Keep LKAS engaged longer

Does anyone know how to keep LKAS engaged longer until it tells you to put your hands on the wheel? I do not want it to drive without me but I would like a little longer before you need to move the wheel. I have been able to tap the steering wheel at time to keep it engaged.

Please don't flame me for safety. I am still paying attention all around me I would just like a little bit longer before nagging messages come up.

There is no way to change it.

The LKAS provides enough time for me to open a water bottle, unwrap a burger, and search my doggy bag for napkins. Thats good enough for me.

Wait, its on a timer and dis-engages?

That's a real safety issue. Its should not dis-engage unless it cannot read the lines. To just shut off seems dangerous.

I also wish it would stay engaged longer, but there's no way of doing so. It's only a matter of time. If not in the 2018 MMC, I'm sure the AcuraWatch in the 2020 FMC would do this.

It is called lane keep assist for a reason. It will assist you to stay in the center of the lane. Its not an autopilot.

If the system does not sense your hand movement on the steering wheel for about 30 sec. It will prompt steering is require.

For safety reasons it should go one step further and disengage ACC (if on) after another 5 seconds and turn on the 4-way flashers.

During a long distance drive I make a slight pull on the steering wheel just before the message pops up. You can train your internal clock to do this about 90% of the time.

ANSWER: Get a phone mount that attaches to your steering wheel. It wraps around the side to hold your phone. This adds a bit of weight on it so it thinks you have input. I saw someone ductape a can of coke to their steering wheel (not recomended) so it senses the weight
