3G TL-S or 4G 6SPD-AWD?

I am scared of the way Honda has been redesigning their cars recently.
Civic was a disaster, it looks SO cheap from the inside and OK from the outside, the Accord interior spy shots so far are hideous and the new Acura ILX has a cheap interior too but a decent exterior thankfully.

IMHO, if there was a 3rd gen TL-S I would have bought it if it had low miles over my new 2012 4th gen. But I do love my 4th gens. Both are great cars and a little more refined vs the 3rd gen.

I do not have a 4g 6 speed. However, I have a 4g SH and had a previous base 3g and 3g Type-s. The type-s by far was my favorite ride. To me it picked up faster in speed and had a sportier look than the present 4G. On the other hand the 4g makes you feel as if you are riding in a luxury car. they both have their pluses and negatives. So it all depends as to what you are looking for.

+1 - I am counting days to see the 2014 and IF I like it, I'll trade my 2011 for it.

FWIW I went from a '07 TL-S to a '10 TL SH-AWD 6MT, and I have not regretted it at all. Yes the 3g TL-S was/is a cool car, but IMHO the driving experience of the 4g TL is (a) a more comfortable daily drive and (b) (with the SH-AWD + 6MT) a more dynamic/engaging drive as well. Try taking a 25MPH off-ramp curve at 55MPH in the 3G and you will know what I mean. I also give the edge in looks to the 4G, although 99% of the human race disagrees. I like the 4G TL better from the rear and sides, the 3G TL better from the front, plus I like the 4G TL wheels better than the 3G TL-S wheels.

I have very sticky summer tires on my 3G 6MT, coupled with 24mm RSB and stiff shocks!!!
I have no doubt in my mind, that the SHAWD 6MT would be the more fun of the two.
because if you keep pushing the two, one will hit the limit first..care to guess which one!?!?!??
plus, you have CVT...ewwwwww lol

no, the AWD system will kick the FWD 3G's ass in a corner.

Hmm, I don't agree. I took some pretty hairy turns and the TL-S was a bit floating and unstable especially when I took it to the track. The 4th gen SH-AWD does not show this at all.

Other than individually based subjective qualities, I can't see why the 3G is better than the 4G as a whole. I went from a 04 6MT A-spec to a 07 TLS 6MT and now have a 4G, also 6MT. As much of an upgrade the type S was from the 04-06, the SH is even more compared to a TLS.
Aside from just being newer and having more modern features added and old ones upgraded, it's also dynamically superior, handles better at the limits, more neutral, no more torque steer, superior all weather versatility, and it's a bit more mild in sports demeanor, which I think is the point despite not being less capable as a whole.
The ride is a bit more compliant, the cabin and chassis are more solid, and it seems quieter to me, it's a higher quality vehicle as a whole. There are some downsides but they are really more like trade offs and they're so insignificant that I can't remember what they all are.

I went from a 07 type-s 6speed stock then had coilovers to a 10 sh-awd 6spd stock then coilovers. The 40-80mph pulls feel about the same but the 4g does it much smoother, under 40mph the 4g feels slightly faster. The tl-s got about 4 mpg better due to the awd and had bixenon headlights rather than just low beam on the 4g.
The 4g interior, sound system and quality of parts and handling trumps the 3g type-s.

CVT comment was that an insult? fail...
I am not questioning if one is better then the other as its comparing apples to oranges but to say one is better in cornering then the other BECAUSE its AWD is plain ignorant. AWD doesnt make the car better but then again this is the 4g section and everyone is going to say it is.
Its like asking is the 3g better then the 4g in the 3g section... lol

I own an 09 SH-AWD 5AT and an 07-TL-S 5AT. The 3G feels quicker in acceleration, but the 4G is deceptively fast.
The creature comfort / cabin / luxury comparison is hands down 4G as a winner. The 4G TL was a compromise between staying sporty and delivering flagship luxury since they weren't going to redesign the RL. ON the positive, you get the luxury features and comforts of their flagship car, on the negative side, you get the weight and bulk.
The 4G AWD is a much more comfortable to drive car. The steering and drive feel is much less reactive/noisy and more comfortable.
If you want something to feel every twitch in the road - and be more connected, the 3G is superior. If you're wanting to up the ante on luxury/comfort and still stay connected to sporty - the 4G is fine.
Bear in mind that the 5G's high end powertrain option is likely going to be a 305hp 3.5L direct injected V6 supplemented by 65 combined total HP of hybrid drive on the trans and at the rear corners, will likely not have a manual gearbox option, and will only be offered with a 6 or 7 speed double clutch paddle shift. We all know how well Honda does with first year transmission changes......so I'm somewhat apprehensive while watching the development of this new powerplant and trans.

The TL is based on the Accord - and the new TL always comes out a year after the Accord.
* 03 Accord was the first 7G, a year later in 04 the redesigned 3G TL came out.
* 08 was the first year of the 8G Accord, a year later in 09 the 4G TL came out.
Honda says that the new Accord is coming in 2014, so I wouldn't expect a new TL until 2015. I also am willing to bet that they're not going to throw the Advanced SH-AWD drivetrain in the TL even for 2015. If they did, there would be no reason to buy the RLX. RLX and NSX will get Adv. SH-AWD, TL will stay with SH-AWD. That's my bet.

I've autcorossed my 2G CL-S6M and my 09 SH-AWD. No contest.
The CLS6M hands down better on the straights for quick acceleration because of the weight mainly.
The SH-AWD devours the corners. It's better than a helical diff. You don't nose dive. You brake less on entry and you don't lose power to torque steering/sliding on the exit - power down and it sticks and pulls through the apex hard. Corner exit speeds I'd say are at least 10mph faster on similar courses once you learn how to throw the big girl around.
My times are 8 seconds better on the same course in the AWD. This car is schooling BMWs on wet tracks in the GT series races. SH-AWD is for real.

^then why are you even here.
if there are more than 2 people disagreeing with you, here's an idea....YOU MIGHT BE WRONG!! lol
the FWD platform has its limits.
the FWD will naturally understeer.
PSeudo shaved off 8 seconds off his lap time with the AWD platform.
