TLX: Sport Sedan?

TLX: Sport Sedan?
Do you think the V6 Acura TLX is considered a "sport sedan"? (Just curious what other people think.)
It has some requisite features of what I would a "sport sedan" (in no particular order):
paddle shifters
relatively high revving engine
~300 hp
Sport mode transmission
side bolsters on seats
firm suspension (somewhat)

I would call the TLX a weak consideration to be classified a sport sedan. It's pretty much as sporty as what most other sedans these days are, that I'd classify as being normal. Maybe a bit better in some areas.
Id call the Q50 Red, or whatever it's called, more of a sport sedan.

I would call it more of a "sport sedan shell". It has all the visual elements of performance but at it's heart, it's just a regular people mover. Even Toyota has boarded the sport design train with its regular cars. It does in no way make them faster, but it sure does make them sale lol

I have to agree with. Out of the posts above, and I think it's a shame they have not built a sport version. I think the car has the basic bones, Acura just doesn't seem to care. The 3G (I think) offered a true sport version that was likely not hard or expensive to do and it reached a number of enthusiasts.
For those who have. It seen it yet, Genesis just showed the 2018 G80's and are going to offer a "sport" in the U.S. They are showing it in white which to me may now be the nicest sport sedan for anywhere near the money.

On topic, the term 'Sports Sedan' is subjective. The ATS-V is the quintessential sports sedan to me. The TLX is a sportier version of the Accord V6 sedan.

Only in the Acura advertisements. Acura does not even offer proper tires for it like they did the earlier TL's. Nice car but no Sport Sedan.

I would suggest that the large majority of TLX owners really don't care whether it fits a particular definition of "sports sedan". However, since you posed the question, I would call it more of a "sporty sedan". As I have said many times, it's an excellent all around sedan, similar to an Audi A4 or a BMW 323/28.

I'm not factoring in money since that's not linked to sportiness.

I definitely think the TLX has lost its sporty edge compared to previous TL's. The seats don't hold my sides as well as my 07 type S did, and the 9AT downshifts too slow to be considered sporty.

Those features don't qualify to sport sedan and I barley think the TLX qualifies for a near luxury sedan. To me a sport sedan means at minimum sport suspension, tires, brakes, engine (HP/Torque), then on top of that throw better seating, steering wheel, styling , seating, etc... Then you are starting to get to a Sport Sedan.
How do you define sport suspension, more hp, more torque etc? Styling? Does that rule out the "Bangle" BMWs of a few years ago?
I'm mostly just messing with you. The TLX does need some of all that.

Even those who chose not to go for the sport version still had the product image that the TL was a hot car to enjoy.
Its not possible to prove a negative but its easy to wonder about the correlation of the missing 30,000 unit sales & how many were performance buyers as opposed to those who were purely moving up to a higher end product.

I entertained the idea of trading up for the V.

That's a bit of a price jump. Very nice looking car, though.

Incidentally, that ATS-V had 1,700 miles on the clock and the ask was $53k.

There are insane deals to be had on the ATS & CTS including the V models. Nice cars, but they just aren't selling well.
Cars like the ATS-V, CTS, M3 are the gold standard for sports sedans, many would even consider the 340 & S4, but the TLX while having some sporting intentions, is no sports sedan. It's more like the mid range, high volume sellers for the models I listed.

It's as much a sport sedan as the Honda Accord Sport which actually has Sport in its name.

I actually just read something talking about this, can't remember where the article was. I guess with gas prices where they are, SUVs will continue to sell like hot cakes, but that makes me sad. Don't think I ever took the long way home driving my wife's SUVs.

^its the older generation, who are getting older, no longer wanting a jarring sport car.
but it's also my generation who likes the ride sharing-non ownership platforms(uber)
on top of that, people generally like riding on a higher platform than a sedan offers
the death of sedans are quickly upon us
