!!Check engine light is on? Should I drive my car a long distance without a diganosis

So my check engine light came on the other day, when my dad was driving my car. He said he was just messing with the cruise control and the check engine light came on. Anyways this is the 3rd time it has happened. My car has 105,2xx miles on it. I got the timing belt replaced back in December, and last year my raditor broke so I got that replaced. And the 1st time the engine light came on, a spark plug was loose. So what is the most common problem for the check engine light to pop on at 105,2XX miles given my conditions. And is it safe to drive my car 120 miles in one day with it on? I'm not going into details about why, its somewhat important but can wait till next week.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery for 30 seconds. The CEL should go off. If it comes back on, that means something is actually wrong, and it's not just a glitch. You can continue to drive, as long as the car is still acting normally, as in no funny idle, etc. Get the code scanned out at AutoZone (don't know if it's free in your area, wasn't in mine), and fix what's wrong!

~Cheers~

^ Welcome to the boards. Are you on SF as well? Funny that you'd be poking around here with a 2J.

Or it could be a loose fuel cap.
What's the trouble code?
Autozone or similar will pull the codes for free.
