^I was going to ask as I was watching a UFC fight last night, if all these other arts are so effective or whatever, why has MMA turned into it's own hybrid? It seems to be mostly boxing, muay thai, BJJ, and wrasslin. Gone are the days of style vs style which is why I loved Pride. Judoka vs BJJ BB.

Oh for real.. yeah, watching Vovinam vids.. everything looked familiar. Most MA started from somewhere with elements here and there. Not too many pure arts in that respect.
I'm a very big Cung Le fan, much before MMA.
I know he's been controversial with the juice and such, but win or lose, I'm watching him fight.
That's my fighting style.. he did a signature moves video.. something like 3 signature moves.. and they were my fav moves.. and I was like..

Anyways.. you have to be well rounded, and it's not really about the style, it's about the fighter.
Styles makes fights, but if you don't have the heart of a warrior, doesn't matter what you know.. you'll get exposed.
... Also.. MMA is a hybrid because... Mixed Martial Arts..
JKD was the first real MA that embraced many styles.. You have newer MA like Krav Maga.. also a blend of styles.
I saw a Krav Maga video that was really a Hapkido demo reel.. I was like.. wuut.. then I'm like well.. Hapkido took from Aikido, which took from Jujutsu.
Different arts, many moves blended in, with their own flair. No art is better than the other, but some arts expose others. Make sense?
You want to learn something that is effective for self-defense.. to do that you need to mix it up.
The best base you can have is a wrestling base, wrestlers dictate the fight.
Just look at Dan Severn.. freaking dominated for many years. Sure he fought cans, but he almost always dictated the fight..
Same with any top wrestler in MMA (DC for instance).

wrassle and grapple are effective because well if the guy can't move, it doesn't matter what discipline he knows, he can't execute it... we need to bring back kumite and pure art vs art...
VVN is an effective tool for 1 vs many because you use the momentum (similar to akido) against your opponents... you probably saw 999 scissor flips in the videos you watched... that was the first thing i learned as a 5 yrs old because it was fun to fly through the sky and take someone down... what it did teach was a lot was to not be afraid to fall down... since you were in the air most of the time, you needed to tumble in order to not suddenly stop the momentum and risk hurting yourself... don't ask me to do a back flip today though...

Here's the vid.. again.. this demo reel is the same as Hapkido reel.. same as a Jujutsu (not to be confused with Jiu Jitsu / BJJ) reel.. similar to an Aikido reel.
Just joint locks and throws baby!! Get some!

Harhar smart guy. I meant something like Yoshida vs Gracie.
Yeah you mention wrestling which is one of the more effective arts for MMA. But some of these arts you guys mentioned I've never heard of it mentioned as being used in a fight. I don't watch that much fighting anymore but in the late 2000's I saw a lot.

It was fun watching people get exposed.. or witness the hype in their head meet reality
Still a lot like that who train traditional MA.. my art is better than your art...
I'm with you though.. early MMA and Pride days were the best.
One of my favorites from the early years is Gary Goodridge.. Canadian Hapkido Blackbelt.
He had some of the most devestating wins.. unfortunately he took just as much as he gave..
He has dementia pugilistia.. it's hard watching a strong healthy guy barely able to keep it together

Gotta find a good instructor. I practiced pretty hardcore for almost 2 years. It was vinyasa flow, so always moving rather than holding. It was hard as shit and very intense, and made even more fun and challenging because my instructor liked to fly (inversions) so lots of practicing handstands, etc. My handstands sucked...really could only do them against a wall, but they were fun and made it worth it. I was able to do one handed stands on the wall.
I ended up burning myself out because I was trying to go 2-3x a week, and then started road cycling around the end, too.

Miz.. I encourage you mang.. head over to Kurt Osiander's gym (https://www.yelp.com/biz/ralph-graci...-san-francisco) and try it out..
I'm telling you.. fuck all the diet stuff.. eat whatever you want.
You'll probably lose 10 lbs in the first week.. the warmups are intense.
Don't let that deter you though:
Exhaust the body
Proceed the mind
Cultivate the spirit
I don't imagine it's cheap.. but take advantage of the open schedule.
It's still a good value, check it out, or other gyms in the area around you.
You could also do per diem (which is more), but might work out okay if you can't work in a regular workout there.

Tito has some demons.. he was married to his college sweetheart who really was a sweetheart.
They have a kid.. then he dumps her.. says, she's my best friend but I don't love her.. what fucking marooon.
She was also the one to save his ass with the UFC brass and Dana by begging them to keep him on the roster
He immediately gets into relationship with Jenna.. has twins, she's drugged out of her mind the whole time (even while preggos)
Twins are born but seemingly healthy, it's tumultuous at best (arrests, domestic abuse bs).. she leaves for weeks at a time
At the same time Tito is getting his head kicked in because he can't focus on fighting, probably get his head kicked in anyways.. lol
Jenna wants nothing to do with kiddos apparently.. leaving them for weeks at a time.. divorce, he gets full custody
Tito gets in relationship with UFC ring girl (Miller).. seems to be a sweetheart
Been with her for a few years now, but I watched a reel on their relationship and it seems fake..
Plus DUI.. 3 years probation..
He's a clusterfuck of drama.. his poor kids.
Financially.. idk.. He's been here and there, talking about new fights, trying to manage Cyborg..
Right now, Bellator has set up a match against Chael Sonnen.. freak show fight.
I really think he has poor control over what goes down, but still trying to paper chase and stay relevant
There's an old reel of him when he was still with Kristen (college sweetheart).. made you want to cheer for him.. but all this bs is like.. ehhh
