4G Owners. Would you ever buy a 5G TLX or wait for 6G ?

I cross shopped the 4G TL and the 5G TLX.
I liked the exterior styling of the TLX, the jewel headlights and I guess the fact that it would be NEW. There are some things I liked about the interior, the super clear gauges, the mini GPS between the tach and speedo, the navigation seemed pretty nice and the controls on the steering wheel were cool.
I didnt like the seats, the multiple lcd screens and clunky interface, the lack of shifter in the center console, the lack of mechanical buttons for simple things like heated seats, the thin-ish steering wheel, and the drive of the car just felt ...meh. Not to mention the jumpy transmission.
And perhaps the biggest deal breaker for me, no manual transmission.

I think unless they were to come out with a Type S version, I would probably wait until the 6G TLX. Now of course if they fix a lot of the things I have issues with, maybe 4-5 years from now I would get one.

there still wouldnt be a 6MT in the type-s version.
so, your deal breaker would still hold true.

and yes, a lot of 4G owners have already moved to the TLX.

Same here, would never make that move since there's no MT option.

Also, I haven't sat in a TLX but from what I've read it's considerably smaller than the 4G...so that's another deal breaker. I want to be able to keep my seat where it is when there's a passenger behind me and the 4G allows that. It's a big reason why I never strongly considered a 335i or G37.

The front of the TLX is killer, other than that nothing else interests me.... it seems as if they kept more of the TSX rather than fusing it.... too small and the interior isnt as nice in my opinion. I have a friend at work that went and traded in his 4G for it as soon as it came out because he loved the interior... so to each his own

Its not that much smaller, if at all. But it feels a lot more TSX than it does TL if that makes sense.
I have to say I was pretty hell bent to NEVER get a 4G TL until I actually sat in and drove a manual version. Than I was just like, man, what have I been missing. Even coming from my manual Type S. Which was my previous car obsession 3 years ago.

It feels like a upgrade from TSX and a downgrade from TL, so I wouldn't. But I would trade it in for an AWD RLX.

...and a lot did not...especially SH-AWD owners.....this is solid info from a senior Acura salesman in my area....he claims that is a way easier sale to TSX owners and 3G owners not 4G TL owners.

Some 4G TL owners do look at the RLX but a lot move to other brands.

I'll probably skip the whole TL/TLX and move to a nicer car next time like RLX (AWD non-hybrid), GS350, 5-series(528 but will get a 535 if the price is right).

Or keep the TL and get a weekend toy.

I agree with SilverJ.
The current TLX felt like a new version of TSX than TL. Not much of an upgrade except for the tech and safety.

For me, its going to be very hard to let go of TL SH-AWD Adv. (with 3.7L engine and 19" OEM rims) and replace it with the "current" TLX. Im not fully sold especially with the tranny jerky issue.

Still waiting and wishing for TLX-S though!

Are we calling it a "5G TLX"? I assumed it was simply the 1G TLX, given the general concensus that it's markedly different from the TL's of old (and, of course, the addition of the "X").

I'm moving on from Acura. They lost me a long time ago. I like my 4G, but I bought it more so for the pricing. Deeply discounted already back in March of '13. I love manual, but honestly, something with a DCT trans will be fine going forward. Most likely going to an S3 or S4 depending on how much back seat space I will need.

S3 would be my top choice for replacement of my current TL wayyyy down the road(I just got my TL last month). Although I have yet to drive it, I've driven other Audis and really like their interior/exterior and overall drive.
I believe the S-3 goes 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Now THAT would make me feel better about not having a manual.

I have a 4G TL Advance and will eventually upgrade to a TLX V6 Advance but it has to be the V6 and it must be an Advance. I'm good with FWD or SH-AWD. Going to give the TLX at least one more model year to work out the minor quirks.

The handful of 4G owners I know outside of this forum are considering the following cars for replacement: Q50, GS, 5 Series, S4, A6, CTS, Charger SRT, C Class

The TLX is definitely not in their radar.

I'm with ya bud

The 4G was a great improvement over the 3G and after I test drove the TLX it felt like "less" of a car. And I'm not a fan of the two screens either

Not bad car, love the jewel lights but not a big fan of the push button shift. Overall it just seems typical of most cars produced today.
If I had it to do all over again would still get the 4G TL and pocket the difference.

I find that a lot of TSX owners will jump to a TLX. For me as a 4th gen owner, I'd want to keep the larger size. In my case, the only sedan I'd be looking at next would be a Lexus GS, as I've noticed many TL owners have as well. That or I would jump straight into an SUV.

These are the owners Acura is trying to bring back or stay with the brand.

Owner of a '12 SH-AWD w/tech - bought new Oct '11 with 4 miles on the odo - currently at 34K miles. I have no interest in the TLX. Hoping to keep my current ride as long as she lasts.

The older I get I enjoy the comfort and ease of getting in and out of taller vehicles, and drive our MDX 99% of the time. In fact my TL hasn't moved in over a month. Most likely in a decade or so when the TL needs to be replaced I would get another truck or SUV - I think my time with sedans is close to an end. Hobbies and life activities demand more utility

This is true. Many people who owned a 3G bypassed the 4G because of the beak, negative press or whatever(even though the beak can be negated by a cheap mod or 2012 MMC) . But the reality is in AWD form, the 4G TL is a superior car to the 3G and in many ways the 5G.
Looks aside because I know that's subjective and I think *most* prefer the 5G looks overall as it blends in with most other sedans in the market.
But from an interior/performance/fun to drive perspective ? I think the 4G has a decided edge over the 5G.

Sadly for me, after 11 years with Acura and four TLs, it's time to go somewhere else.

All my initial excitement for the TLX became disappointment when I saw it and took several test-drives. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car, nothing against it. I just, like others, don't see it as the next TL but as the next TSX. Just doesn't work for me. On top of that, I'm not attracted at all by the RLX.

One more year on my lease and will probably swing for a 5-series.

Only Acurazine references the TLX as the 5G. But given that same logic you can see the real potential for the Acurazine 6G to be the TLIX. TLX and ILX combined.
Now with both offering 2.4 engines and 8 speed transmissions. If you discount a few inches in dimensions the TLIX will have of a a narrower performance equipment range than the current 3 series.

There is, at least in my experience, a good amount of circumstantial evidence that many 4G owners (especially SH-AWD) are shunning the TLX...the biggest confirm I had was talking with a very senior Acura salesman (17 years on the job, Acura Council of Sales Excellence Gold), an extremely nice guy and very knowledgeable, I would have absolutely loved to buy a car from him.

We chatted for almost one hour when I decided to test drive for fun a TLX SH-AWD few weeks ago (I test drove a FWD V6 when the TLX came out last year) ...he openly admitted, did not sugarcoat it at all..the TLX is a very tough sale to 4G owners but not to TSX owners...himself owned a 4G and switched to a RLX.
He even sent a thank you card at home and a Starbucks gift card....excellent premium car salesmanship at its finest.

Not looking to switch or buy a new car for another 6 years, and when I do, I'll most likely end up in an SUV as opposed to a sedan. If i go sedan, I would be looking at full electric as I think that will be a more mature market with more options available than current.

I sat briefly in the tlx loaner that my bro had and definitely agree with heart. The rlx is the only upgrade for 4g tl owners but with no nonhybrid base version we're looking at what 60s. Best case scenario this is an extra 20k minimum over what i paid for my current car. I suppose if acura has their type s tlx at that point with 3.5tt or the type r motor i could reconsider.

If you look at the TLX forum, there is one topic there now asking "4th gen owner that upgraded", only one guy replied.

That should confirm this topic that 4G owners are not fully sold with the current TLX.

I haven't checked recently to verify if the RLX AWD is being discounted heavily, but I know the PAWS variant is. So much so, that would could buy one new for around the same amount you bought your TL for.

I know it's been mentioned, but the TLX is no more a 5G TL than it is a 3G TSX. It's just a 1G TLX.

I think it would actually be more appropriate to call it a 3G TSX, and from the sounds of it, many feel the same way.

Seeing as many 4G owners have little desire to move to the TLX is further confirmation. The TLX has nothing in common with the TL- no idea why it's even under the TL subsection here on AZ

True, I saw that. A lot of crickets in that post. But one thing to consider is a lot of people lease. When your lease is up, sometimes people just want a new car you know ? I'm betting alot of 4G OWNERS didnt move on to the TLX. Leasers ? yes, not owners.

Interesting point but not totally sold on that.....if you lease you can as easily lease something else when your contract is up...nobody forces you to get a TLX.

Your right you can, but if you want something newer and want to stick with the same Acura brand and within your budget, TLX is the only option. Im assuming you cant re-lease the same vehicle. You either have to buy it or lease something else.

sadly i want sh-awd and hopefully an interior upgrade which as of today leaves me with the sport hybrid (not too much off from reading the owners thread on azine). I won't talk about used prices since acura i will buy new, so I may look elsewhere sadly. A proper TypeS or Type-R under 45k would probably do it though

I almost bought a new TLX V6 tech before I bought my CPO TL. Drove both cars and I liked the TL better. The TL feels more luxurious and the body style is unique. The only thing I like in the new TLX is the headlight and technology. The only regret, wish I would have bought a SHAWD but I couldn't find that's worth or pass my visual inspection.
