Saying goodbye - Sold my TLX
I've owned nothing but Honda/Acura cars for the past 15 years. My TLX was a lemon. I'm happy to be out of it. Highway vibrations, transmission issues, suspension issues, emission system problems... My car was at the dealer for 2.5 months during my first year of ownership.
I'm now the proud owner of a beautiful 435i Gran Coupe. It drives like a dream. Costs quite a bit more than my TLX did, but sometimes, you get what you pay for.
Thank you all for your contributions and insight on this board.

The TLX is pretty much entirely a lemon...
It's the worst thing Honda has put out in nearly 15 years despite its looks and tech...
It's the 2nd gen TLs little brother, the new car Acura techs will look at a warranty work...
That's the third TLX tranny related thread I've seen since Saturday...

Sorry to hear about your lemon. All manufacturers have them.
on the Bimmer. My buddy has got one. He loves his but is looking to get rid of it because it's too small. (it's also a lease)

Like I said, my TLX spent 2.5 out of 12 months at the dealer's service department. It's going to be hard for any car to top that. It's been raining on/off for several days. Pics coming as soon as I get a sunny day.

and let me guess, there's a lineup of BMW owners out the front door and down the block, because everyones brand new BMW is a pile of garbage and completely falling apart, right?
People don't even drive home anymore- they just drive straight to the dealership and live the parking lot because in their cars are so bad.. right?

Nice, the 435 is a beautiful car! and contrary to what most people say BMWs aren't horribly unreliable. I had a 3 series (I bought new) for over 9yrs and it only started giving me a few issues in the 9th year after it had been rear ended. Before that I maybe spent about 2-3k worth of work in years 7 and 8 and before that nothing. Plus first 4yrs 50k miles all maintenance is free! so enjoy!
As a current owner of a TLX the 435i is a definite upgrade, unfortunately it wasn't in my budget for my DD

If you go on the bimmer forums you will hear plenty of horror stories. Probably just like you do on this forum. What I will say about german cars is I'm on my second Benz and haven't had any issues with either and we love our current one. They also do have very nice lounges. I have 30k miles on my car and we've been to the dealer exactly 3 times, every 10k for service and thats it. No recalls or problems. We have gone to the dealer just to get drinks and food with my son if we happened to be close , LoL, but I don't count those as official visits.
I'm in the market for another car as well and have researched the BMW 550 and its probably one of the most plagued cars I've ever heard of along with any car that shares the N63 engine, this includes some 6s and the 7 series. My brother in-law worked for BMW NA and he was a warranty specialist, dealt with dealers exclusively, and I heard plenty of stories and he always told me which platforms to stay away from, not that I ever bought a BMW.

I really wanted to wait and take some better pictures, both interior and exterior, but that may not happen until the weekend. So here's the only 3 pics I've got at the moment, from the dealership when I took delivery late Saturday afternoon.
435i Gran Coupe with M-Sport Package, Technology Package, Cold Weather Package, Driver Assist Package, and Lighting Package.
I am not here to knock Acura in any way, I'm still a fan of the brand, but the 435i is in an entirely different class. It's very hard to explain but the way it drives and the way it feels on the road cannot be compared to the TLX. It just feels rock solid, like it's planted to the pavement. I've only got 100 miles on it but so far, here's some of the things I love...
Engine/Transmission - Turbo charged inline 6 cylinder with a flat torque curve with 300 lb ft of torque from 1200-5200 RPM. It's got a ZF 8-speed transmission that works pretty damn good. It shifts fast and smooth, up or down, without the lag that plagues the ZF 9-speed in the TLX. The engine redlines at 7000 RPM but during the break-in period I'm not supposed to push it above 4000. But already, I can tell that this engine is a beast; It pulls so smooth and linear, I can't wait until I can really open it up. The stated 0-60 is 4.9s and this is a rather heavy vehicle. There is a $1500 dealer installed "M Performance Package Kit" available that takes the HP/Torque from 300/300 to 330/330. It consists of a new intake and a computer reflash. And since it's a factory/dealer item, it doesn't affect your warranty.
Adaptive M Suspension - ECO, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ modes change the throttle response, the steering feel, and also the chassis. The suspension stiffens up substantially in Sport/Sport+. You can cruise down the highway in comfort, somewhat isolated from the road harshness but with one push of a button the car instantly transforms, the suspension gets very tight (similar to my old 4G TL-SHAWD but even better). The front/rear weight ratio is exactly 50/50.
Exterior - The pics don't even do this car justice. I had every intention of buying another white car but when I saw this blue I fell in love. I have received 8 random compliments on this car in the 3-4 days I've owned it - more than my TLX got in an entire year. I really love the Acura Jewel Eye LED headlights but these lights look great too. The lighting package includes adaptive LED headlights and fog lights that change their pointing direction as you steer the car around corners.
Interior - The seats are comfortable and the adjustable side bolsters are the best thing since sliced bread. They also have adjustable thigh supports that extend outwards toward the dash for those of us with long legs. The car seats significantly lower than the TLX, I notice this every time I get in and out of the car (yes, probably getting old!).
My fiance really wants an MDX so I'm sure I'll be back with the Acura family soon enough - just not until they get rid of the 9-speed transmissions. So far, I really love the 435i and have only positive things to say about it. After I get some better pictures I will post those as well.

As far as the MDX goes, the 2017 MDX is going to have the option of the Sport Hybrid system that the RLX has, and that comes with a 7-speed DCT. So she might be able to get into one soon enough.

Nice car! Really like that color and the M-package!
But to be fair, at MSRP $60k, I'd totally expect your 435i gran coupe to be a whole lot better than a $40k TLX...lol...just like how a $41k TLX AWD Tech would be better than a $27k Civic Touring...huge price difference! At $60k, a closer match would probably be a 377hp 30mpg RLX sport hybrid.....hahaha

grats, enjoy the new ride. The ZF 8 speed is a honey of a transmission. I feel like its connected to my brain. Always seems to shift exactly when I want it to. I'm sure you've got plenty more power than you think, BMW known for under-rating engine specs.

I wasn't trying to do a 1-to-1 comparison to the TLX. It's not a fair comparison. I was just sharing my experience.

Very nice car congrats, on another planet compared to the TLX.
You can get that ZF transmission on a 28K Charger or Challenger.....and this blows a TLX out of the water too in power and road feeling...for less money...
This is exactly the same ride that a co-worker got when he traded his E90 3 Series, Charger RT with the Road & Track package.....at that time he was considering an Estoril Blue 328i (same paint of the OP 435i) he did not even know that Dodge had a similar color available (it's a historical color paint called B5 Blue). I did track it down for him and we took it for a spin.
Absolutely fully loaded except for the black painted roof, eventually he got one from a dealer closer to him, negotiated down to a hair under 38K + taxes and registration.
Sorry for the crappy pics
This is exactly how my friend that owns one describes it too when comparing it to his other vehicle which is a 2015 (might be a '14) MB E350 coupe. I can imagine how much it would blow the TLX or the TL out of the water but then again, it costs more.
Nonetheless, congrats again and happy motoring. Love the blue.

It is like you assume that BMW have no lemons.... in reality they have probably many more than Acura. And I can tell you that BMW doesn't solve their problems like Honda does.
Coming from 2 BMWs and the last one was a POS and a pain to bring at 85K miles ($8237 to be exact), I am so far happy with my TLX. I don't regret not having bought the F30 that I initially considered.

mojo_79....Congrats on your GORGEOUS BMW! You will have people that will say you made the right decision, others will say you made the worst decision ever! The only advice you should listen is your own....If you may allow me to voice mine though, I think you made a wicked choice! Color and model looks great Happy motoring.....

Maybe, just maybe, people spend more to get less, when compared to vehicles like the Charger for a variety of reasons other than raw horsepower.
On a different but related note, you sure did focus on the TLX component of my statement but glossed over when I mentioned something about the TL. Does your coveted 4G not get put into the equation? Let me guess, the TL competes with the 435i and Hellcat Charger right? Lol.

Nice BMW. I really can't say which one I like better between Acura and BMW. My sister has a 550, and has had more issues than I can count/remember. I had a 3 series, and had no issues for 4+ years.
Since making the switch to Acura (Gen 3, 4 and 5) I have no complaints other than the last 2 weeks. I'm still waiting to get my TLX back from the dealership as the windshield had to be replaced due to the service tech breaking off bits of glass while attempting to replace the sensors in my rear view mirror.
But I'm in a brand new MDX, so I can't complain too much. I did a complete Dynomat interior and trunk wrap and added an after market sub. So, I am missing that a LOT.

While we're comparing, with the money the OP spent on the Gran Coupe, he could have got the Scat Pack Charger or even the R/T model and had himself a much more powerful sport sedan. Amirite Saturno

You are making this comment based on an antiquated notion that certain cars (read American cars) are only about horsepower....and also because I'm sure you did not drive some of the newest American non premium sport sedans (Charger RT/Scat Pack/SRT 392 or Chevrolet SS).
Well, I have news for you...the Charger is actually quite refined, it handles very well, it has a very nice ride and with ton of latest tech and amenities...is not only about horsepower.
The Scat Pack and the SRT 392 are a bit too much for some folks (a bit louder and more in your face styling characterization), the RT is actually fairly quiet, more reserved but still with V8 power....some people like that.
Yes the 4G TL did punch well above its price tag when it was introduced, something that sadly cannot be said about the TLX under any aspects......the new Charger however punches even higher, if it were available in its current form when I got the TL I would have got one instead.
...and yes, magazines did put the TL in comparo tests against the 335i and the S4....sorry if the TLX cannot make the cut

OP, congrats on the BMW! Love the Gran Coupe. You mentioned you won't buy another Acura with a 9 speed. I felt the same way until I drove the '16 MDX, it drives MUCH better than my '15 TLX. The 9spd is actually an awesome transmission, but many folks have been soured on it because of the '15 TLX, what a shame. If you get the chance, you should test drive a '16 MDX, you'll be surprised by how much the tranny improved.

No one is saying the Charger is bad or a helluva bargain for what you get
Wait, now you're relying on magazines to back up your statements? You've implied or outright stated numerous times before that magazine comparos are basically good for nothing. From someone who compared and argued that their 4GTL is as good or better than a Porsche Panamera, I'm surprised you are relying on the validity of magazine comparisons.
I'm guessing you will be trading in your Q50 in short order for the Charger right?

I just countered your point. But, alas, keep assuming my 4GTL fanboi friend that I have no seat time in a Scat Pack or a 392. I will admit, I have not driven the Hellcat or the SS. You're good at assuming and stating your opinions as fact.
Well, for making that kind of comment yes I did assume...the new Charger is anything but unrefined....

I believe you are acting as a "reverse fanboy", your dislike for the 4G prevent you from admitting that it was actually a better car than a TLX....deal with it, it was form a sport sedan perspective,
I do not like the Lexus IS at all but I have to admit that it is a terrific small sport sedan

Yes, a SRT 392 is a strong contender among other choices.
