What car would you replace your 3G with for $15K?

What's up guys,

Just wondering what kind of cars you would have in mind to replace your 3G if it comes time to buy and have $15K to do it.

I just got my 3G in April and loving the ride. It's my wife's turn now to start looking and we are people that pretty much pay cash for our cars, just need some thoughts on what you guys would be thinking about as a replacement.

The 3G gives me the right balance of performance and refinement, so we looking for the same thing. I do not mind having another 3G in the garage but just seeing if you all had any other models that would offer the same kind of balance our cars have.

Thanks for the help!

for $15k, none.

the 3G was truely one of the last "value balance" cars.
now, for $20k you can get a brand new value balanced car.

but for $15k, you're very limited to Hondas.

Thanks for the tip, in that case, we just need to save up a little more. Or just talk to the wife about another 3G. I haven't brought it up, but I don't think she won't mind since she loves driving my car and we often switch.

So I guess for $20k, what would you guys have in mind?

The G37 is 2008 and up. If you want to opt for a G35 instead you'll want 2007 and up to stay in the fourth generation (aka G3X second gen).

The "x" denominator (G35x/G37x) denotes all-wheel drive if that's of interest to you.

Interior kinda sucks, but what about an older Subaru WRX, non STI? Damn if you found a clean STI version for $15k I would probably wanna buy it instead.

G37, FX35 (maybe 37)

Maxima

You don't have a lot of choices for $15k that is still somewhat reliable and offer similar things as 3G.

Thanks guys for all the tips! I never really thought about Infiniti much and I don't know why. But I will be doing some research. We are not in a hurry to purchase a car, but thought we were ready with $15k. If I'm limited to the car choices, we minus well wait to save up a little more and get many more choices. Shoot, we waited a couple months to get $15k, so why not wait a little more....

Hands down the best bang for your buck for 15k would be an older bmw 335i.. like 07-10.

Much faster than your tl, much better handling, muuuuuuch more tunable.

That n54 engine is legendary. With like 500 bucks you can get a jb4 tune for 50+ more hp and that's only stage one. You can get 400+ hp so effortlessly with that car.. get a performance exhaust too while you're at it, but if you aren't much of a tuner then i unno, get a g35 or a lexus Is350.

If you're looking for a car with potential though? Bmw 335i hands down no question, no comparison what so ever, well if you're talking all seasonal cars... cus with 15k you can also get a decent mustang but do you wanna drive that in the winter?

Isn't that the year with the infamous HPFP failure issue..?

My friend had the same one and after 3 broken fuel pumps (CA Lemon Law), the dealer cut him a check for the car in full and he bought an m3 instead...

hell for 15K i wouldn't buy a BMW, where's the other 15K coming from for maintenance?

lol, then he can pay $15k over the next few years maintaining it.

OP, if I were going to replace a 3G for $15k I'd definitely buy a Sebring Silver on black 2004 Honda S2000 with 39k miles on it.

In all honesty, for that budget go find a 4 cylinder Accord that's relatively new. You can probably get a 2012 or newer Accord EX with 40-50k on it for right around $15k.

What the hell is the difference? Fuck, some people are dumb...

Driving a RWD Mustang in the winter is a bad idea, but driving a 400+HP RWD 335 is an excellent idea.

lol yeeup. Id recommend an 09 or 10, better parts, the issue is a lot less common/non existent. Regardless though, warranty covers it. These problems are gone 2011 and up but those are well over 15k.. plus they replaced the n54 with the n55. The twin turbo in the n54 reponds better to mods.

Personally, i wouldnt get an M3. A 335i's performance is simply waaay too similar to an M3's to really convince me that it's worth it. With the prices they asking for M3's, you could get something much nicer. Plus it's just too easy to tune a 335i to walk an M3 and you'd still have money left over. That's just my opinion though.

Simple really.

Generally speaking, Mustangs are not cars people really drive in the winters, generally speaking ofcourse. They get babied and sleep in garages all winter long. If we are talking stock, no tunes? Most mustangs have more torque than a 335i, hit the gas at the wrong time/turn and your tail end goes flying which is another reason why most wouldn't drive them in the winter. Also a 335i has better handling, and is a more comfortable daily driver. So even though they are both Rwd cars, the 335i is a more suitable DD/all season car... & 09 and up, you can get the 335i in awd so....

It was all just a suggestion, but i would stop at a stage 1 jb4 tune on the 335i, anything higher and you should be upgrading suspension and brakes to handle the power so no, it wouldn't climb to 400hp+. I simply made the suggestion cus.. well.. why not? 50 more hp for ONLY 500 bucks? Thats an insane deal, might as well get it.

Anyway, we all know what maintenance on a bimmer can be, i only brought it up because the OP mentioned he wanted performance & luxury like the TL. The is350 & g35 are great options too and are just as quick below 60mph if we talking stock. The 335i only outshines both when you start modding cus of that n54.

So...who here would spend 15k on a used 335 from 07-10...which will have well over 100k on the odo...and then decide its an even better idea to start spending money on modding it?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? put your hand down sayitainttom...Anyone? Really, no one? I didn't think so.

As I former MS6 owner, I'd pass. I think the G37 sounds like the perfect comparable car to a TL. The MS6 is finicky, especially when modding it, and despite having a 4 cylinder it gets pretty crappy MPG.

If you're spending $15k on a MS6, you overpaid for it.

Everything they said is true, except for the 1/4 mile speed.
I have had 2 G35 coupe and 1 G37S Coupe myself.

But there are a few drawbacks with G37. Just to give you a heads up, so there is no surprise later on.

- It gets no where close to your 3G TL MPG in real life regardless what it says on paper, but highway is not bad.
- car is significantly stiffer than TL
- the backseat in the Sedan is awkwardly uncomfortable, go sit in one and you will know.
- Make sure you get the S

I had a fully bolted BT MS and loved every second of it. For this guy, yes i'd reccomend being mechanically inclined and do some research. I did almost everything myself including the tuning. It's a very fun car and when properly maintained a pretty good one. Fairly inexpensive for the level of fun and type car, AWD turbo.
