Acura TL class action lawsuit oil consumption

Who is willing to join a class action lawsuit in regards to the abnormal oil consumption with the 4G Acura TL...I'm personally using up a couple of quarts between oil changes on my 2010 TL-SHAWD. Others have successfully sued Audi and Honda over similar issues. What do you all think?

Count me in. Acura knows the issue exist but refuses to have any voluntary action to correct it.

Acura tl class action lawsuit oil consumption

I'm down. Should we alert the NHTSA? They are getting real strict now...just ask Chrysler!

Wait a second.

Audi vehicles are known to be engine oil burners for decades.

Has there been any class action lawsuit on Audi excessive oil consumption, and what was the outcome ?

Considering this is an issue across other Acura models as well, this thread may be better suited in another subforum. You'd likely get a lot more replies.

Audi is currently rebuilding 2.0T engines because of that suit.

I noticed excessive burn at 43k, might've been happening before that, you don't get a light on the dash until you're literally empty or have already caused damage (stupid design).

That's a good question, I don't really know. Maybe Car Talk?

I only suggested it because I've seen other oil consumption threads recently (click here or here).

Just spoke to my friend about this yesterday. It's affecting Audi's 2.0T 4 cylinder engine. Some owners (not sure what percentage) have been successful in getting their piston rings rebuilt.

Check out this recent CAL on Subaru for oil consumption. Looks like we could have a viable suit on our hands.

Okay, who here has went to the dealership and asked to start an oil consumption test?

Just started mine and I would say there Honda/Acura is doing something about this.

It could be different outside Central Ohio, but the Dealership in Marysville, Ohio is doing this with many V6 Honda cars/SUVs.

I've had excellent luck calling Acura Client Relations. They contacted the Service Manager and worked out a out of warranty deal for my clutch master cylinder replacement.

Some members have done oil consumption tests and have had their engines replaced... the engine design remains the same... the issues will represent themselves again after some time of course. 30 to 40k mark

Who has completed an oil consumption test? What were the results? Do you still have the paper work? I talked to a lawyer today who will begin the review process for a class action lawsuit , and of course they will need documentation. Anyone willing to send in their results? Or anything documented in regards to oil consumption even if it was just a complaint while servicing your tl? Email me or private message me... jprieto27@gmail.com

I get it, just wanted to make sure I gave my 2cents. Own 4 Acura's and my 2010 SH ( J37 ) is the only one I have to worry about oil.
I am sick of having to worry about this myself.

My wife has a 07 TL base and it doesn't burn a drop. ( J32 )

I'll share once I get some results.

I have completed the oil consumption test of 1,000mile eval. Dealership claims after the 1,000 mile test the "oil was a little lower but within normal limits." I then returned to the dealership a few weeks later showing them the low oil light came on. Dealership then wanted me to show them my recent oil change receipts I had done at an Indie before they would go any further. Even after showing them oil change receipts, they still wanted me to authorize ~$800 payment to tear down the engine in case it was not engine related and it was my fault.

At that point I was furious b/c they already had me replace the engine oil pressure sensor (which they claimed it was faulty) at my cost. Replacing that sensor did nothing.

Acura Client Relations did nothing to help. I've left multiple messages with Acura HQ, which they never returned.

Check out my thread here on AZ. I've documented my frustrations.

Having gone through this with Audi, my advice is to save all receipts pertaining to the oil issue. Should you wind up with a court case, you will have evidence of the oil usage and should get reimburced in the end.

I'd be in. Just came back from a trip about 800 miles round trip. And noticed about half a quart of oil loss running 5w-20 full syn. 80k miles though

I'd be in. Question for you guys: how long do you think the engine would last (i.e. how many miles) even with the abnormal oil consumption issues we are having?

When you say "short block", do you mean the entire engine block minus the crank, pistons, connecting rods? Or just one bank?

What's the eta and how much out of pocket? I'm curious because I'm doing the oil test now too.

Also, how much oil did you burn to determine this?

I had my short block replaced about a month ago. It was the entire engine minus the components you mentioned. I still check my oil every week and am happy to say I'm not burning oil anymore. I also don't have the soot buildup I used to have on my tailpipes

Question for anyone that had the short block replaced.

Did the dealership extend your warranty, or is there a warranty on the work?

I feel very uneasy thinking about some random tech in my engine bay setting my crank bearings on a time schedule... That could spell some serious issues down the line. I'd rather just price out Evans tuning or something for a rebuild and know the quality is there...

Just my 2 cents
