Headlight/Foglight Bulb Matching

Hey AZ

Was doing some searching but hard to come up with a complete list.

I want to match my DRL and fog light bulbs with my HIDs

Does anyone have a guide on which bulbs to replace the stock ones with?

Thanks!

Matching DRL's and fogs to your HID's hard to do because the HID is behind a projector which gives off a different color. You can get close though.

Factory HID's are 4300k and D2S bulbs.
Factory Foglights are H11
Factory DRL's are 9005.

Keep in mind that the DRL's share the same bulb as the high beam so you may lose the high beans when swapping out the bulb.

Cool thanks Carbon

So you'd recommend seeking out a 4300k bulb for both?

Any suggestions on brands? Has anyone found a 9005/4300k bulb that keeps high beams?

I have 6k D2S and H11 from HIDeXtra | HID, LED, Xenon Vehicle Headlight Kits & Bulbs. I've had my fair share of issues with their products but customer service is top notch. I don't have an exact match between fogs/low beams (for the reason Carbon stated) but it's pretty close depending on the angle you're viewing them from. I also have the TSX-R lenses and IMO that helps a bit with the match since they're clear compared to OEM. Other mods include removal of DRL fuse and taped off terminal on turn signals (so they only illuminate when signaling).

Here is my setup prior to TSX-R lenses:

Here it is with 6k low beams and 5k fogs (I've switched back to 6k fogs b/c 5k was just too white):

I'd like to do this mod too! Is there a DIY guide or can you provide some step by step instructions?

I'd appreciate it

1. Remove bulb.
2. Tape over one of the contacts (they are bumps on the bottom of the bulb)
3. Reinstall bulb.
4. Check if signals work, if they don't then pull the bulb and tape off the other contact instead.

It's not easy matching your HID projector with non projector DRLs and fogs. If you want to match everything, it would be best to replace all bulbs. I have yet to see any LED that matches the 4300k HID. You can purchase 5000k LEDs that will be close, but not a match. You could purchase a replacement 5k HID bulb paired with a 5k projector fog lamp housing (morimoto). You could swap out your DRL for 5k LED light, but most likely will loose your high beam function. MY RDX operates the same way and I am on the same quest as you.

I am officially subscribed to your quest.

I live close to The Retrofit Source, maybe I can just drive up and threaten not to leave until they can get it right.

^ I believe a TL owner on here posted up some pictures of Osram CBI 5k HIDs paired with Morimoto 5k LED fog lights and I think they are matching in terms of light color, or at least close enough that you can't really tell much difference. I thought I had the thread saved, but I couldn't find it quickly. The thread was created to show the Morimoto fog lights, and later mentioned he has the Osram HIDs. A quick search could yield you the thread.
