LOL at $11 music royaties fee. "Uh-oh, we just realized that someone has to pay ASCAP and the others, we think it might as well be you, because we have all these satellites to keep running. Okay?" What a gouge.

I'm thinking of removing my XM receiver, as the current XM-Sirious lineup is a disappointment over the XM offerings in 2008.

just a suggestion: If you plan to sell the tsx sometime down the road-the next person might like to have xm radio (that is if it still in business).

Seems like the audio quality just seems to get worse too. The only channels that sound any good are the new ones in the "More" category. :-(

I didn't say "discard" the radio, Kathy, just remove. I'd only unplug it, but why carry the dead weight on the freeway and the track. But ... it probably weighs not much more than my camera and track telemetry gear, so I haven't been bothered to do this yet.

we have an inactive xm radio in our hyundai (hubby has his sirius radio hooked up for u know who) XM gives out free service for about 2 weeks whenever. We took advantage of that when he was finished listening to u know who.

"Radio Service Fee." WTF is that? They're going to work on your radio if it fails? They're getting more creative with their hidden fees....

Just renewed for the $77 again (well, $85.09). Auto-phone-system took me straight to Cancellations, so the first gal I talked to was able to offer me the deal again. Just had to mark on my calendar again that it auto-renews so I can call first.

I'll keep renewing at this rate (or lower ), but will drop it if they stop offering it. I still miss Fred, Lucy and Ethel...

Just called to see if I could get a free trial for my TSX and was shot down quick. They are "offering no such promotions at this time."

I told her that I was interested in subscribing but I hadn't had XM previously and was not going into it blind. That got me no further.

After reading all of the comments on here, it doesn't seem worth it. Everyone's complaining about lost channels, quality heading south, etc.

When you guys renewed, was it a one-time fee or charged in monthly installments?

Mine's always year-to-year charged to my credit card on the spot. There are monthly deals, and 3-month deals and the such, but I've always just kept renewing the year deal I have.

I just called and said that the trial period ended abruptly and I wasn't able to enjoy XM radio for but. A couple weeks, so homeboy just gave me another 3 free months. Haha.

Yea, the first dude I spoke with said the only installment plan they can do is two installments of 100. So I hung up and called again and told the second guy that I wasn't able to enjoy my XM free trial but for only a couple weeks, so old boy gave me another 3 months. Haha.

I just got a three month extension for $2.49 a month plus some small tax. I just have to remember to phone them up in August (get first 3 months free) and stop the regular $14 and haggle. $80 a year sounds fair. quality isnt great but its OK - better than FM, worse than BT streaming, way worse than CD. probably worse than vinyl too - there's progress.

I just got 6 months for $44.85.

You definitely have to tell them you want to cancel. The first girl just kept saying she could give me 6 months for half the annual price. I kept saying, I don't want it for that price, it's not worth it.

Anyways, once you say you want to cancel because it's too expensive, you should get someone who can offer you something similar to what I got.

Hope that helps!
Rich

I've been getting 5 months for $29.17(tax/fee included). It's 27.55 plus sales tax for me, stupid RI.

Two phone calls ago I said no twice before they gave me the offer again. I refused offers of half off the regular 12 month price, and half off a 6 month price. Last call I only had to say no once before they gave it to me again.

I've basically got a script down, and use it every 5 or 6 months. Basically I just call and say looking to cancel the auto renewel, trying to cut back on some expenses, etc. They offer something, I pause for dramatic effect and say I'm gonna have to pass, then they offer again what I had, another pause and I say wellll, ok that is a good deal, umm, yea I think I would be interested! I always thank them for extending that offer again to me.

In case anybody's interested, free preview! We'll see if I get to keep my service after next month when I try to re-up at my current discount…

(from their email)
Starting November 14, SiriusXM is giving inactive radios FREE access to 60 channels of commercial-free music, plus sports, news, talk and entertainment.

Go to siriusxm.com/freelistening for the channel guide with the list of 60 selected channels.

Just renewed for 12 months. Tried to get the $25/6 months they weren't having it. I guess I could have been more aggressive.

Managed to get $86 (+ taxes) for 12 months.

FYI, I got an e-mail from SiriusXM that they are doing a preview of 60 channels for inactive radios from 1/30/13 to 2/12/13.

Same for me - sound quality isn't great, but AltNation and MSNBC keep me subscribed......

I know this is kind of an old thread, and I'm not just trying to push it back up but take pride in my negotiating skills. I consistently get XM for no more than roughly $5.00 a month. That is the price I feel it is worth as you can stream pandora from your phone for free with fewer ads. They lie when they say they have ad free radio, none of the stations are ad free. At best they only play ad's for their station. When you call you have to say you will cancel unless they give it to you for $5 a month. That means you have to talk to the person in India first and then get transferred to the department to try and keep you, I believe they are usually in Texas but it will be someone that speaks english fluently and clearly. From there I tell them I will cancel unless I can get it for $60 a year or it is not worth it to me. I mention I have an iPod and a smart phone and their service is a luxury item in my opinion and not worth more. One time it was $62 and change for a year, I said sure. Another time the agent counter-offered me with $20 for 5 months. I told him that was fine (in my mind laughing that they counter offered me at a 20% lower rate than I had valued them...) I also very specifically say that I am only willing to make a one time payment and do not authorize them to save my credit card info so that they can not try to charge me for their auto renew. Also, with XM, you get a 30 day grace period from the time your service ends until you have to pay or cancel. So if you are set to expire Jan.1 you can call them at the end of the month and do this again to essentially get a few weeks free in-between. The only other thing is they now charge a billing fee of $2 to mail you the bill when your service is set to expire. I always tell the agent I don't want to pay for that either and have never had a problem having them waive that. I would say I usually am only able to get 6 month periods for the deal. So I call twice a year to save the money, each call is roughly 10-20 minutes. It is a waste of time and depending on how you value your time, it might not be worth it. I enjoy the comedy stations and can't stand the two tabs for XM on the nav screen and the xm button not being functional if I don't have the service.
