Garage door opener issues
This is funky.... I've fixed some garage door openers before and programmed some but I can't troubleshoot this one, even with the help of google.
The only opener that works is the wall-mounted one. The light on the wall-mounted one is spazzing the hell out, however, blinking incessantly without end. We have a Sears (I think) Liftmaster. I tried an actual remote and it doesn't work. Tried it on two of our cars with built-in programmable garage openers and neither of them work.
thanks

Ultra super mega epic fail.
Okay, not really. As I stood there thinking what the heck it could be this morning, I looked at the wall-mounted door opener. For some reason, I fixated on the LOCK button. Some sort of latent desire to press it had awoken within me, and thus I held it down for a couple of seconds, and all of a sudden the manic blinking of the control unit stopped. Hopped in the car, pressed the homelink or whatever button and it suddenly worked again.
Someone probably pressed it on accident without knowing. Sometimes sleeping on it really helps.

Having an odd garage door opener issue.
We have:
2 Acuras with Homelink
1 original interior wall pad/button for the garage door opener
1 original in-car remote button (clip on visor thingy)
1 new "compatible" exterior keypad outside the garage
When we leave the house, we usually hit the interior wall pad/button as we enter the garage and then use the homelink to close the garage door after we back out.
Recently, the wifey has been unable to CLOSE the door using homelink. she took the original remote into her car and it worked fine.
I thought she was just being a "woman" and didn't think twice about it.
Then it started happening to me, too. ONLY closing the door. I also tried using the exterior keypad to close it and that would not work either. When I hit the interior original button, it closed fine.
Is it possible all the aftermarket remotes lost their rolling code connections ONLY for the closing (they subsequently will work to open the door after failing to close it)?

that's weird that they wouldn't work with closing... i would understand the reverse where it wouldn't work with opening... this happened to me a few times in the summer when it is hot... the humidity would screw up the frequency and the signal wouldn't reach the antenna with the door closed... but with the door open, the signal ran freely...
try resetting it?

I vaguely recall what I read when I was reading about the rolling codes on garage door openers for, um, reasons... And I don't think they lose code pairings like you proposed. The transmitters either work or don't. There is no "losing half the operation" where it would *only* open or close.
I also seem to remember at few instances where the optical eyes were the source of the problem. The little sensor jobbers that are supposed to detect if anything is under the door - the thing you Indy Jones jump over as the door comes down and you're trying to beat it out of the garage.
One case is if they get bumped and are out of alignment. Second is if either or both get dusty or obfuscated on the lens so it doesn't connect the optical circuit. And the third, really far out there case, was where sunlight hit the lens *just right* to confuse the sensor and cause it to not operate.
Those would be the simple checks to see. Other than that, .
EDIT: but that doesn't explain the OG remote working when the homelink doesn't.

Hopefully that will fix it...
I am just having trouble with the fact that the outdoor aftermarket keypad also won't close it when it is acting up...
I have to hut the interior button and then run and do a dance over the optical sensor to get out of the garage.

As said, just re-sync it.
The new GDO's you can buy have the "link" button on the wall keypad as well as on the opener housing. Best feature ever.

Is this the garage door issue thread? My gf's teenage daughter decided to yank the red lever to disengage the opener. I re-engaged it but when I push the button to lower it after doing so it hesitates and the light blinks fast. The spring is at its shortest and I believe I aligned it correctly where it should "catch" properly.

Did you try unlatching the red lever and letting the shuttle run a full open/close cycle before reengaging? Sounds like it might be off it's limits.
There's not much that can go wrong with that release contraption so it should go right back. Unless the latch itself is somehow damaged.

Yeah man, garage doors suck when they don't work. I bought a house with one that didn't work...turned out the carriage was busted...I was like, FK it...gonna toss the whole thing and get a new motor...my boss was like, dude, you crazy AF...that's a badass genie screw drive...FIX IT!
Previous owner tie wrapped the optical sensors facing each other on top of the motor... way to possibly kill a kid one day...so I added new sensors, ran the wires up in the attic for a clean install...then down the wall...bought a new carriage, and white lithium greased all the rollers...and graphite lubed the screw drive (do it once a year now)...so far, so good.

oh man, going to try that tip () this weekend too!
My garage door will open on its own fine, but on it's way down it will go halfway then stop and open back up again

Johnny, that sounds like it's jiggling the sensors and probably telling the door there's something in the way and going back up.
If you hold down the down button at the wall...and it'll force it to go all the way down, it's a safety trigger stopping it.

This. Also, check that the rollers in the guide tracks along both sides of the door aren't binding. I had to clean and lube the rollers a couple times a year at my old house because they'd start to bind and do the halfway down and stop thing.

yea usually if it has been working fine and it just started doing this... most likely the force was set just right and there is something binding to cause it to break the force limit...
just for anyone that doesn't realize... you should NOT be greasing the track that the rollers are on... lube the bearings of the rollers and the grease the trolley assembly and springs only...
i just had to replace the drive gear inside my 17 year old unit 2 wks ago... i was hoping it would die so i could get a jackshaft side mount... but ill save the $400 for now...

i was thinking the same thing.. I was looking at the sucker and was thinking.. oh man... it's dying, time to upgrade and get rid of this hideous track that's taking up all this ceiling space and throw up some storage!
guess I'll just fix it for now

I don't do local meets anymore since I haven't had a show worthy car in years. I'm honestly too busy with my kids, gf, family, 1.5 careers, gym, etc. If you're near your mom and want to lift some weights down at the LA Fitness near Tropical let me know!

LOL...I hit LA fitness too, but the Plantation one! I always work out alone though...
Honestly, the meets aren't about the cars anymore...I make the small ones where you bring fam and we bbq at markham park and whatnot...we can do one at Tropical one time though.
