dedicated snow tires & wheels 08 RDX help!
I want to buy dedicated snow tires & wheels/rims.
*I did use the search functions here* That only lead to me being MORE confused.
I live in mountainous snowy PA.
Am considering buying from tire rack.
It appears they only offer 3 types of snow tires for the 08 Acura-one of which is out of stock???
Surely this cannot be correct?
I need good safe winter snow tires for slush/ice/snow.
What wheel size & brands should I be looking for?
I just want to keep it simple.
What type of alloy?
My brain is too full after reading for a week. I don't want to buy the wrong thing.
I don't understand about rims or what the alloy differences mean either.
If you were putting a pair of snow tires & rims/wheels on an '08 RDX for your daughter or mom what would you suggest?

I got a set from Tire Rack for ski season on my 08. I suggest calling them to discuss your needs - their customer service is amazing. I worked with Sonny Shaw (sonny@tirerack.com) who has posted here before, and found a set that worked well for me. You want to downsize to 17" or 16" rims to get lots of rubber into the snow.
I got a set of 16" rims with Michelin Latitudes. They run great in snow and dry pavement, which suits my needs in California. But you may want a more aggressive snow tire. Tire Rack will take care of you.

My last response didn't post. Ugh.
Am I able to to do 16" steel wheels?
I had read while using the search function here that someone with an 07 or 08 had an issue & 16" wheels did not work proper on the front due to breaks or calipers or something.
Are you able to confirm or explain?
Currently am thinking of Blizzak LM80 run flats combined w/steel wheels.
Thoughts?
My other thought was 17" steel wheels w/ Yokohama ig5iv
Thoughts between blizzaks and yokahama?

Sounds like you will be encountering serious snow. The 16" wheels will give you the best snow/ice performance and safety. They will absolutely fit on the RDX provided the offset is correct. Tire Rack will only recommend those wheels that fit correctly. They will make it right if somehow they goof, don't worry. My 16" wheels fit with room to spare.
The smaller wheel allows for the narrower tire that you need for the best snow/ice traction. Also, the 16" set-up will be less expensive. Bridgestone (Blizzaks) and Yokohama both make quality tires, so I again suggest speaking to the Tire Rack sales person about your driving conditions. BTW the RDX, with snow tires and the SH-AWD is a snow beast!
My 16" wheels tires. Looking forward to getting them on soon for ski season.

Thanks for the pics. Nice to see what it looks like with smaller tires.
I got tired if trying to figure everything out.
Tire rack with tires/rims & TMP sensor things was $853, & S+H was $150, plus I would still have to have them put on.
I went to Costco, got Bridgestone Blizzak DMV2 235/55r/18 on my orig wheels, total cost out the door $703.74
Right now they have a $70 rebate that you do not have to mail in-they take it off the price right there--so heads up for anyone looking for Bridgestones.
Hopefully I will have a tank in the snow I know they are not the smaller wheels/tires, but they should do.

^^ +1. I prefer having the stock rims as the winter setup, and buy a new set of rims for summer.
Anyway, if you go with the stock rims as your winter setup, you can use the following sizes:
235/55R18 (stock size)
225/60R18 (~1% difference so it's fine, won't mess up anything). This is actually a good idea because narrower tires can "dig" into the snow and grip better. This is also slightly cheaper too.
Car and Driver did a Best Winter Tire Test in 2015:
Winter-Tire Test: Six Top Brands Tested, Compared ? Feature ? Car and Driver
Top 3 are:
3. Continental WinterContact Si
2. Michelin X-Ice XI3
1. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2
You won't go wrong with any of these. The WinterContact Si is the cheapest out of the 3, while the Nokian's are the most expensive.

We are currently going through one of the craziest winters here in California. My '08 handled driving in the snow just fine with Continental DWS 06. I never got stuck, or was in a situation where I felt that the car was sliding.

PM me if you need a reply
+1 for the Continental DWS 06. I have them in 275/35ZR-20 on 20x10 40mm ET wheels.
I just put Continental WinterContact Si on the stock 235/55R-18 wheels for winter trips and those are excellent snow tires. Highly recommended.

I put a 17" set of Michelin X-Ice Xi2 on my wife's 10 RDX and she loves them. We're in CO and have taken them through the mountains a few times and they've performed really well. I liked them so much that I got a set (newer version Xi3) for my '11 BMW 535. They are supposed to last longer than the Conti's, which is about the only negative thing I've heard about them (conti's).
