You might need to post your question or do a search about towing on the 2nd Gen RDX section for your 17 RDX. A lot of us purchased the 07-12 RDX for the "sporty" aspects of the vehicle (turbo, sh-awd, handling). The +2013 RDX has more "utility" aspects and way more active users on that side to answer your questions with real world experience. The most I done is add a roof rack for a cargo carrier and a hidden hitch for a bike rack for my 08 RDX. I have my 11 MDX for the heavy stuff up to 5000lbs.

Yes thanks, It took me a second but I eventually realized that when I saw the turbo comment. I just got here from Google, so I'm kind of new.

wow

this is a great tow vehicle! ive towed way more then 1500 closer to 2500 up hill at 70+ no issues.

put a bigger trans cooler and if your going to tow bigger loads get electric brakes on the trailer.

I'm new here as tonight I bought a 2014 RDX Tech AWD. I've been stressing over this because I came upon these threads when looking for info because I need to be able to tow my 15' bass boat. It with trailer and motor are probably around 2000-2250#.

I was looking to buy a class 3 Hitch when I came upon these threads. I was super excited to get this car and I pick it up tomorrow after they detail it. This was the only thing that is stressing me out. Had made big plans to go fishing with my son and hoping someone out there can comment on towing with my 14 AWD.

You’re in the wrong section my friend. I’m not even sure the 2G RDX has the same tow capacity as the 1G. Edit: nvm still 1500 pounds, shocking!

for the record, I have a 2016 ACURA RDX and I have towed my 3000lb boat with no issues. Class III Curt hitch installed. Now, this is done minimally and about 10 miles or so each way to launch and back, but have not had any issues. The grade is generally flat. Having towed the same boat with a Lexus RX350, I can say I have not felt any difference whatsoever in how each have driven, pulled and handled comparably. Understandably the strain may ultimately come on the transmission getting hot, but the engine power is very capable.I would not feel deterred at all if you plan to tow in measured miles. I would not go 50 or 100(or more) miles with this boat in tow, but the vehicle can handle it overall.

Makes sense - usually the limiting factor is cooling for engine, transmission, oil, etc. Next up is potentially the frame itself. Knowing that, you can definitely tow higher weights if you know hills and long distance cruising aren't part of the equation.

Thumbs up

I agree the transmission is the main component in the trailer towing puzzle. It can overheat, wear, & miss a shift from the weight. The rest of the powertrain seems pretty solid.

Good Morning everyone. I have read about the christmas tree lighting up in the ktuner forums but no anecdotal replies have been for the rdx. I tried flashing stage 2 last night. Runs great! but all my warning lights are on. I can't change driving modes either (stuck in sport). Any advice? Did I do something wrong? I read in the ktuner forums that I might have to drive for a bit for the car to recalibrate. Has this happened to anyone else? Thank you for your help. -RC

Plus that is definitely not a 1G. Two wrongs certainly didn't make a right here.

2 litter engine is comparable to a CRV and RDX towing is tight in line w a CRV.
I had a Pilot and it did a great job towing but I no longer need much more than a bike rack on a regular basis. If anyone is interested in towing I'd go with a MDX and zi think they are similar to a Pilot as they have a tranny cooler option.
