I sucked at them too. This helps you with your weaknesses.

Ron, you're blue belt BJJ? Very nice. Any big timers at your BJJ school?

Not so much. I trained with (been out a little over a month now due to a foot injury that I don't want to make worse) Carmine Zocchi who's a black-belt under Marcelo Melo.

The school I train at is a stand-up school. Me and a few other guys use him as our ground-coach, and follow him to the diff. school's he teaches at. He's got a fight team, and a few of the dudes i've rolled with were great, no big names.

He used to teach at Rhino which if I recall correctly puts out a lot of fighters.

Dang it. Slack for a few weeks and WODs are killer. I did a Nancy puppy last night and then went to the park with my daughter and I couldn't get off the bench.

3 rounds
400yd run
15 overhead squat 45#

It's weak but I was sore from my 2 mile job from the day before.

OH squats vs standard/DB in front of chest squat are completely diff.

OH squat requires ton's of core and stability , and keeping that bar locked out, and directly overhead is a workout on it's own.

Front squats with a bar I have some trouble with as far how to hold it so tips are appreciated. I finally figured out OHS's as I had kept my grip to narrow. Wide grip FTW.

I used to do FGB but I didn't have a row machine at my gym so I would do cable rows. Didn't bother with score.

You need to hold a rack position. I.E Elbows out in front pointing directly froward. With a front squat, you can essentially rest the bar on just 2 fingers and most of the weight will rest on your front-delts. After you squat down, on your way up you want to drive your elbows up along with your legs.

OH squats aren't meant to be done with a narrow grip. A general rule of thumb is you hold the bar with a snatch grip, or a wide grip. You lift your knee up, if the bar does not move, your at a good width. If the bar moves up too much, your grip is to narrow. You want to make sure your knees travel over the line/outside of your feet. You can push your head forward, and ass out for extra balance, so long as the bar is directly over your feet. Keep the weight on your heels.

crossfit HQ has great videos in the exercise&demo section.

Yeah I watched the vids for the O-lifts and a lot on deadlift because I have trouble with that. I get the concept and the positioning but I think I need to go to a gym to get a class on nothing but d/l's. I clean and snatch fine. I didn't focus a lot on front squats and OHS but I probably should've. At least I know how to do OHS and next time front squats come up, I'll read your post again and some vids.

I've wanted to train a couple people at my house but I'm not a licensed trainer or anything. I have the knowledge and experience of proper form (other than my front squat LOL) that I can get people to lose weight. My wife has dropped 2 sizes with some of the routines I gave her. I'm thinking it's a state law thing on what I can train or not train. Do you know how that works?

Technically you can do whatever you want, but you are liable.

Your safest bet is to get certified, and get insured.

What if I made a contract as a "consultant" and wording it how I won't be liable for injury like how gyms do. I don't expect much clientele before going through the whole trouble of getting a license.

not sure, not hired as one yet.

Depends on the affiliate.

I'm assuming they get paid per class taught, anywhere from 40 and up sounds reasonable to me.

As for me bringing in clients to train at the CrossFit box I workout at - not sure how that would work.

That's the beginner package.

Check out the Group Class packages - this is what the majority of people do - and there's a variety of times for you to choose from. All classes are relatively small and you get plenty of attention.

6 month unlimited classes a week is 150 a month. WELL WORTH IT.

You also get a week free.

Yes, that's me on the home page , Ron

Although a little expensive, once you start there, you won't want to stop. This isn't a BS health club where people are standing around idle. You WILL work and you WILL get in shape. I think Ron is a good example. He looks like one of the dudes from 300 who also did that style workout. The testimony from people that do CF is for real. I've seen changes and everyone I know that has done it has loved it and seen changes. At least try it out a few times and go from there.

I would LOVE to do that, but I can't afford that right now I don't even have a job at the moment. Not to mention I'm in my absolute worst physical condition that I've ever been in

Cant put a price on fitness my friend. No better time than now - when you have the money - come.

There's a few boxes in Manhattan as well. Black Box being the most famous. Prices are all the same more or less between affiliates.

I'm such a slacker. I've been so busy with the kids and other stuff that I haven't worked out since like September. People say I don't look like I gained a lot but I've put on like 10 lbs.

Congrats. What were the routines?

FYI, I finally started back up this week after 6 mos and 30lbs. Did a routine that took like 20 mins 2 days ago and I'm still in agonizing pain.

Nice man

Workout 1
max reps of 155lb overhead. (bar starts on ground).
8 rounds. Each round is 1 minute, and begins with a short run (50-100m).
(placed 34th)

Workout 2
40 HSPU
40 front squats at 155.
(placed 8th)

Workout 3
Fight Gone Bad - (95lb snatch instead of 75lb push press, 75lb SDHP)
(placed 89th - this one sucked for me)

Workout 4
3 attempts at 5 rep max DL
(placed 65 - 345lbs - there was room to go, but back was hurting bad and I didn't want to risk anything. It took a while to recover after this WOD).

Workout 5
135lb sled push (50-60m)
18 double unders
4 muscle ups
5 rounds for time
(placed 33rd).

God even when I was in shape, I couldn't touch this.

Workout 1
max reps of 155lb overhead. (bar starts on ground). Was this overhead squat, shoulder press, push press?
8 rounds. Each round is 1 minute, and begins with a short run (50-100m).
(placed 34th)

Workout 2
40 HSPU
40 front squats at 155.
(placed 8th) Awesome that you placed so high. Those front squats I always had trouble with.

After all the other workouts I'd be dead

Workout 5
135lb sled push (50-60m)
18 double unders
4 muscle ups
5 rounds for time
(placed 33rd).And MU's to kill you off
