if we didnt go through the Bangle model, would BMW have evolved into the ones we know today?

Probably not but I'd probably be ok with that. The E38, E46, and E39 were all stunning. I'd almost love to see an evolution of that design and not an evolution of the Bangle crap.

I am amazed as well how many times I'll see families in older German cars (90's-00's) and they are running like a top. I wouldn't even classify the income of the drivers. I have seen many upper-middle class and higher folks in older German cars that just use them as commuters or airport vehicles and they just love them. Still nice cars, no problems, no fuss.

But yeah, once you get into the high models (example 7 series and S-class as discussed), you're making a pretty big jump in technology since those cars are usually the pioneers of technology that then trickles down the lineup.

Definitely. I see MANY older BMW's and Mercs on the road ALL the time and like you said, they run amazingly and the bodies are usually in excellent condition. The reason I mentioned income was because in all honesty not many average people can afford 1-5k+ repairs (that everyone mentions when speaking about ALL German vehicles) and the way I was saying it was that if these lower income people are running these cars with zero issues, clearly they are not having those multi-thousand dollar repairs or even multi hundred dollar repairs.

I will say though, that if you are buying a car that was around 100k plus when new, don't be surprised if it costs more to maintain. I have been looking quite a bit at the Audi Q5 myself. I think it is an awesome package and from what I read, the only issue is carbon buildup from DI tech (easily resolvable via manual cleaning every 30-50k miles and a catch can). Let's be honest here, not even Acura's are "reliable" these days.

The one last thing is (as with every other brand) to wait a year or two when a new model comes out. The Germans tend to really push the envelope and are almost always at the cutting edge of technology, therefore it is wise to wait a little while and let them work out the kinks.

Since we're well past the original request of the OP anyway...

I really want to pick up a W220 S class and daily drive it. Nothing better than riding around in a pretty reliable $100k car I can buy for $6k.

haha as soon as OP comes back, we'll get back on topic.

That sounds like a damn good deal to me! Speaking of which, I was rear ended by one a few months back while driving our 09 santa fe. Slight crack in my rear bumper about 2" wide but his car was written off, multiple air bags deployed, hood scrunched up into wind shield and his radiator and a bunch of stuff behind it was gone with fluid leaking all over the place....Santa Fe 1, German tank 0.

Bitter sweet. First time since 2001 I don't have a TL in the garage. Last pic I took of the TL at the Merc dealer

I have to say that while I'm not in love with the rear of the C CLass, in the high performance trims the styling upgrades do improve it a lot. Congratulation again.

Thanks! Enjoying the car, I do miss the size of the TL sometimes but the MDX is filling that gap.

I was driving behind a silver C43 yesterday on the commute to work. I look closer on the rear and the guy replaced the 'C' with an 'E'... WTF... Seriously? I pulled up next to him, pointed at the trunk and shook my head in disdain... What a low self esteem clown...

The calipers were grey, and i just confirmed the OP's are as well. It had the faux-quad integrated tips. Wasn't sure if those came with brembos and this idiot rebadged a base C class...

Congratulations on a very beautiful C43!!!

Just in case you ever get the urge for more power, Renntech makes a stage 1 and stage 2 ECU re-calibration tune.

lol... it was probably a real E Class. So really, he should have been shaking his head at you in disdain.

Haha, thats great. I didn't know they changed the E class to make it look identical to the C, and they use the same engine so both are 43...

The E looks like MB just printed out the engineering drawings of the C at a 1:1.25 scale and called it good.

I really like everything about the C class, except for the awful after thought of an iPad that they stick in the interior and for that sole reason, I wouldn't consider one.

Nonetheless, congrats OP, she's a beaut.
