So is the promo an acura specific type promo or is it just some pitch XM uses to bring you in? Either way I think Im gonna renew it when its up cause its something that Im getting used to..I still gotta get around to setting my dam presets

siriusly, has anyone listened to the 80's channel on sirius? it's like the greatest all-time bestest hits all the time. meanwhile xm mixes in a lot wack b-sides that i've never heard before nor i do i care to...

Do you really think honda/acura pays to have XM in the car..
If anything it is XM that is paying to get their service integrated.

Month or so later I get a bill from XM. They stopped my subscription from renewing on my credit card but they billed it to me in quarterly installments instead. Not only that but the subscription had expired about 3 weeks before so I was already had "used" three weeks of it. I called up, complained, was transferred to (I suspect) a retention specialist, and told him that I didn't not want the XM at that cost. He asked what if it was at the same price I paid for my first year, $77. I said that would be fine.
Next month I get a bill for the $77 a year deal PLUS the pro-rated portion of the quarterly rate between when my subscription expired and I called. So I called again and they took it off my bill.
Not sure if XM is worth $77 and three phone calls.

Not that this answers the question on who pays, but still interesting info.

I just renewed mine for $77 about a month ago. When they called me to renew it, (I let mine run out) I just told the guy I had gotten a flyer in the mail for $77. He renewed it on the spot for that price.

$77 for 15 months of service + free activation
Just got an XM Commander in my '04 w/navi. I remembered this thread and I was determined to get $77/year. But just for fun, I did some Googling before I called XM to activate. I found someone claiming the promo code XMSCION03 would get you either 3 months free + free activation, or 12 months for $77 with free activation. So I decided to try it.
As the name implies, it's probably some sort of offer that goes with a new Scion car. But I never had to answer that question directly...they just asked if it was for my car, and I said yes.
So I called and talked to an operator who had to put me on hold at least 5 times. First she wanted to only give me the 3 months + free activation with this promo code. But then I brought up the $77/year...and after going back and forth with her supervisor a few times...she agreed to give me free activation, plus 3 months free, then the next 12 months for $77 if I used a credit card.
I wasn't expecting to get that good of a deal...let's see if I really end up getting it. So far, so good...I've had XM service for 10 days and still no charge on my credit card.

Got the $77 promo just the other day for the second time. Just insist on it and tell them you'd rather not not sign up if they push the full rate. They'll transfer you to customer retention and you'll get the promo for sure.

I just called to get the winback promo. I told the rep my dealer sent me, and he asked me if I had a prior account. I told him I never had an accont with XM although the car had XM the subscription when I purchased it. He said that because I did not have an accont with them that he would give me 3mos free!!! Sweet!!! When the promo is up, I will call for the winback promo and keep you guys posted.

Rather than just bump this, I'll quote a post from the TL forum:
Recent posters have remarked that they got the $77 deal without having to give the "zwinback" code so that might be out of date.
I just renewed my subscription for the 3rd year at $77.
Here are some interesting statistics:
I just did some quick calculations on this 3-part thread.
127,578 Times the thread (all 3 parts) were viewed by members
1,554 Times members posted in the threads
$ 78.40 Average annual savings per member who got the deal
$ 121,833 Total saved so far for Acurazine members! THE BEST car forum going!
PS: This doesn't even count this forum- TSX- and RL forums which have duplicate threads running.

Part 2
And now, back to our program which is already in progress:
First... call and make sure they are not going to auto renew you and charge your credit card. Have your radio code and call the customer service number. Tell them you want to let it expire because it's too expensive at full rates.
Then, they might offer you the $77 deal. If so, skip the rest of these steps and take it. If not, hang up after making sure it will not auto renew.
After it cancels, then call in with the script about having gotten a flyer. See the big yellow scan of the flyer posted previously HERE.
SCRIPT FOLLOWS:
Then call the 800-682-4114 number and read the script: "Hello. My subscription to XM Radio has expired but I just got a flyer with a special offer. I would like to take advantage of this offer for $77 for a year.
If they ask for the radio code, give that to them. They WILL ask for it because that's the only way they can turn it on. If you had, in fact, gotten a flyer, it would have your radio code printed on it so have it handy.

You guys have to follow the instructions. You can't just wing it. In fact, doing so may ruin it for all.
This is not a generally know sale available to the public. It is to win back people who have canceled their XM service.
You can't pull it out of your hat when they call YOU. They won't know what you are talking about.
You have to call the number given and speak the words as written in THE SCRIPT which has been provided here. Visit the 3GL Forum in the Audio subsection for the detailed experiences of hundreds of members here.
Many, including me, will tell you that they have gotten the $77 deal 3 years in a row.
KEEP IN MIND: this is NOT a publicly promoted deal. It is a back door to a reduced rate. You have to touch all the bases to get the home run. Don't be sloppy about it.

I called 5 minutes ago and after i told them i wanted to cancel i was transferred to retentions.
I told the rep there that in needed to cancel becasue the service was too expensive. I told her that i currently only paid $77.00 per year, and she said that she can offer that if i would sign on for another year.
So i am good to go. Thanks
In addition she said if it is still too expensive next year that I can call back and get the same offer.
Thats great customer service!
