Real or faux wood?

hi guys, I want to know if the interior of TLX has real wood / aluminium on the dash or is it faux. It looks real good. Thanks.

Per this, its not real

"Faux wood and metal are convincing enough for the price point and segment, though it’s easy to spot the out-of-the-way areas covered in cheaper plastic. "

This is from a Honda Motor Co site, does could mean either, but I think it is faux. "High-gloss Zebra wood-finished trim and alloy accents"

So would someone please enlighten me as to why it makes a difference. If it looks good, feels good, does not fade or crack, then who cares.

If it is fake, it looks good enough to question....

Then there was our Lexus RX350 (long gone) and the salesman who got all huffy when I suggested the steering wheel was fake wood. I, a mere and lowly mortal, was told in no uncertain terms that it was the same wood that goes into Yamaha pianos, hand crafted by specialists. (Um, can you say CNC router?)

On our TLX, the faux wood works just fine, thank you very much.

Guys

Why are you jumping on the OP? He isn't saying TLX sucks or fake wood sucks.

He is merely ASKING a question whether it is real or not.

Some of you take this TLX thing too seriously

On the contrary, I like the TLX interior very much.
I think there is one way you can tell if the metal part is real or not. It feels cold to touch esp on colder days. May be one you guys can confirm that. Not that it matters much.

Huh? Who's giving the OP a hard time? If what you've seen here qualifies as a hard time... oh boy, you've missed some all out wars!

I actually feel this way about leather vs leatherette. I've never had a car with fake leather before, but I've had it in a few loaners and never got what the big negative deal was.

Just in case someone asks the owner/driver if that the car has "real' leather, that is what is important! Just like the "faux" wood trim.

We don't want to lie and say "Yes, of course it's real fine Corinthian leather with real burled wood trim!" right?

Some prefer leatherette as it holds up better long term.

And actually most leather seats don't have much leather in them - I believe the only portion on the TLX that's actually leather is the center strip,

so, if an alloy comprised with a little bit of plastic feels cold to touch, its real metal?

i think i answered that question for you.

an alloy which might be made of a little plastic will feel cold to touch and might not be real metal.

simply put for a car in this price range; will not have "real" materials but rather synthetic materials that feel great to touch and to look at and be durable enough to put up with "daily life"

Do owners of Bentley Arnage Red Label, often stop TLX owners and ask them what kind of leather or wood they have?

So real wood, vs faux wood, vs viagra wood, can be detected by feeling of fingers?

Guys, you are turning this into a low class male only forum. Please have some consideration for the female members on the site.

^ It seems you are offended by our humor?

I mean no disrespect here when I say that we are just having fun here and we don't need to be told that we are being "low class" by anyone. Our innuendos are just that. Methinks you need to loosen up and relax.

That's exactly what Acura says, almost to the word.

:-)

It looks okay. But you know how it is. We want to find things to pick on.

After looking really closely to the "wood grain" parts in our cars. I came to a conclusion that it looks more like film (hydrodipped) then real wood. Of course real wood would cost alot more to produce then hydrodipping parts. I work for an aviation company that produce custom interiors for private jets. Rather then using veneer wood for their cabinets they go the cheaper route and use wood film on their cabinets. The wood grain parts in our cars look more like film then real wood to me. It would also be cheaper to mass produce wood film then use real wood anyways. Every car company would like to keep cost as low as possible anyways unless you own like a Bentley, Rolls Royce, ETC.
