TLX Shark Fin Antenna

Hi All, (First Post)

I'm wondering if anyone has had to replace the shark fin antenna on a 2015 TLX? I had a garage door incident this morning which scraped and pushed up the antenna so its basically just hanging by the front end. Called the Acura dealership and they told me it would cost roughly $751.00 + tax to replace it! Any ideas on where or how I can get it cheaper...car is a lease so I definitely don't want to be penalized for the damage in the end and would rather repair it upfront.

Thanks!

Acura Parts | Genuine Acura OEM Parts | Acura Parts Cheap
Acura Parts | OEM Acura Parts | Factory Acura Parts

both are online dealerships that sell slightly below MSRP on parts

it's #3 @ $76.91
RADIO ANTENNA for 2015 Acura TLX SEDAN

be sure to pick the right exterior color

the only issue you might come across is....if the garage door messed up the mounting hole.....
if it did, i dont think you will be able to mount it.

and I'm assuming you have to go under the roof liner.
MAYBE if your hands are small you can gain access where the rear wind shield meets the roof liner

if not, you'll have to drop the roof liner. and I suspect where the man hours and labor cost come from

That figure you were quoted definitely includes a huge amount of labor, and I'm sure they are charging retail for the part. I would try and DIY as Justn mentioned, but until then, you may want to silicone it down until you have time to address it to avoid water seeping into the interior.

That honestly doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.

If you can get the back to sit flush with the paint, I would just use some RTV silicone trim adhesive which you can find at any autoparts store, and then use touch up paint on the rear of the fin.

looks like paint completely rubbed off and is exposing plastic. could possibly just use touch up paint to cover up the black plastic.

and as I suspected, the heavy garage door moved the fin out of place. you might or might not have a clear and straight mounting point. butt, if you tighten it down with the bolt, IT MIGHT work!!

I second Mr. Hyde....for the time being maybe you could seal it with a temp. silicone sealant??? although, i dont know any that are temporary...hmmmm

I wouldn't use anything Silicone based since that will bond to the paint and not be removable short of mechanical means. Yes you can remove most of it, but a thin film will always be there and it may be difficult to get anything else to bond on top of it. I'd try 3M double sided tape that is used to adhere car emblems. They also sell this at car part stores. The paint can be touched up. If the antennas still work properly I'd try this. If it can't fit flush you may have bent the sheet metal.

I've had great luck with this company. Touch up paint | Touch Up Paint | AutomotiveTouchup

Unless you're planning on repainting the roof without sanding that section, I honestly wouldn't be too concerned, especially for a lease return. MY issue with the tape would be having the rear sitting on the tape, and not sitting as flush as the front.

I've use that touchup paint for my BWP on a rear wheel mudguard. It's a pearl it is 2 vials of paint, the match was so-so. Not really the fault of the company, just the nature of pearl paints. For that small of an area, I honestly doubt they would notice on the return inspection.

I would just touch it up and hope for the best. Does your roof leak now? If not, I would definitely leave it along as the solutions mentioned may cause more harm than good.

If it's ~$750 to fix, you may want to claim it on your insurance if you accident forgiveness or comprehensive depending on how the accident happened. A comprehensive claim should not raise your rates.
