Your Top Three "Weekend Toy" Vehicles for $20-25k
#41
I just did a quick eBay search and it returned four Supra. Most expensive was $25k (with 0 bids), one had a Buy It Now for ~$24k and two are in progress... one is at $8,500 and one is at $15,200.
So yeah, looks like you can definitely find a 1994 Supra for under $30k... even under $25k.

My list which im sure i will expand on later...

I'd say an E46 M3 but thats too practical for a weekend car.

Fitment isn't an issue; I'm dropping pounds every week. I'm just not 100% sure it's the best car for the money/goal. I'm in no hurry to buy. Maybe this winter. But if I buy a car before I buy a ring I'm going to need to find a new place to live.

The S2K is up there on the list but I'm not 100% sold on it. They're a dime a dozen around here; I see 6 or 8 every single day and my commute is only 6 miles each way.

Just over a month to go for me.. then the S2k

The leg room measurement is actually longer in the S2000 than the CLS, Boxster, or 350Z. It's the hip room that's narrow. It's 3" more narrow than the CLS and nearly 4" more narrow than the Boxster and 350Z.

I was reading and thinking the NSX wasn't gonna make it anyone's books.
Last time I checked, there were 1991-94 NSX's going for around 18-23K with anywhere from 80K to 130K on AT.
Still a sweet handling car, and has a timeless look. Those things still turn heads and they haven't been changed much from their introduction.

A manual, turbo Mk. IV Supra under $25k is a rare beast, especially in unmolested condition. Even more rare than NSXs. For example (the ONLY manual, turbocharged Supras in my area):

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/1298959225.html
most of the ones going for less than $25k are super high mileage or have problems, or are 5-speed base Supras with a 1JZ/2JZ swap. You don't get the stout 6-speed manual though.

Height is an issue too, but one I can deal with (I'm 6'2"). Once I get my legs under the dash/steering wheel I'm okay. It's getting them there that's the problem.

twin turbo manual? mmm...... i dont think so. even a single turbo manual is super hard to find. but to me... i wouldnt buy a 94. id buy a 97 twin turbo stick. and while that does cost for a fact 30k+ ..... itd be worth it to me for more than 10 year old car, because its a timeless classic in my book.
All simply state '94 Supra. You then replied that a '94 Supra cannot be had for under $30k. My replies states eBay proves different.... which is a fact as anyone can search it and turn up the results I found.
If you would like to throw oranges into a discussion about apples, that's fine... but bottom line is that per the article, AMAN's post, and classifieds you can indeed have a 94' Supra for well under $30k. If you would like to discuss newer Supra's with higher end configurations then take it to a different topic, b/c that is not what was mentioned in this discussion.

If it's a honest to goodness completely impractical toy. I think I would be looking at a 90's caterham super 7. It's seems that the early 90's 140 hp model runs 20-30k dollars.
I have no idea how reliable they are, but that is part of the fun of a toy.

although we have all established (including me on page 1) that it is indeed a balanced car and fun to drive or else it just couldn't properly be called a Porsche!

I'd take an S2000 over a Boxter any day. More powerful, less common (here anyways) and as much fun as the Boxter may be to drive, most people I see driving it are all female, driving automatic Boxters simply for the badge. And it's not like the S2000 is a boring car, anyways.
Now if we could fast-forward 4 years to when we could get a Cayman S for under $25k...
Civic SiR hatch? 300ZX? 350Z? early 2000 M5? WRX STi? EVO VIII, IX? Mazdaspeed Miata, or maybe an original Miata boosted. Ive seen some in the 260-300 hp range, in that car, which would be a blast.

this touches on my argument. in general I do not like convertibles! i can forgive the S2000 for being a convertible since it looks amazing and has an easy to find hardtop available. The boxster is just an ugly car IMO and it being covvertible doesn't help it...

you wont find a high wing 6 speed for less then 25k. thats for sure.
as for my list..
e39 m5. can find a good used one for 15-20k now
850 csi, easily achieved for sub 25k
surprised noones mentioned this.. an nsx?

You fail to see the point, enough with the grasping for straws. That particular M3 is a 2004 and it has 75,xxx miles but that's average considering its a 5-6 year old car. The maintenance on it would be more important anyway, I would rather take a 2002 with 80,000 highway miles on it with all service records than a 2006 with 15,000 miles on it, abused to shit on the track.
2002 C5 Z06 - 24,xxx miles
2004 E46 M3 - 49,xxx miles
Do your research

Whats up with RDX owners?

Does it have to be between $20-25k or up to $25 k? If not:
-S2000
-K-swapped Mini or CRX
-Triumph Daytona 675

Look up "Lotus 7" or "Lotus Seven" in the Sports Car Club of America regionals' ads, or maybe Hemmings or E-Bay.
Autoweek sometimes has ads as well, but not for >$25K used ones.
The Caterham is the official continuation of the Lotus Super 7, which was pretty popular at autocross events. Little or no windshield, no heater, no radio, truck-stiff suspension with almost no ground clearance.... too extreme for me, even for a weekend car.
