Hulk Hogan jury adds $25.1 million to Gawker's liability in sex tape case - Mar. 21, 2016
Jurors in the Hulk Hogan sex tape case ignored a plea for mercy Monday and added another $25 million to the $115 million they already awarded ex-wrestler Hulk Hogan.
The jury deliberated nearly four hours before deciding on the punitive part of the case.
Hogan had sued Gawker, founder Nick Denton and former editor A.J. Daulerio for violating his privacy by posting a snippet of a sex tape.
The six jurors said that Gawker was liable for $15 million in punitive damages and Denton was liable for $10 million. Daulerio was found liable for an additional $100,000.

I think it's kind of bullshit how women always demand equal rights in everything, but when it comes to divorce, they always get waaaay more and you never hear them complaining that they're getting too much. Equal rights for everything, except for where they get the upper hand... Hmmm...
Hogans kids are grown up and gone aren't they? It's not like his ex wife was still raising them. So she got 70% of everything he had, for sitting on her fat ass and doing nothing.
And maybe it's just me, but I've never heard of a woman cheating on her husband, going through divorce and then having to pay the father alimony if he keeps the kids. Does that happen? It always seems that the mother ends up with the kids 97% of the time, as if only women know how to raise a child...
I'm ranting here, but I just don't get it...

Ideally, feminism would be all about equality. But it's not.
Anyway, it's messed up all around. The Hulk got consentual head and had reason to believe he would be recorded. However, the video was unexpectedly plastered over the internet. He was awarded $110 mil.
Someone mentioned Erin Andrews was stalked and secretly recorded, and her video was posted online as well. She was awarded less than half of that?

Not 100% on this, but I think Hogan got more money because Gawker most likely made bank off of it. The Erin Andrews case was about the hotel owner allowing her stalker to take the room next to her to film her. I don't think the video was sold... was it? Either way, good for her taking the hotel to the cleaners

I recall an interview Hulk did where he explained something about not wanting to leave his childrens' mother out on the streets. That's why he left her a good chunk of money.
Which is just a nice way of saying living off a rich husband led to her being sheltered and having no real ability to fend for herself in society.

The laws are not so biased to women that she'd get a straight 70% of everything. Not even close. I'm sure if you looked at all his assets - the part that was included in the divorce and those that weren't (like the tape) - that percentage is probably a lot lower. She got 70% of a portion of his assets, not 70% of his entire net worth.

Interesting article in NYT about the theory that Hogan's lawsuit and other suits against Gawker are being funded by an unknown 3rd party. Gawker's pissed someone off and they want them gone.

As for the lawsuits against Gawker Media, “the evidence has built up over time that there are questions that are unanswered here,” Mr. Denton said. “The data point that really got us thinking was the move that they made on insurance, which seemed designed to prevent insurance paying for our defense.”
Mr. Denton is referring to a decision by Mr. Hogan’s legal team to abruptly drop one of the claims — for “negligent infliction of emotional distress” — from its case. That claim had a particularly special meaning: It was the one claim that required Gawker’s insurance company to pay for its defense as well as potential payouts in the case of a settlement. (That provision of Gawker’s insurance policy became public after the insurance company, Nautilus, sued Gawker to try to limit payment for defense.)
Several legal experts said that it was particularly unusual for a plaintiff using a lawyer being paid on a contingency basis not only to turn down settlement offers (several sizable settlements were proffered by Gawker) but also to pursue a strategy that prevented an insurance company from being able to contribute to a settlement.
“It’s a very unusual thing to do, because the insurance company would have deeper pockets than Gawker,” said Larry Geneen, a risk management consultant who has long dealt with lawsuits involving insurance companies. “I’ve never had a situation where the plaintiff intentionally took out the claim involving the insurance company.”
And given that Mr. Hogan has had financial ups and downs, the cost of the hundreds of motions his lawyers made is significant, and the chances the award is significantly reduced based on previous cases he lost making the same claims in federal court, it’s hard to completely understand the motivations at play.
