I have a 2013 TL and I sit in the front passenger seat most of the time. I can't wait until it's replaced. I'd pay to get it replaced if I could. However, I think we have to wait quite a bit so the older cars get taken care of.

Not really thrilled. Was hoping it would be this year.

So i spoke to one of the guys over at the NJ dealer about when I can bring the car back for the airbag recall (i was originally there for the Torque Converter Software Update Recall lol) and he said that they estimate at least another year for me. this is definitely going to take a while unfortunately...

Oh great!

What was the Torque Converter Software Update recall? I didn't get anything like that for my TL.

It was more of a TSB for owners that felt a "judder" while driving between 20 - 40 mph so there is a software update to help correct this.

Thanks for providing the information!! I was out of the states with no real access to the forums haha. Yeah sorry it wasn't recall per say. What was provided was exactly the notice they sent me.

Sorry for the confusion!

unbelievable. 50% chance of the inflators going off on impact on those 2002/03 cars???

I no longer have the 2002 Acura TL; though I did have the inflators replaced a couple of times...

Sounds like they are desperate to find the owners who haven't gotten theirs fixed. It's hard to believe there are still so many that aren't fixed. Don't people hear the news? Read their mail? Geesh.

Unhappy Passenger side bags?

Does anyone have an update regarding the passenger side airbags for 2009-2014 TLs? My dealer insists that the passenger side airbag does not require replacement. I don't believe them. And what about the side air-bags?

I agree, I don't get it, the first chance you get you should have it replaced.. But IMO it's really not too hard to believe that so many vehicles still aren't fixed.

For example, I know someone with a Toyota that's affected by this recall. He rec'd his first noticed approx a year ago and has yet to have it replaced or even contacted his dealer. When I recently saw him I asked if he had it replaced yet and he told me he hasn't had a chance. I just shook my head.

I'm pretty sure there are more examples like this out there, some people just don't take this seriously..

Agreed. One of my best friends, who is a really smart, successful guy has a BMW that is affected and driven a lot by his wife has still not had it replaced. Many recalls are not that serious so I guess this is just getting lumped in to that category. Dealerships STILL don't think its a big deal. SMH.

I was also told the same thing by my dealer last week. After all this time of hearing "they are on the way", now I'm being told there is "no problem with the passenger side airbags and a recall will NOT be forthcoming".

WTF?! I don't believe them for a second. WHY would the same manufacturer use a different process for the other airbags produced at the same time? This is bullish!t, plain and simple. I feel screwed by Acura and worried every time I have a front seat passenger.

I'll never purchase another Honda product again in my life.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish the U.S. Government were fallowing up with this more. I feel the ball is being dropped here by Honda/Acura

Your choice, but based on what you've written above, your issue is with the dealer, not with Honda/Acura. And honestly, the dealer likely knows nothing about how the inflators are made, and what factors will influence the likelihood of failure or recall on passenger modules. I suspect, like me, you have limited knowledge in that regard also, so your assumptions are, I suspect, just that; assumptions. But the point is, don't be angry at "Honda" because a dealer told you something you disagree with. They know very little. And when I say "dealer", that very well might mean simply one car salesman.

But by all means, boycott Honda/Acura. Do let us know when you have found a manufacturer that has not used Takata airbags.

Takata “Alpha” Airbag Inflator PSA
http://www.kaltura.com/index.php/ext...def/embed/auto

August 29, 2017

Today, American Honda is launching a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) aimed at reaching owners of Honda and Acura vehicles with unrepaired Takata “Alpha” airbag inflators.

As part of American Honda’s commitment to our customers, we have designed and implemented numerous outreach tools to motivate vehicle owners to complete airbag inflator recalls.

The PSA, titled “We Care,” features an emotional message from American Honda associates stressing the importance of repairing recalled vehicles, with a special focus on Alpha VINs.

The video has been posted on American Honda’s YouTube page. The company will also send an email with a link to the video directly to Alpha VIN owners for whom American Honda has email addresses.

It is important to note that you may receive additional appointment requests and other inquiries once the PSA is released.

Please take the opportunity to view the PSA by clicking the link below.

Hi,

I watched the video in the above link. I assume that it's talking about driver-side airbags. Is that true?

What about the passenger-side airbags? Have they started replacing those yet?

Also, I found it interesting that apparently some large number of replacement airbags were not installed correctly. How would anyone know this until it was too late?

IMO it's crazy that this many years after the initial recall Honda still has to contact over 10 million people to bring in their vehicles. Even crazier IMO is that Honda has to put 575 field reps on the ground, walking through neighborhoods trying get people to bring in their vehicles to repair an issue that could kill them... WTF don't these people understand???

I contacted my local Acura Dealership in regards to this recall about 2 weeks ago and the representative told me my vehicle did not fall under this repair because it was "out of warranty" after some a respectful choice words about the issue i decided to call back another day. This next rep was much more helpful and said "Oh yeahof course, your safety is the biggest priority, no appointment necessary, its a recall and we will take care of it." Needless to say all was taken care of!

Hey guys, there hasn't been any update since Sept, I'd like to know if the airbag inflator on the passenger side of my 4G TL needs to be replaced too? I read about this when I had my driver side's replaced. I've asked dealer about the passenger side recently but they said mine didn't need one.

Any thoughts?
