Changing thermostat on a 98 2.3CL

Just wondering if there is anything special I should do. I think it’s in the housing where the top radiator hose goes into the engine. I picked up a replacement thermostat, thermostat gasket and housing gasket. Anything else I need?

BTW, my cooling system is acting funny. Sometimes my reserve bottle is getting higher without it going back into the radiator. I hope it’s just a funky thermostat…

You're gonna need a new bottle of prestone 50/50 since you'll be draining out your coolant, not sure if it's mandatory but I'd do it anyway if I were you so fluid doesn't fly when you pull that hose. One bottle of 50/50 premixed is all you need.

I figured I'd drain a bit out but not completely from the bottom of the rad (I just put new fluid in when doing the rad a month ago). Good stuff!!!

I dunno about the F23s, but on my F22 on the level that the thermostat is on id need to drain out about half the radiator, give or take, may as well just flush and fill, its easier and just simply uniform, with maintenance uniformity is good

Sounds to me like you need a new rad cap to cure the intermittant level in coolant tank problem.
