Rear Diffuser

I just installed the rear diffuser on my black RDX. Took about 90 mins. The diffuser is really small and doesnt cover up the view of the muffler and other stuff. I kind of expected it to cover more than it did.

Here's some pics before and after. You can see it doesnt make any major change in the appearance. If I had to do it over, I dont know if I'd do it.

Well I certainly wouldnt pay full retail of like $350 or something plus tax and installation for it.

Here's another pic of the diffuser painted sliver (borrowed this from someone here who painted theirs silver...forgot who)

Basic tools. Screw driver, 10mm wrench, 3, 6, 8, 11 mm drill bits. I used english drill bits that were close. Worked fine.

I'm thinking of painting the lower center of the front underbody spoiler silver. May ask the shop to paint the rear diffuser silver too.

I think the silver i nthe rear breaks up the back more and really defines it.

one thing I dont get is why they didnt make the rear diffuser larger. I mean, hang down lower. You can see the muffler, tail pipes and other stuff hanging much lower so it's not an issue of height.

If they made it lower, wouldn't it look awkward since it will hang lower than the rear bumper?

You only need to cut it if you have the Acura hitch. I have the Hidden Hitch and I didnt need to cut it

uscmfu,
Nope, if you read the instr it tells u to cut it out IF you have the trailer hitch. If you dont, or wont be getting one, then skip that step.

Can one of you guys post up the instructions that you use to remove the rear bumper for the project? I have something that I have to do that entails removal of the bumper.

Thanks

ucsmfu- Acura of Troy posted on eBay $351 for them. Great price.

wspy- you'll find all the instructions in a sticky at the top of this DIY section of the RDX forum.

it's pretty easy, remove the clips on the bottom, behind the mud flaps, 2 screws on the bottom, then the top part there's 2 screws each side beside the taillights n then you just snap off the back bumper, the clips can be a bitch to clip it back on if you don't align it properly

you can also find the instructions on the diy rear diffuser

hope that helps

Darn it! It was there yesterday. That was a really good price too. You may want to call them on the phone and mention that old price and see what they say.

Now it shows the lowest seller at $395 from Acura of Temecula. Still good, but not terrific.

Maybe you should start another thread asking this?

Here's a link to an eBay seller with some other styles;

Does that diffuser have any performance gain to it or is it just for the looks? Btw, it looks great!

Ferrari's 360 Modena diffuser looks wicked sick and form follows function in this case. I'd save my money for something else for the RDX however. This will not function as a "real" rear diffuser and is hype for marketing/ customization.

Agreed. You can't make a truck into a supercar no matter how hard you try. The RDX is no GranTurismo and if any wind makes it out from underneath that mess of an undercarriage, it certainly will not be helped by a 2.5ft peice of carbon fiber and glue. Save you money.

It seems like on ebay the only rear diffusers available are for 2007-09 models. Will it work on 2010-11?

thanks

I think the Mugen rear bumper/diffuser might work for the later ones. The newer rear RDX bumper seems to be the same cut as the earlier year CR-V ones. At least at a glance anyways...it'd be interesting to find out..

Hey Ya'll,

I'm going to be receiving my rear diffuser sometime next week from currys.

I thought I would add onto this old thread because it offers perspective on black.

I have an 09 black RDX - you think the rear diffuser would look better as is (dark grey) or painted black matching the colour as much as possible?

I'm totally on the fence - what you guys think??

Thanks

could also paint it another colour too.

I've been noticing the benz suv's rear diffuser - look sick in chrome.

I think the grey will stand out more on black.
I also agree that chrome will look sick; I would love to know if you can find some place in Canada that will do chrome plating on plastics.

Black painted diffuser could look nice but may be too subtle. Not sure if chrome plating is possible on plastic but ill be sure to post if I find anyone
