Any thoughts?
Hi!
I just want to have your thoughts about my experience at the dealer. I just came back from the dealer to take possession of my new Acura SH-AWD Advanced.
When I entered and started the car, I immediatly noticed that there's been roughly 700km on the odometer.
On my contract, the seller told me it's a brand new car they already had at the dealership and had only 20km on the odometer. !!
There's a big difference between 20 km and 700km.
I told him that I will not take possession of this car. We discussed with the sales director and immediatly they offered me to prepare another car for next week.
Do you think it was a demo car that they tried to sold me?
I agree to take another car (sane color and accessories) for next week.
Any thoughts on that?
Thanks

^^ Either a demo or one that they have had on the lot for quite a while and used for test drives. It is a shame that they tried to write your contract with 20km when it already had 700km. Sleezy actually if you ask me....

Did the VIN on the car match the contract? Maybe someone screwed up and readied the wrong car for you. Or, maybe they were trying to pull a fast one on you.

I would chose the 2nd option as I don't have the VIN written on the contract. On the contract though, they wrote 20km for the odometer.
I made them installed a rear spoiler ... which was done on this car.
I still guess they tried to pull a fast one on me because as soon as I told them that I don't consider 700km on a car is still a "new" car and won't take it, they did'nt argued and told me immediately that they can have another car ready for me next week and they apologized for that inconvenient.

That definitely doesn't sound right to me. I'm thinking someone screwed up, was lazy, or was trying to screw you. Just remember Hanlon's razor:
You should try to suck some more out of them for this. Intentional or not, it's their mistake so you should at least be able to get a spare tire kit :p
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Could have been an honest mistake. Could have been unethical intent. Remember, you are talking about a car dealer here. Personally, I wouldn't do business with a dealership that either makes that kind of mistake (just not professional, and it makes you wonder what kind of other mistakes they innocently or overtly "allow"). If it was intentional, well then enough said.

Well I'll let them another chance to prove me it was a mistake. I'll be double-checking everything when I take delivery next week for sure.
Not sure even if I want to, that I can back-up on the sale at this stage. I have a contract signed and also a deposit made for this buying. Pretty sure I am bound to the contract.
What I can do though is reconsider to do my repair service at another dealership in the future

trust is the ONLY thing that shouldn't be violated in a business transaction. i would be hard pressed to be able to do business with guys like that. your connundrum is interesting indeed and if I was you I would contact Acura to have a word about this shady dealer once the deal is done and over.

I'd make them either provide a different car or substantially drop the price on the 700km car since it's not new (as others have said, it may be used as a demo- that's not a bad thing necessarily, but it should be reflected in the price).

According to Edmunds.com, if there are more than about 300 miles on the car you need to negotiate a lower price. Personally I think even 300 miles is too much for a new car.

I have a good dealership and they have occasionally made a minor error that was quickly corrected. This is a major error, deliberate or otherwise. I would insist on an explanation, and also suggest they throw in something extra to compensate you for the inconvenience. If you are satisfied with the result, take the car and determine whether you should go for service elsewhere.

Hey thanks to everyone for their inputs
I have taken delivery of my new car this morning, and everything went fine!
Odometer: 12 km
I am satisfied with how they took care of the "problem" after my initial refusal.
The car is very cool... very happy with my purchase.
Very good community here and great members!

Congrats! And they even took 8km off for you, that's impressive
Now we need details!!!! Colors, Accessories, and Photos. Seriously, I'm glad they made it right for you, buying a new car is stressful enough without having to deal with those kinds of issues.

Advanced
You shouldn't have had to go through that in the first place but it's good news that you got what you expected in the end. Hopefully they continue to look after you.

Thanks everyone.
Very happy with the purchase up until now
Driving this car is amazing. I owned an Acura RSX 2002...and it is totally different feeling.
Here are the details:
TLX SH-AWD-Advanced
Graphite Luster Metallic/Ebony
Add-on: Rear spoiler and rear splash guard
Didn't accept any of the options proposed by the financial director
No tint
Here are two pictures taken minutes from getting home...

really appreciate the look the rear spoiler adds. Need to get mine on order to install. Glad it was worked out, as others stated, it would've been a mistake to take ownership of the car at that point.

Hi Cogentin ,
Congratulation for your new car.
Just for my curiosity , based on your pictures and house styles are you by any chance based on Quebec ? .
I'm from Laval.
Enjoy your car !

^^ The fact he said he has the "Advanced" model would suggest that he is not from Canada as we have the Tech and Elite models....but I could be wrong.

Glad everything worked out!
My is they tried to get away with something, but knew they were which is why they didn't press the issue. To them, if you didn't notice then they got rid of a car with ~430 miles which is a used car in most people's eyes. But since you caught it, they were ready with the alternative. I bet they try to deliver that car as new over and over again until someone doesn't catch it.

Doubt its a mistake, more like get as much as you can from the customer. My TL was contracted to be a 6MT & when I went to pick it up it was an AT all else the same as the contract except for the extra features the 6MT came with like LSD & Brembo brakes.
They were very apologetic & said for only $700 they could trailer an 6MT in from a sister dealer in Va.
I said no thank you very much & left. Before I got home there were a number of phone calls on the machine about the dreadful mistake & how of course there was no charge for bring the car to NC.
The nickname stealerships has meaning.

Momyc is right... I do come from Montreal
I'm surprise he could tell by looking at the housing? Interesting here. I thought it could be any other smala neighbourhood in the States.

Sorry for the confusion ... I meant all the way Elite. Thought Elite was equal to Advanced.

Hi congentin ,
I must say , I don't know why but the housing here in Quebec have that specific from your picture , especially on "older" area.
Also I think I can see "Je me souviens" on your car registration number and that's I asked.
That's mean the dealer was one from Montreal ?
Rgds.
