Transmission Update

I have a 2012 FWD auto and I don't feel any of the juddering or see any tach hunting that others are experiencing, however when I give it a little gas in D to pass someone the transmission feels like it takes too long to downshif. I went to get the airbag recall done and asked my dealer about the new transmission update. They said that I shouldn't do it if I don't feel anything wrong. Should I update it or not?

The juddering/hunting is caused by poor fluid that has deteriorated too fast and hasn't been changed out. The software update keeps the transmission of certain conditions that put extra stress/wear on the fluid. I'd honestly just change the fluid out sooner and wait until a few more folks get the update. That's my plan as a few of the 6spd MDX folks don't like the trans after the software update that was done last.

As my feeling, software update does not help. the transmission fluid still deteriorates fast. After fluid change and software update, two tanks of gas later, the judder came back.

This indicates damage to the torque converter and you should take the car back asap!

I haven't experienced those symptoms but my dealer had already gone and done the software update. The transmission does feel a lot more responsive and smoother than before. The recall also includes an ATF flush. You should also be changing out the ATF filter and doing a flush periodically.

the judder and maybe droning feeling before and after update, the most obvious scenario is that around 40 miles per hour, the transmission shifts very quick to higher gear, the rpm drops to 1100, at that moment judder and droning. just like driving a manual car, low speed too high gear.

is it indicating damage on TC also? I do not have any hesitation on gear change and tauc hunting

So would updating help the downshift lag?

I had the judder problem when I purchased my 2012 FWD which seems to have been fixed with the TSB update along with the fluid change provided by the dealer. I've since drained and refilled the tranny twice and it feels wonderful now. However, it hasn't changed anything in terms of transmission response when downshifting. It's admittedly a bit on the slow end when needing to downshift suddenly like on the highway or something.
