any bolt on 6spds run a C5 vette?

I've been wanting to run one for awhile now but there is usually a lot of traffic or cops out when ive had the opportunity to line up with one. I just want to see how Id do against one...pretty sure it would be a good race...

I did race my buddies 04 e55 from a 50 punch ...had a half car on him till ~ 70 then he just walked me by 1 1/2 cars till ~ 100 where i shut it down he was steadily pulling...that car is beast.

any stories would be nice, im stuck at work bored!

Funny, I was just heading into the Street Encounters area to post on this subject.

About two years ago I beat a convertible C5, non-Z06, automatic.

Today on the way to a meet I pulled on a non-Z06 C5 coupe. I started at his back bumper, he floored it, it kicked down a gear, I dropped it from 6th to 4th and by the end of 4th had a nose on him.

From a dig theyd beat us, but from a roll a properly modded CL-S6 can beat it. I believe the earlier model C5s (which are the only models Ive had the pleasure of running) were only rated at 350hp.

Morgan, I can see you hanging with one from a roll, but you don't have the 'typical' bolt on CLS-6. MAYBE a full bolt on/tuned 6 speed with God at the wheel, but other than that no way. Their 1/4 mile ETs range from 12.66 (best I've seen) to mid 13s @105-111 (depending on trans/convertible). I could see a vert/auto being a decent race (still with the Vette as the victor), but other than that no way. Although weird anomolies do happen on the street......

Morgan, every run I've seen you post you mention dropping into 4th. Why not 3rd? Lol. Anything at or under 80mph in 4th is below the powerband, even with your torque.

I get a better pull from ~3-4k rpm in fourth then I would at ~5k in 3rd. I run very rich up top, so Id rather have about 3k revs to play with then 1k before shifting. My torque falls off at about 5300rpm, peak HP is only around 6200rpm. But, if we hit it from below 65, then yea, Ill be in third.

Ive never raced a Z06, I know theyll destroy me - especially since most around here are modded. But the base C5 Vette, from a roll, isn't all that fast.

^ Those numbers I posted were of Base model C5 Vettes. The auto convertible is the one that showed 105mph traps. That's the slowest of them all. I've seen traps as high as 111 bone stock. They make 350hp, but also only weight what, 3200lbs?

You're saying you get a better pull below VTEC than in it? I can understand running rich, but that seems very off. Your car is much faster than mine, but if you were in 4th at 70 and I was in 3rd, I'd imagine I would pull on you until you were in your powerband. This is meant with no offense and no desire to start an argument. As I said, I know your car is much faster, but it seems odd you would experience a better pull from 3-4K, out of VTEC, then upwards of 5K, even if you are running rich. I can tell you I'm running rich up top as well, but my car pulls much harder at 6K then at 3-4K. I don't see why yours would be any different.

My power is trailing off at 6k, it doesnt pull harder there then it would at 4k, since at 4k, its still building power.

At 4k Ive already got around 255wtq on tap, which contiues to build up to ~275wtq at around 5200. At 6k I have about 260wtq, but between 6k and 7k, I drop off to ~200wtq.

Peak horsepower is at 5860rpms. Thats also why I usually shift around 6-6500rpms.

The powerband between my old 3.2l and this motor has shifted lower. On the 3.2, peak horsepower came in around 6400rpms. When I finally tune my car and get the last little pieces Im waiting for on, Im sure Ill have to adjust to the powerband once again.

Ah, I see. I thought the 80mm setup would make power to redline. Fair enough lol.

Sadly, with the 80mm tb, my injectors are saturating (sticking open), which is why at high RPMs Im running boosted AFRs Im sure with a proper tune it will make power to redline.

Would love to see the expression of an unsuspecting vette owner face when an Acura pulls away from them. LOL

I smoked a c5 vette but it was not in a straight line. We both were taking a left turn and heading for a highway on ramp. He didn't stand a chance from a stop.

I did better than a z06 c6 at autocross but that is easy.
