Is the new BMW X1 our long-awaited 1G replacement?

I saw the new 2017 BMW X1 up close today. It no longer has that weirdo, low-slung pseudo station wagon profile with a long nose. Looks really sweet IMO and about the same profile as a 1G RDX or smaller X3. 228 HP / 258 TQ. I might be liking this.

The Lexus NX also runs a turbo 4 and shares a similar profile to the 1G (it is within .5" in every exterior dimension). Of course, you have to opt-in for the love it/hate it predator grille.

Wondering if the drive feel of an X1 is closer to the 1G RDX? Supposedly the earlier X1 was a sportier drive, but I thought the station wagon look was bizarre.

I like the new X1 so much more than the NX - I cant get over that predator grille.

I really liked the look and options of the NX but the ride was closer to that of the 2nd gen RDX imo. I could barely tell it had a turbo on my test drive.

When I finally have to give up my rockin dx it'll be for a porche macan. I'll take an S or gts or even the turbo when the time comes. Since I could never afford a new one I'll be looking for a good used one. Porche seems to be decently reliable from what I've gathered, who knows maybe Acura will finally build something I'd like to own again by then. Until then I'll keep enjoying this car. Cheers all.

I would go X3 myself. It's slightly bigger than the 1G but still not crazy big. I just wish BMW keep the inline 6 non-turbo.

I've driven the 2015, 2016 X1/RDX/RX350/NX/GLC300.
Personally I thought the NX was cramped and very slow compared to the others. Wouldn't even consider it imho. 2017 X1 is fwd and doesn't drive like a proper BMW. The whole point of buying a BMW is for the driving experience and the 2015 X1 does a better job then that. The '15 is sportier to drive, and is based on the E9X chassis and drives noticeably better then the '17. The GLC300 drove the best imo and was the "sportiest".

^^ Interesting. I've read that about the driving dynamics of the new FWD-biased X1. Also that the original was a sportier experience. The main problem I had with the previous gen X1 was the station wagon look. Although more tolerable than the NX, for my taste.

I love having a CUV to run around town compared to my wider and longer MDX. The new CUVs are just getting sooo expensive once you add all the same amount of "toys" compared to the current +15 MDX tech/adv or +16 RDX Tech/Adv. The small ones like the X1 or Q3 are too small and can be underpowered and around $40,000 average once you add tech package. The really cool ones like Q5, F-Pace, or Macan weight up to 4400-4500 lbs and start to reach the $50,000-$70,000 price tag real soon with any addition of sporty tech. Unless the 3rd Gen 2019 or 2020 RDX has sh-awd, I'm leaning towards an used +15 MDX Adv sh-awd if my 08 RDX needs to be replaced.

My 11 MDX Adv can't beat my 08 RDX; but, my MDX will still be in the RDX's rear view mirror the entire time.

I loved the F-Pace until I sat down and started to price it out...I was well over $60k by the time I put the minimum I wanted into it...and the dealers weren't dealing at all due to it's 'newness'. Really wasn't impressed, either, with the Lexus NX. Not a bad vehicle, just seemed un-Lexus like, IMHO, and the wife did not like the looks of it...too radical for her.

I think the F-Pace is a sleek looking SUV. A colleague at work has a red one. Her other car is BMW 4 series convertible. Must be nice...
