My car wash drama.
front tire came off the track, and this is the result.
was told that my tires are too wide, it looks bad but the only damage was my front plate and holder.when this happened i started to cry because i thought my baby would have to go to a body shop. i made love to her that night in the garage

bullshit your tires are too wide. they look practically stock width... did they drive it into the wash?
i never take my car into those thigns with the tracks... i'll do a touch free wash where you drive in and the machine goes aroudn your car and never touches it...but those tracks have been known to damage wheels...
make them fix anything wrong with your car.

There was no damage to my car just the plate and holder but the operations manager gave me a $100 gas card for my trouble
The guy behind the counter tried to blame me but we reviewed the video and the wheels were in the track when i entered the wash.

Glad it wasn't worse, but the damage those "swirl-a-matic" brushes inflict on your paint finish are probably more of a concern. As somebody mentioned, consider those "touch-less" washes if you have to use an automated wash facility.

What size tires are you using ?

That car wash looks improperly designed. Those orange bits don't look like they are good enough to hold the car on the track.

I always wondered if situations like this could possibly happen, guess I have my answer I call bullshit on the tire width excuse, I've run wider tires thru similar rails with no issues.

Good thing you're storing it for the winter so it remains in pristine condition.

LMAO...I hope you have additional money for the added car payments when the little ones arrive, unless you thought about protection in advance.
Seriously though...a 225 is too wide? I'd go in there and throw a full slurpee in that asshole's face and then report him to corporate/management.

Glad your car is ok. My question is: Why are you running 225/50/18 on your SH when factory size is 245/45/18? Loosing traction.

He'd actually have a bit more traction on the straights...he'd only lose traction on the curves (which is important enough). OP is in Toronto, and is likely ready for winter, thus the thinner tire.

i see your problem.. if you ran 245/45/18, this issue wouldnt happen....
oh and also the fact that you took it into those types of car washes... that could have contributed to this incident

Using thinner tires will also increase the stopping distance, especially in emergency situations with which stopping a few feet shorter can prevent an expensive trip to the body shop.

OUCH! Glad it wasn't too terrible.
I've only had bad experiences with the car washes that have those raised bars to guide the wheels. The only automated ones I used are the ones that have the recessed lever mechanism to detect if the car is in position or not. Then I don't worry about the car catching the car wash or anything.

sorry to hear
You probably have nice indentations on your front bumper from the license plate bracket.

Except that in his other thread he is trying to prep his car to store it for the winter. Not that it really makes sense. Personally, I would be a lot more worried about the brushes in the automatic car wash marring the paint than winter road conditions.

Sliding into the back of a pickup truck is much worse for one's paint than an automatic wash.

Just to clear the air guys:
Yes am an idiot for taking my car through a touch wash
Yes am an idiot for having 225 on my car and yes am an idiot for storing my car for the winter. Post pics of the scratches on your car from a touch wash, if you can't then your just getting on the band wagon.
Please don't drive on the highway because your car will get stone chips
The wheels came with the car after i bought it used, some people are so concerned with me storing my car for winter but why do you care man?
this is why lots of people don't post because of the negative comments, aren't we here to help our fellow TL owners?
Some people act like they do everything by the book But my question to the negative crowd is ...why do you care what i do with my car?
I posted just to share my experience with you guys but this forum is filled with car gurus and pros that do it by the books.

Nobody said you're an idiot. I don't have pictures of scratches from a car wash because I don't take my cars through car washes. I've compounded and polished micro marring out of cars too many times to even think about doing that. And yes, automated touch car washes do scratch paint. Not full on gashes through to the metal but you can see the marring in the clear coat. Hop onto a forum like AutoGeek.com and you can see plenty of evidence of it. Here's some advice for you, if you're going to store it for winter, do some research on detailing. (Proper washing methods, compound, polish, wax, sealants, clay bar, coatings). Nothing will protect your paint like a quality coating and it's pretty easy to do once you know how to properly prep the car. If you want to keep your car looking nice, the best thing you can do is learn the art of detailing it yourself. I promise you will never look at an automated car wash the same way again.

Hey Stacks......Hang in man. There are folks here who desire to help without being overly critical. I am not a fan of the "touch" car washes and TRY to avoid them, but there are times when, for me, getting the winter salty brine off of my cars takes complete precedence over anything else and if the "touch" is the only option, then I use them. That makes me an idiot as well I guess.
