Ooo...I see, just like the Dreamcast VCD player.

And the first generation of DC games that used the Utopia Boot disc.

I don't mean to be negative, but the only problem with this is that each time the ignition was turned off, you would have to do the boot process all over, and it most likely would not remember where in the movie you are. Although it sounds like a cool idea, I don't know how pratical it is.

Don't let me discourage you though Bysin. That would still be way cool since you would be able to watch mpeg4 on the OEM navi screen without having to buy any additional components. So it basically it would be a free mpeg4 player. I'm sure it would definitely come in handy on a long trip

Most likely it is Bh2HH18B.BIN, but you can find out which one it is by following the readme file. Its listed under the Version screen.

Also a DVD burner is not neccessary, I just burned everything onto a CD-R and it worked fine.

Bh2HHMLD.BIN
Bh2HH12B.BIN

On the other hand my friend, You are close by to me Do you know how to do this stuff??

How has your car been treating you?? I forgot if you have the Navi?? My dash squeeks just below the screen, with ample pressure to the lower face plate, the squeek disapears, I take it in next week. Maybe Jesus is working, LOL

Was wondering if the squeeks are more prevelent with the Navi's.

If you know how to do this computer stuff let me know

Thanks.

As much value as you provide, I figure.

Here's what you can do: Setup a simple webpage and a paypal or amazon.com account and politely let people know that you're taking donations to support future development efforts.

We're a community here, so trying to maximize profits won't make you a lot of friends, but it's nice to do the 'shareware' model where people can pay you based on their individual means and interest. But it should be purely optional.

If you GUI'd this with all kinds of cool options (no nag, back image, mpeg4, etc), I'd probably donate $20 or so to encourage you to keep on moving forward with new innovations.

BTW,

The only thing I really want is to remove the nag screen, and your on-line instructions were very cryptic and technical. I do not think it's a copyright infringement to provide detailed instructions on how to modify a file that I own a copy of.

After all, each of us own our own copy of the NAVI software, and to my understanding, according to current copyright laws, we are still allowed to modify our own property.

Not to mention, any changes can easily be reversed by reloading the navi disc after removing the battery.

EDIT: Oh, and I concur: that only thing I really have any desire to change is that damn nag screen. It has got to go.

First I would like to say, bysin, thank you *very* much Below is my image, and the image installed in the car. The in-car picture turned out pretty bad due to horrible lighting; the image actually looks as good as the original you see here. You can download the original BMP file here

I opened the original Back.bmp, modified it and saved. Size/resolution/256 colors didn't change either.

The Back.bmp file that you made should be in the root folder where dumpnavi.exe, not in the folder you extracted to. So make sure the bmp is in the same folder as dumpnavi.exe

Just because you own the DVD doesn't mean you own the software. The software is not your property. What you own is a license with rights to use the software, which does not give you the right to modify it. You should read some of those software agreements.

The nag screen is there for legal reasons. The car makers have to put it there by law no matter how annoying it is. It's there so you can't sue acura or the makers of the navi (alpine?) if you get into an accident while driving and messing with the screen. I agree tho, it is quite annoying.

That said, all I have to say is wow. that is quite amazing what you did bysin. My hats off to you!

I'd change my splash screen, but i suck at making back drops.

I'm wondering how different our unit is from the TL unit. I had a TL loaner and you could control the subwoofer seperatly. wonder if thats is even possbile to duplicate.

Would this work with the TL's nav system? There have been attempts over on the TL forums to remove the nag screen, but all failed. Would be interested to see if this would work with the TL.

it'll be on sale on my website sometime this month
when it was free and on this forum it was just "kid's toys"
but before you put a price tag on it you should ask your lawyer if it's legal
i'm not trying to slow you down or make you keep it free
but it would be a bummer to loose such a smart guy if Acura decides to go after you
i'm obviously talking about the no-nag part
i doubt they give a damn about the logo screen

or at least come up with some long user agreement taking the responsibility for a damage and accidents off of you

JonDeutsch,
I found that Hackman Disassembler is free and it works. For Hex Editor, "Hex Editor v2.3" from HHD software is free.

Both available on download.com, but from there.. it's gibberish to me. I'm trying to understand it, but... it's not as easy as I thought.

Do we agree that that file cls_init.exe is the file we should be looking at?

Cmon bysin, give us a little more help here. You dont have to provide us the tool you used, but you can at least give us instruction on how to do this.

Hell, I'll donate money also if you tell us.

The nag screen is on navi.exe.. I'm going to release a patch on how to take it out, and even add a GUI so it'll be easier to setup.
