Would be nice, but headers will run you a pretty penny as well, sir. I think you'll get much more joy out of a full exhaust.

Not to mention the install rate on headers will suck.

Plus, you can install an cat-back easily at home

Manae stopped by tonight to see the new toys on the Stingray. We talked about the Carbon Fiber side vents and upper vents. He said to pull the trigger on them......

Instead of that you should pull the trigger on some loud pipes

Guys, I was looking at the car again today-I might not be able to do the vents after all......and here's why.

In order to get to the vents, you must remove or partially remove the quarter panels. I just realized (looking at the car), what is in between BOTH front and rear quarter panels?

The carbon fiber side skirts............which cannot be removed. Remember, the side skirts reach from front quarter panel all the way to the back quarter panel. The side skirts are connected with both screws AND double sided 3M tape.

I watched a video today where the rear quarter panel was only partially removed (in order to reach the top vents. BUT.....that means the side skirts still are attached to the quarters. So that means the side skirts would need to be bent out in order to reach the vents.

I don't think the side skirts would survive. If that is the case, it isn't worth it to me to risk ruining the side skirts.

I might have to do headers and/or exhaust!

^^^ Thanks Austin!

Now, because I can't put on the side vents and upper vents, I'm done with aesthetics. I'm considering the headers and exhaust. But honestly, the Stingray has plenty of growl and more than enough power.

I like to get head on my birthday, so I think the most appropriate gift to the Vette is head-ers.

Lot of track guys on Rennlist are hesitant to throw that kind of money on them as they don't think they're a proven concept, yet. The fear of them failing on their already expensive cars is a nail in the coffin for most.

CF wheels are well proven on the track in the motorcycle world. It's the street where they are not recommended; they can't stand up to potholes. They're cool, but not worth it for a street car.

I bought a set pretty cheap for my lawnmower off of craigslist. Got my cut time down about 11 minutes overall.

They seem to think otherwise & specifically quote CF wheels on motorcycles as to why they come to the conclusion.

The price doesn't really cut the weight you save, either.
Weighed at shop. Rears in porsche sizes are about 18lbs rear and 16lbs front. That's 68lbs. OEM set is about 110 lbs (boat anchors). My fikse 18" are 84lbs.

Can't deny that weight, but the price.... When talking with their lead engineer, I said if you want sell a boatload of them: make them in 18", make them 1/2 the price on par with quality forged or multi-piece, and PROVE they have track durability.

Do they have sources for the CF motorcycle wheel issues? There's tons of guys that race on a national level (I'm not counting the factory racers), and they love them. The lighter wheel is instantly noticed on a motorcycle. The only failures I've seen were either due to crashes - which there's much bigger things to worry about than your wheels - or guys aiming for potholes on the street.

On a motorcycle, the wheels typically run ~$4k from BST or Dymag. Its expensive, but at that level, it makes a difference.

I personally wouldn't put CF wheels on a street car (or my motorcycle). However the exorbitant price on a Porsche is probably due to the Porsche tax.

These guys are quoting from their own experiences.
personally I don't think,it's all that wise to drove on cf wheels. I rode on cf bike wheels and have seen major failures. but crashing down hill at 40 mph is not the same as crashing on track at 120
Yep. Seen that on a bike. My biggest fear is the random people using random equipment to force rubber on cf wheels creating stress on the material...
yep
on clinchers u destroy them during mount and dismount or u over brake and heat up tube than pop.... after my buddy went down next to me, I got rid carbon clincher and on CF tubulars now.
Regardless, they're really overpriced for the gains. A good Fikse set at $5,000 (being generous, maybe more, maybe less) saves just under 30lbs. from the OEM. Is $10,000 really worth the extra 20lbs?

I don't see anything there related to failures of the wheel, thats failure of the technician mounting the tire on said wheel. Those same things can happen on a magnesium or even aluminum wheel. I'm also not entirely sure they're talking about motorcycle wheels, as a clincher is used on a bicycle (the mention of a tube tipped me off):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E4MRU08/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?creative=395097&creativeASIN= B00E4MRU08&linkCode=df0&pc_redir=1414219651&ref_=a sc_df_B00E4MRU083370695&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pg-46-94-20

That said, I agree with you that they are not worth it (yet) for a car.
