G-001: 4G Custom Headlights by JnC

Here are some pics of the guts of my 4G headlights, I am looking to do some customization and wanted to get some ideas from other posters about what they would do. JnC is working on the headlights for me, and has snapped a few photos. I am leaning towards blacking them out, but I want to hear other suggestions.

With the color of your car, I think it would look better without the black. Just
with that amber out, it will look a 1000 times better, and you are adding the halos too, right?
Im not sure if there is enough space, but I would do LEDs for the blinkers on the front bumper.

Yeah game plan is for angel eyes, upgraded lens, phillips bulbs, switchbacks for blinkers on front bumber, and amber led's for headlight signal.

I'd love to see something that looks like the new Audi headlight designs. Now that's a car from that catches my attention.

quite easy honestly, I am not the fix it type person, I am not extremely handy, and I was able to complete in about 1.5 hours. I was also working very slow making sure I did everything right. I found the online instructions for installing the front body kit, which gives details on the bumper removal. On a scale of 1-10 on difficulty, I would give it a 3.

I think the audi LED DRL would look good on this design of headlight, wouldnt black them out on that particular color. Id leave the amber out too. Everything else you mentioned sounds good.

Curious to what they quoted you to black out the chrome all over your car? Are they going to remove the pieces and paint, or use a vinyl overlay to black it out?

Metallic on metallic IMO is the perfect match. Here in So Cali black housing projectors are commonly seen on Civics, along with APC rear lights. It used to look cool at first, but now it's turning kind of ghetto.

I sorted out the projector optics today so painting the bezel comes next, for anyone interested, i tried the following clear lenses

Valeo D2S
E30
S2000
TSX

Out of all of them the TSX one is the one that gained the best results.

4G TL projector is a huge step backwards compared to the bi-xenon 3G TL, not only due to the fact that you loose the bi-xenon function but also when it comes to output but with the lens swap and a few other tweaks I was able to get a very sharp beautiful cut off

Here are some pictures of the projector etc, one of the cool headlight theft deterrent thing is that each headlight is bolted to the chassis not only with bolts but there is a steel wire, shown in pictures below, that loops around the ballast and is also bolted to the frame making it almost impossible to pry the headlight off in once piece.

OEM foggy/cloudy lens

Compare the above to the clear TSX one

So it looks like the TSX cover is almost plug/plug? Any pricing on doing this swap? I need the amber gone, and that foggy OEM looks horrid.

Good stuff, did you buy a 2nd pair of headlights? Or is your car temporarily off the street?

Here is what I am thinking as far as painting the bezel

Details,

everything that is silver will be painted unless I specify in my description below.

1. Leave these ridges silver.
2. These ridges can be removed as shown in the pictures on top of this page, so I plan on leaving them silver as well.
3. Leave the chrome bezel chrome.
4. Take out the amber diffuser and reveal the chrome reflector underneath.
5. This strip is chrome and I plan on leaving it in tact whilst painting around it.

Color choices are

1. Flat (matte) black.
2. Glossy black.

Looks like a good plan, I like the idea of leaving some of the ridges silver, I think it will provide a good contrast. What are your thoughts on the Chrome reflector, leaving it chrome or painting it black?

Chrome for sure, as you can see in the following picture that the whole piece is chrome, you cant really tell as there is a dark reflection showing in the picture.

I experimented a bit today, the chrome reflector has a silver parting and then the thin chrome strip (numbered 5 in the above picture), I masked off everything chrome and painted that silver bit glossy black so that its easier to distinguish between the chrome reflector and the chrome strip (#5).

If you guys have any other ideas then post them as this is only a rough plan for now.

I skipped the idea of not painted the ridges in front of hi beam, reason being that masking them off was getting a pain in the ass. I masked them and painted everything yet after taking off the mask it just didnt look right.

IMO the glossy black set up is going give the front of the car a killer look, what do you guys think?

Thumbs up Done

09 TL headlights
Blacked out V2 (again, version 1 would be where I'd paint the whole parking light area black)
Clear lens swap and modified OEM projectors
