Sorry to revive a slightly defunct thread, however I find tattoo's perfectly fine so long as they're tasteful. Tramp stamps don't fall into that category, however I've only dated one girl without tats, and frankly prefer them. I don't have any myself, mostly because I don't have anything meaningful to get done.

I work at a college and I gotta say, it is really sad to see a nice young attractive girl with nice legs get a tattoo. I have heard that tattoo removal is becoming a really big business these days. Please girls, think hard before you mess up your body with tattoos.

Don't make the mistake that one of my patients did. She had a tattoo placed on her lower abdomen when she was single and in her 20s. Thirty years later, she was a grandmother who desperately wanted it removed.

So I asked her, "Just how bad is it?"

Very bad.

She pulled down the waist of her pants to reveal the following words, in large lettering: "Dinner is served."

Personally I don't like tats, don't think I'll ever get one. My wife has one, I don't care for it but I'm used to it and it's hidden. We've argued over her wanting more, I can't stop it but I wouldn't be happy about it. I don't judge people with tattoos in general but if someone had a really large tacky/trashy tattoo in a very visible location honestly I would look down on them, it's a sign of poor judgment. Whether or not it's fair too, it can hurt you landing a job having any visible tattoos, I think it's kinda short sited to get them.

Date a Jewish girl. Definitely frowned upon in our religion. Goes back to the Holocaust when they tattooed people in the concentration camps.

The woman with the teeny shorts has bigger judgement issues than her off-center tat.

I think it's entirely reasonable to "judge a book by its cover" if someone has an awful tattoo. Personally I still think sleeve tattoos are hideous and pretty ridiculous too.

Ever made a mistake? Is there any single thing in your life that you wish would have worked out differently? If you had to carry a sign around stating that to the world, would you want people to judge you entirely by what was on the sign before they could even ask you about it?

Biggest contradiction ever and pretty much invalidates most of the reasonable things you said.

I said I generally don't judge, but I'm gonna have a hard time taking Gucci Mane seriously. There's a difference between something sentimental to you on your arm/back/chest etc vs an ice cream cone on your face.

I'd agree. I don't react at all to anyone who has a tattoo just because they have one. Actually I find them interesting, and when you talk to people with them they usually have very interesting stories behind them. To me it's your skin - do what you want with it.

But, it's also unreasonable to get a tattoo on your face and not expect people to react to it. Or that "butterfly" tattoo above - you can't wear that and then be offended that men make assumptions about your character. Dave Chappelle said it best.

The girl says “Oh uh-uh, wait a minute! Wait a minute! Just because I’m dressed this way does not make me a whore!” Which is true. Gentlemen, that is true. Just because they dress a certain way doesn’t mean they are a certain way. Don’t ever forget it. But ladies, you must understand that is … confusing. It just is. Now that would be like me, Dave Chappelle, the comedian, walking down the street in a cop uniform. Somebody might run up on me, saying, “Oh, thank God. Officer, help us! Come on. They’re over here. Help us!” “Oh-hoh! Just because I’m dressed this way does not make me a police officer!” See what I mean? All right, ladies, fine. You are not a whore. But you are wearing a whore’s uniform.

I love Dave :nohomo:, but that argument doesn't really apply to tattoos.

Reading this again made me realize something else. How could you possibly know if you think a tattoo is trashy without automatically judging it? It's like saying, "I don't judge people unless they are ugly." You pretty much are saying that you don't have harsh feelings for people only if they have tattoos that you feel are acceptable. I'm not trying to rag on you; I'm just trying to point out the flaws in your and anyone else's rationalization of being judgemental about people you know nothing about.

People have to take responsibility for how they present themselves. Sure, in a perfect world we'd all be able to appear however we want and no one would apply any pre-conceived notions or stereotypes. We'd all "get to know someone on the inside" before deciding anything about their character. But that world will never exist. Everyone judges appearance in different ways. That's not a flaw in anyone's logic - it's practical reality. The only logic flaw exists in the mind of people who think they can present clear messages with how they present themselves and then are offended when people react accordingly.

If a woman has handle bars tattooed on her lower back she's telling everyone something about herself. She shouldn't be surprised when men treat her accordingly. Maybe she's a virgin with a heart of gold, but that's not the uniform she's wearing.

I suppose I was under the impression that we were lumping everyone with tattoos into some defined category of people. Obviously, if someone has gang signs tattooed on their face, you are going to assume they belong to a gang. Similar to the handle bars you mentioned. Those are explicit symbols of a group that those people can be lumped into. I got the feeling that some people were saying that tattoos in general can be used to assume things about people, not just specific tattoos symbolizing obvious ideologies.
