The Great Water Debate

Forgive me guys, I know there is a similar topic somewhere here but I can't find it. So how much water do you drink? Do you buy bottles or do you filter? Or maybe you drink straight from the tap? Do you believe in the miracles of alkaline water? How do you measure whats "Good" for you? Acidity? PPM? What is your stance?

Water is almost the only beverage I go for. I have no idea how much water I drink, but it's gotta be enough. I've read some people drink upwards of 10 gallons a day so they can keep off water weight and have abs. Not sure how I'd feel about needing to go take a piss every 20 minutes...

Anyways, I go for filtered water. Just a normal Brita filter. While we're on the subject, does anyone who uses filtered water ever change out the filter? I've talked to someone who works with appliances and he said he's never changed out his water filter on his fridge. Not even once. Says you don't need to

I use the Pur filter on my faucet. When the light starts blinking red for a filter change, the water does tend to taste kinda crappy.

On topic, I too drink almost nothing but water. I say close to four gallons a day

I have an older fridge w/o the water in the door, and in AZ tap water comes out at 100 degrees... SO, I get the 5 gallon bottles delivered by Sparkletts.

Between the two of us, in the summer we go through about 3 1/4 gallons per person per week, including filling cycling bottles when we ride, etc...

I have a 500ml nalgene next to me all day and usually put away about 1.5L per day total.

I don't care if my water is filtered or the acidity or the PPM whatever that is as long as it is cold and doesn't taste bad. And yes I drink enough a day. I do drink the preferred 8 glasses a day. I think.

We have well water which passes through sediment filters, an acid neutralizer and an ion exchanger. Our drinking water is further purified through a GE Merlin continuous flow reverse osmosis unit. The Merlin reduces desolved solids from 110 ppm to about 1 or 2 ppm. We find it more refreshing and delicious than any designer water.

I run 5 to 10 miles per day and drink about 5 to 8 liters.

I'm at about 5 to 7 liters a day. The water at home is filtered through my Samsung fridge. Everyone that uses it says its some of the best water they've tasted. I try to change the filter as soon as the indicator goes red. When I'm at work I keep cases of spring water (DC tap water is horrible). Usually Deer Park since it's always on sale.

Dang, I was wrong. The nalgene I use is 1L, and I drink about 3 a day, plus an extra if I am riding/exercising.

I lost 30lbs over the last year a lot of that came with drinking more water and cutting back soda/sugary drinks drastically.

I had a brita water filter for a couple years and got into the habit of filling up a water jug and keeping it in the fridge so I always have cold filtered water.

Soda's great but cold filtered water is MUCH cheaper and almost as good.

The brita filter broke on me a few months back and this time I decided to go with the pur filter instead. SO. MUCH. BETTER.

In every way the pur is a superior filter to the brita. I don't notice a difference in taste but it says it filters more stuff so whatever. But in terms of installation, ease of use, and the stream of water that came out (brita has a violent stream) pur was much better.

I'd say I drink anywhere from 1/2 gal to 3/4 gal a day.

Activated charcoal does go bad. The pores eventually get clogged up and can't catch impurities any more. Just like you need to change the filter media in a fish tank, you also need to change the media that filters your water. Filtered water with a clean filter just tastes cleaner.

Like just about everyone, I occasionally found that there's sometimes nothing better than a cold Coke or Pepsi.

Then I went on a 6 month fitness program; including drinking only water. At the end of 6 months, I celebrated with a Coke....and it was so sugary and tasted so foul that I couldn't drink it.

Normally about a gallon a day, I have a Brita Pitcher that I'll use if I'm filling up a water bottle or want cold water but more often than not I just drink from the tap, I've only had it taste odd once or twice, called the water company about it and they had some kind of mixing issue, but it's really rare. I never buy bottled water except distilled. I haven't drank regular soda in a while, I've been pretty bad with diet soda lately though, still try to keep with a gallon of water, it definitely curbs my appetite.

We have a water filter system at work. I probably drink 60 to 70oz while at work. Believe it or not, I work out dry even though it's in a hot warehouse. Then my 12oz protein shake which I guess is water mixed with sweetener, protein etc. For dinner usually about 12oz of water or a Propel. At home it's straight sink. About 3 quarts on a weekday.Weekends :/

In the past couple years I've only had a can of soda maybe 3 times. Each time the inside of my mouth just feels slimy and sticky afterwards. You learn to appreciate water since it's almost the only beverage that legitimately does satisfy your thirst.

Also, has anyone tried the ZeroWater filter? Apparently you can recycle the pricey filters and get coupons for new ones:

late to this one, but im using zero water. i like it.

but occasionally the filters go bad quick and have a nasty fishy taste to it (happened only once). but so far the past 2 years with it have been good. i just buy the filters off amazon. cheaper than instore even with the zero water "discount" (or so ive read)

i drink 2 1 liter nalgene bottles a day, trying to work up to 3 but there are times i get so busy at work i only finish maybe 1.5

Someone at work just told me the 8 glasses a day thing is outdated. They said you should be drinking half your body weight in ounces. So if I weight ~155 pounds I should be drinking ~ 19 glasses a day? Riiight.

Didn't know a glass was a standard measurement? Half your body weight would be 9.68 cups or 77.5 ounces, not sure what the science on that is but it seems pretty reasonable. I guess the old wives tale is 8 cups/64 ounces. I normally shoot for a gallon.

I've always been under the impression a glass is 8 oz. Of course, some people might think it to be 6 oz or 10 oz or whatever, but I think 8 oz was the generalization.

Me too, headaches all the time, a friend told me to drink more water, sure enough, no more headaches. I drink about 80 ounces of water a day now.

^ That's what im trying to go for. I noticed my body has changed drastically when I was just drinking pop and sugary drinks. I've never liked water because it was flavorless.
Now im drinking about a gallon a day. Ever since I abandoned soda I feel more energized and not as thirsty as I would be when I would drink soda.

I've been putting lemon and limes in my water to give it some type of flavor.I don't know if it would be bad or not but it taste great

FYI if you take vitamins like D or a multi, the first immediate pee is typically neon yellow. Don't freak

Vitamin B supps give you highlighter yellow pee, took way too many once while drunk trying to avoid a hangover. Peed a lightsaber.

Let out the force huh. I actually don't take B alone. My multi has some but probably not as potent as a B pill.

I'm calling on anyone regularly drinking more than 2 gallons a day. I drink water like a fish when I do. I can easily down a quart without stopping. With that in mind, I was trying to detox my bladder once by consuming water constantly. I walked around all day with a gallon jug. Somewhere around 2 gallons I felt light headed and dizzy. I'm going to say carzyasian's 4 gal/day a bad conversion and 10 is just a "bruh" being a douche nozzle.
