  1. average MPG of 40mpg
  2. acceleration 0-60 of 7.5 seconds or less
  3. A touch screen GPS - a joystick thing on the console is fine as long as touch is an option as well.
  4. Better sound insulation

To be clear I don't want a car with an average mpg of 40 and an acceleration of 0-60 in 11 seconds or an average mpg of 27 and 0-60 in 6 seconds; it has to have good acceleration AND mpg. HP seems to be a key thing for most people on this forum - I just care about how fast it accelerates - I don't need to tow a yacht with my vehicle.
Well for starters,

-Your not getting 40mpg average with AWD.

-7.5 seconds or less? You know that right now its under 6 seconds, dont you?
-
if theres a joystick on the console that would mean that the GPS is embedded in the dashboard as it is right now, I dont know if youve been in it but having a touch screen option on that wouldnt work, try reaching your gps while driving and typing things in. Not ergonomical at all.

I dont know if your just trying to trash the TL right now but its actually rated #1 upscale mid sized sedan. It doesnt lead the pack in any category but is easily above average in every category.

Sorry for going off topic but if you dont like the TL its all opinion but to say its a bad car is absolute nonesense.

X2. There is no car out today that can touch anywhere near 40 mpg with AWD period.

The TL is probably the closest thing and it can do 28-32 mpg with a easy foot and AWD.

Close enough to the requirement is the Chevrolet Volt.

0-60mph in 8.5 secs, and 40mpg highway gas mileage.

My 09 AWD TL no way could get that high, best case 25-26 more likely 24-25 I was able to get reasonably.

I see 29 on a recent trip with no issues.

The 300h isn't too far from that - currently about 40 mpg with acceleration of about 8sec. With some tweaking I'd expect it at that by 2014. You are correct, there are a number of cars such as BMW makes and Tesla that meet that criteria but they are a tad out of my price comfort zone. The Lexus is in that range and I'm sure if Acura tried they could make something that could compete.

Thanks, that AWD is really important to me because I live in Los Angeles

I know it currently has great acceleration and crappy gas mileage. You know I'd like it to have both great acceleration and great gas mileage, don't you?

My current GPS that my TL came equipped with is touch screen and I find it far more ergonomically acceptable than a joystick gui.

I would have bought a new TL if it was as much technologically advanced bang for the buck as my old TL. I'm pointing out what I want - not what you want to hear. My hope is that Acura gets their ducks in a row again and doesn't release another flop like the current gen TL. The 2nd and 3rd gen TL were great IMHO.

Because of the location of your GPS. If you have the GPS set back deep into the dashboard its impossible to be able to get any praticality out of a touch screen. I completely understand, everyone is entitled to an opinion but to say that the TL is a "bad" car is not really fair. Its just not your cup of tea. Also, in MY opinion I think comparing the 300h is like comparing apples to oranges

I've been in the current TL, I find it no more difficult to reach the screen in it than I do my current TL so I have a hard time following your logic particularly when I suggested that both inputs be allowed - why would you want to restrict people from having something just because you don't want it?

I wouldn't say the TL is a completely bad car - just a far cry from the bang for the buck that it used to be. My 2nd gen was never a head turner but it wasn't ugly, it was competitive with just about any luxury car for MPG and the GPS was ahead of the competition. I'll admit the BOSE blows but they did finally fix that issue by using another manufacturer.

If the TLX will offer a hybrid model as suggested, I'm not sure how it is a comparison of apples to oranges? What would be an apples to apples comparison?

Seriously - would you want a Chevy Volt?

While the Lexus ES 300h has better acceleration than the volt the Lexus is WAY more luxurious.

I just was reading about the Lexus IS 300h and I wouldn't be surprised if it has acceleration under 8 seconds and it should get about 50mpg.

I think you got it backward.

IMHO the TL is better bang for your buck now than it was before.....earlier generations did not really offer that much more compared to a lower priced Nissan Maxima.

I recently test drove a 300h and was rather disappointed. I briefly owned a 2007 Camry Hybrid and I expected more form the Lexus 300h. The braking was rough as you felt the transition form regenerative braking to physical braking. I also could not find a comfortable seating position and I hate wooden steering wheels. Also a loaded 300h is $50K, considering I can get a TL Advance AWD for $41-42K I don't think the 300h is going to save me $8K in gas. My rough math says it would take 3 years for me to justify the almost $3K premium of the 300h over ES350, so with the extra $4k+ I can have some fun in the TL or even my M37.

Yes, I hear they are working on the breaking for the 2014 model. I agree about he steering wheel - I checked on the lexus forum and you can get an all leather steering wheel according to them but most come with the wooden one which I don't like either.

I agree the ES is more expensive but I also think in a number of ways it is a more refined car but I also understand having a budget target for a new car.

...TLX, is a car yet to be produced. I love the way the touchscreen was axed due to safety concerns, but then allowed by American manufactures rather quickly after that was done. I never cared too much for the TL until the 4G, the later iterations of the 3G came around a bit. Initially looked to much like the used bar of soap T-birds. The line-up needs a coupe, badly.
