty upset with that but it wasn't against the rules so it went up anyway. We don't have an hoa, but it still upset some since there wasn't any other fences.
The dogs love it and so do we.
We have just planted a 30x25 garden and fruit trees. August will should be a bountiful month.
The house had real hardwood and pergola floors. But, we have dogs and no wood looks good with scratch marks, so we're installing tile. We were going to do most of the downstairs, but are only going to do the office, dining room, hall and bathroom. The kitchen and other kitchen eating are will come later when we bump out the kitchen to make it bigger. At that time we'll get new cabinets and countertops. We have all new appliances as we had left the old ones at the old house.
We were contemplating what to add to the back of the house. First it was a sunroom, then it was a screened in porch, then it was bumping out the living room 6-8' but that didn't pan out. In order to bump it out, they would have had to do major support work since it would have been 21' and then we would have a pole in the living room. The sunroom options were quite a bit more expensive than we wanted to spend. they were around 60-70k. That simply isn't in the budget. The sunroom companies were much too expensive for the crap they wanted to install. They kind of looked cheap too. A screened in porch really didn't make too much sense at this time, so we decided on a 8x12 unheated mudroom.
Right now when the dogs come into the house, they enter the living room. If they are wet, it is messy. so, with a mudroom, we can coral them until we dry them off. For 10-11k, it is worth it. We only have a 2 car garage, but i plan to build two more in a couple years.

It took them five days to finish our mudroom. They are having a gutter guy come in to put new gutters up. We are waiting to have the lumber cut for the inside. We're having one of our metal smiths/sawmill guys cut some pine for the interior. It's going to be a rough cut look. That will take a couple months for them to dry it before it can be installed.
I just need to figure out how to attach the split rail fence to the side of the house. I am planning to add a 2 car garage in a couple years and there is some concrete that i need to have dug up so i'm not sure what to do.
This is the outside finished product.

This is some progress of the tile work in the office. This room is taking forever as it measures about 17x12. Some tiles didn't take so they had to be pulled up and re mortared.

The living room is almost done. Yesterday i had crown molding installed in here and the office. The walls have been painted and all audio/video cables were ran behind the walls. We also had power ran for the ceiling fan. We have new leather furniture in the other room after our youngest gets a few months older and doesn't horse around on the furniture.
We're getting new carpet in this room within the next year. The last thing we will do is to paint the wood mantle ultra white. That will be done after summer.

There is still painting that needs to be done. I have the tile for the transitions into some of the rooms. I will post pics of the 1/2 bath once i start and complete it. It is going to be a freaking sweet ass room.
