When my GF yells at me "you just wasted 1 gallon of gas for that!!!", i tell her it is not Miles per gallon, it is SMILE per gallon!! she became quiet after that, works everytime.

Tell yourself that sometimes =)

if you drive that much, why don't you keep the civic as DD and get a fun car? i think that is cheaper than getting 2 new cars.

nevermind, just re-read your situation. So you are giving her your civic and trading in HER Avalon for something for yourself. ! Like a BOSS!!

Focus ST!! just stay out of boost and you will get 30mpg.

So I did my oil change today after work.. I went damn near 11k on the oil after being 765 miles past due per maintenance minder

98% percent of those miles are highway miles.

He's doing it right.

Bryan, how long have you had the car for now? 30k doesn't sound too bad for 1.5ish years, does it?

I bought it April 30th of last year.

Just tore apart the front end to check the foglights. Still nothing. I have to go to Honda when I have time.

I'll probably keep it. She wants to get something herself in a few months. I kinda wish I waited another couple months as the new Mazda 3 and Corolla came out. Both are more loaded for the same cost-ish. And I'm not sure if I'd be having the small issues I'm having with my Civic. I almost bought an Accord Sport at the time I bought the Civic, but they were so high in demand, that a deal (invoice cost)couldn't really be made on one.

I bought the Civic because I needed an appliance, and it's been good. I just expected better from a brand new car. Hell, our Avalon is almost ten years old, and there hasn't been a thing wrong with it except for the floor mat recall.

Yup. The whole light stalk was replaced to accommodate the foglight switch.

Tore apart the dash and steering column to check it all out. If that were the case, the headlights wouldn't work either. There's just one plug for the combination switch. The light on the dashboard still comes on when the fogs are on, but they just aren't getting power.

are you getting power at the relay to turn it on? if you are, then do you:

1. have +12V at the relay?
2. When it is on, do you have +12V on the relay output?

here is a 2005 civic hybrid diagram but your car should be similar in concept

here is another one for a 2007 again this might help

So this happened on the first part of my drive on Friday. I was able to hit 45mpg for the first 50 miles of my drive. I got it up to 45.6 after I took this picture, Then I hit the foothills, and it dropped to 41mpg.

After 155 miles, I was able to bring in 42.6 mpg. No hyper mile techniques or anything. Was either at the speed limit (55) or five or ten over.

None really.. There was the usual weekend crowd headed out, so traffic was moderate, but I still made it in just under 2.5 hours.

At 35k now.

Foglights fixed. The dealer tried to deny my warranty claim, because I told them I took the the bumper off the car to self diagnose the issue. I told them what the hell does that have to do with foglight wiring? All they said was that Honda is "super strict" on warranty claims, and that I could have put something on wrong. I told the the advisor that it's simple to take a bumper off a car.

They didn't tell me all of this until the car was done, and that they had to "eat the cost." I told them that it must've not been a big deal since you waited until the car was done before you told me. Then I proceeded to say that the last last thing I wanted to do on my only day off was spend five hours at a dealership.

Drove an Accord Hybrid because I was curious... Surprisingly, I really liked it, and I'm pretty anti hybrid. The Sport 6MT was a nice drive too.

I'll probably get my car serviced at another dealer from here on out. I do my oil changes, but I'll find another dealer to have the important stuff done.

37k now.

May will be two years with the car..

What's next?

When the time come to replace, I may go slightly used.. Seeing how fast new cars depreciate and how much I drive, this thing isn't worth anything.

I found a super clean '10 G37S sedan 6MT with 25k miles for 21 thousand. I'd be half tempted to get it if I wasn't in the red with the civic.

I just drove a 2011 RWD FX35 with the intention of talking the fiancée into it.

She wants a new(er) car.. And decided that she wants a new gen Avalon

I liked the FX a lot. If I owed a little less on the Civic, I would've came home with it for me

Hey,

I'll join you on the civic. I had to trade in the 07 RDX (10/15/2014) because of my commutes and gas was a killer - after that weekend, gas prices were declining... and has been, but cheap gas prices are still nice, and a fill-up is around $30 (can't remember ).

My question is: how the heck do you maintain that 40+MPG rating? Under my best slow driving on my daily commute, I can only achieve 31-32MPG, with about 50 miles of highway, and maybe 10 miles streets. If I were to cruise down the 5, I could probably achieve this...

It's a slow transition but I think I gotten use to it. It's peppy, efficient and very slow. The CVT isn't as bad as I thought it would have been.

Any who, thought I chime in.

I haven't had any problems yet, except for noticing that the radio LED blinks on and off.

I get 40+ on my 150 mile drive to the coast( all highway)Speed limit for the first half of the drive is 55, then 65 the second. Then I usually deal with traffic. Best I've done the past month 38mpg.

I wondered how the CVT was.. Mine still has the 5AT

It's not set in stone. I told she doesn't need a full sized car. She just likes the way they look. If the FX is still at BMW on Friday, then she may come down and buy it.

She's afraid of stepping into a premium brand, but I told her it's less than keeping a CLA or 3-series.

Cool, I'll try limiting my speeds and see how that goes on our next road trip...the CVT isn't as bad. In fact, it's fairly smooth. Mashing on it is obviously strange feeling, like a worn clutch - otherwise, it's a great commuter.

If I average 65 90% of the drive, and not mash it to keep my speed up going through the hills, I can get close to 40mpg, if not more.

The 45mpg I got a while back was within the first third of my drive. (No hills)

Happy wife happy life The Avalon is pretty good at what it does, and if you guys ever decide to have kids, you can use it as an excuse to get something small and sporty.

Lol we already said no kids. I have a bet with my uncle.. He had a van when he was my age, so he said that if I get a van before I'm 40, then I owe him 100, and vise versa.

I told him that he might as well pay up now

I drive 28k miles a year. My situaiton is very similar to you.

After driving fast dd for a long time (still have toys that I don't DD), I decided I needed fuel sipper. Sold my Celestial Blue 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 (shouldn't have sold it), Picked up a new 2013 CT200h. Was getting amazing MPG.

However, I couldn't bear to drive the soul crushing car anymore. If it gave me 100MPG I couldn't care less.

As someone said, spending so much time in the car, it was just horrible.

So I test drove new Accord Sport, Civic Si, WRX and ended up getting a TSX Wagon. It isn't manual as I wanted, but it has the space I needed. I bought it CPO. I am hoping to try to keep it a while.

As someone said smiles per gallon. I bet if I bought a manual civic body style like yours, I would still keep it, unlike the Lexus which I dumped.

Though the TSX isn't fast or manual (both), it ticks enough boxes, plus my DD standard was so low with the CT, I feel like I am driving a HellCat everytime I press the gas

I want something more "bike friendly." It sucks throwing a mountain bike in the back of a civic

Yes, I know I could easily buy a bike rack, but I miss the versatility of something with a hatch, whether it's an SUV, wagon, or crossover.
