Project Supra
I've made a few comments the past year or so regarding a project for the Supra that has been in the works for the last five/six years. I've been incredibly lazy and work was crazy the last couple of years and I never really had the time or motivation. For whatever reason (probably because the TL has 258k miles on it) I decided to get another car ready for shared daily driving duty.
I've started taking pictures to document the progress...I'm well aware of what happens if a thread is started without pictures. I'm not a photographer and I'm using an iphone so the pictures are probably crap but I'll try to make them look somewhat nice as this progresses.
It's dirty here...
After a brief wash (couldn't find clay bar so that's up next). For all of the concerned CA residents - minimal water was used
Different post-wash shot. Hood is not closed...
I know, I know, an automatic. Deal with it. Interior was a little worn.
Pulled the seats out to clean/condition as well as make sure the carpet hadn't developed any weird growths over the last few years.
Finally - what I'm excited about
I don't really have a plan. I'm starting with just cleaning everything up. Today was the interior. Next will be engine bay and getting rid of the normal dirt/grime build up.
The wheels look like crap - the center caps faded and it looks better with them off (still look like shit). However, I don't want to drop 1k on a set of wheels/tires until I get the motor upgraded.
I'm open for suggestions on the direction I should take. As I mentioned, this will likely share the daily driving duties with the TL (on days when I don't bike to work I'm driving 120/day). I drive around 25k/year and would likely put around 8k/year on this. The car has 114k on it right now.
Let's go.

Safety Car
If you are going to plastidip the wheels, I recommend removing them from the car. The plastidip overspray that gets on your body will be a nightmare to remove if you ever want to do a deep detail of your car. Plastidip doesn't just peel easily off car clear coat.

Please no black wheels! I would want it to look like it just rolled out of the showroom

I like the gunmetal. That's a start. Most of the used OEM wheels I've found don't have the center caps so that doesn't help.
Hoping to get the exhaust squared away next week.

Schweet! Can't wait to see the progress. I know it's not stock looking, but what about black housing the headlights?

On cars like Supra, I would say, Restoration > modifying
Maybe because i have been watching too much Mecum auctions. But i have a thing for old cars looking like new right now.

I'm still not sure the direction I want to go with this. Its been sitting for a while and I haven't had much time to dedicate to it. Figured I would stop being lazy. Likely will do a BPU and clean up the engine bay.
I like the input I've received so far and look forward to future suggestions, comments, advice, etc.

Nothing major yet. Pulled off the hood, wipers, random plastic, etc to clean up everything. Work has been busy so I haven't has much time to do anything exciting. The optima now won't hold a charge so a new battery is on the list.

Not sure what your level of attachment is/will be to the car, but I think a resto-mod direction wouldn't be bad to consider. In that I mean, try to restore as much as possible and then some bolt-on/revertible mods in which you could turn it back to stock in case a resale opportunity presents itself. Reasoning behind this is simply that we all know the value of these will likely incrementally increase (NSX) and I think the 90's JDM cars are next up to see 911/E30 M3 price spikes that we've been witnessing over the past few years. Not to mention how hard it already is to find a clean example.

Ordered more parts today. The horn stopped working so that's something to investigate. Battery, boost controller, boost gauge, tires, and exhaust should be coming this week. I'm hoping to try and get everything hooked up next weekend.

I would restore it to show room condition and just stare at it all day.

Tires are on it so I can actually push the car instead of rolling around on 10 year old rubber.
Boost gauge was installed but it got dark so I didn't hook up the vacuum line yet. Still waiting on the exhaust (both the smog version and then the normal exhaust). I will have pictures of the boost gauge (not exciting whatsoever but might as well document progress) soon.
I probably won't get to it much this weekend since I'm going to be out most of Saturday. Depends on what else is delivered.

Don't know if you want to do this just yet, but "in the name of progress" you could buff out the oxidation in the head light lenses. I don't endorse any particular product. I've found that cleaner wax, regular wax, polish, time, patience, and elbow grease gets the job done.
Edit: You're sitting on a modern day desirable, to be expensive collectible car.
